Problem for Brendan really is we recruited for 4-3-3 and we look awful playing it no matter how much he tries.

Did you? Where are the wingers?

Like others, surprised at the speed of the sacking. Wonder where Rodgers will end up? His backroom staff have gone as well.

Question for the Liverpool fans - which team did you enjoy watching the most: the team under Rodgers which came 2nd in 2013/14 or the team which came 2nd under Rafa in 2008/09?

Next Liverpool Manager (Coral)

Jurgen Klopp 1-2f

Carlo Ancelotti 5-2

Frank De Boer 12-1

Ronald Koeman 20-1

Andre Villas-Boas 20-1

Jurgen Klinsmann 20-1

Garry Monk 25-1

Pako Ayestaran 25-1

Gary McAllister 33-1

Sean O'Driscoll 33-1

Between Klopp and Ancelotti for the job then.

What wingers are available? 4-3-3 is his favourite formation. He buckled it and went to 3-5-2, which I am fine with as a formation except we don't have a RWB and Can is not a centre back.

The team that came 2nd under Rodgers. Some of that football was breathtaking. Under Rafa we were just a machine, undoubtedly that was our best team for the past 20 years, but in terms of entertainment the 13/14 season was better.

Rumours going round at the moment - apparently the decision to sack Rodgers was made after the Man Utd game. Would be happy with either Klopp or Ancelotti. Think Klopp is the better fit however.

The only one that springs to mind is Gervinho, but isn't that the point of a recruitment team?

Yes but how many teams play with traditional wingers these days? Any top team has a maximum of one playing, because they are generally one trick ponies.

A statement from Chelsea backing Mourinho:

The club wants to make it clear that Jose continues to have our full support," it says.

"As Jose has said himself, results have not been good enough and the team's performances must improve. However, we believe that we have the right manager to turn this season around and that he has the squad with which to do it."

That's either the kiss of life.. or the kiss of death!! Can't see Mourinho going just yet, I think he's earned some leeway, and it would be absolutely stupid this early in the season no matter how poor they look.

Gonna say it now, if Liverpool don't get Klopp I'm going to be mighty disappointed.

If Klopp gets the job, which paper will be the first to use the headline "Mop-top Klopp Kop Flop"?

Try saying that three times quickly

Maybe not traditional wingers, but wide players are still important and no one in your squad seems to want to play there. 4-3-3 is about the last formation that works.

The puns are endless. It will be funny seeing everyone's reaction to when we score a last minute winner (if that ever happens!!).

Exactly, and it's why it was baffling Rodgers chose it. 4-2-3-1 suits out team better, bar the central midfield, which is probably the most important part.

That Wayne Rooney documentary on BBC 1 was very entertaining and it was nice to see how he is with his family off the pitch as well. I'm looking forward to watching Sir Alex Ferguson's documentary on Sunday night as well.

Rodgers brought me some of the best times as a Liverpool fan. 13/14 easily outshines 08/09 in terms of entertainment

However, I do think he had lost his way and the time was right for him to go. We've always been pretty poor defensively under him, so I wouldn't expect us to suddenly improve in that area. Our lack of attacking threat was the concern though. Against Carlisle for example we looked clueless and unable to break down a league 2 side during 120+ minutes of football with Coutinho, Lallana etc. on the pitch.

It also wasn't exactly encouraging to see Rodgers abandon his preferred formation just a handful of games into the season. Can't have had much faith in it?

Klopp seems to be the likely next manager if all goes to plan. Excited to see what he can get out of this group of players as I do think we've got a good squad with a lot of potential. The fans could do with a lift too.

& a little mention for Sean O'Driscoll and Gary McAllister (assuming he's gone), who I'm sure would have expected to be in a job for more than 3-4 months.

I've seen, I think, where Kloop will be announced this Friday as the new Liverpool manager....

Seems to be the spin all the big hitters are going with. Not gonna lie I'll be devastated if this doesn't happen now!

Can see why Brendan got the cop - think you'd be hard pressed to find any fanbase in England that would not want Klopp as their manager, maybe discounting Chelsea fans.

How about this bit of speculation.....Brendan Rogers going to Sunderland....

He just might be the spark they need to put some wins on the table....

According to MSN Sport Sunderland have approached former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson for the manager's job. He wont be able to keep them up (no one will) but at least their performances would improve under him.

No chance. I think Rodgers will probably do a Moyes/McLaren and go abroad for his next job.

Agree about Allardyce, he would be a shoe-in for Sunderland if he wasn't at Newcastle previously. Not sure he would be a popular appointment, but unlike Pearson, I would actually expect him to keep Sunderland in the division.
