Yeah, I don't think Thunder was ever going to do much in America. The market is just too big, and she's not relevant there enough. Thunder is a nice song but it's not going to grab much attention. She should have focused more time and effort on the UK where she is much more of a name.

I agree. The most she could have hoped for was a minor hit. With big promo in the UK, another top 10 would be possible.

But UK commercial radio isn't playing any of her material and if she can get a hit in the US then it'll likely be beneficial to her in the UK as well. Not to mention it takes a lot of time for songs to build in the US sometimes. I just hope her label have a good plan, especially as she's been signed to Def Jam - so they can't just ignore the US. She has quite a lot of promotion coming up in the US too, so I'm hopeful things will pick up there in the next few weeks or so.
I was just reading an article about how Top 40 radio works in the US - including things like payola - and I've realized it's not as simple as we are discussing it. Not remotely. Songs get tested for how well they may play to a particular demo and maybe Thunder is not coming out strong for Pop Radio. I don't see how when there are songs like it on the format, but maybe that's why it hasn't been sent yet. Also, radio just doesn't help break new/'returning' artistes as much anymore. TV - chat show performances - are more helpful in a market like US, so its vital that the song that tests the best for the viewership of a particular show is performed. Fact is, we don't what this song could be...whether its YKMW, Thunder, I Got You or FUMF. If Def Jam have been testing with a focus group, then they should know. If its YKNW, then they should just do a video like the one for the Kanye cover, post it on youtube, then perform it on their TV slots.

More than likely it's not been sent to pop radio yet.

That they are focusing on adult contemporary isn't strange though - it's probably the format where Leona has the greatest chance at some success. I don't see it being huge in the US.

Decent update on HAC today including a nice gain in audience. Hopefully it'll start picking up a bit and get a decent amount of adds tomorrow.

Nice to see it picking up again on HAC. 75 stations are now spinning the song (up 4 from yesterday). Hopefully it'll continue to have good updates this week. It should rise to #26/#25 this week as two songs ahead of it are falling.

Still gaining alright on HAC, with good audience gain. I really hope it picks up a bit more on HAC with the album coming out on Friday.

I hope that's just a blip on HAC. It still gained a little audience and also gained decently today on AC. Hopefully "Thunder" will pick up more, if not I hope they move on fast to the next single.

Hopefully with the album release and upcoming promotion, it'll help breathe new life into "Thunder". It's been rising back up on iTunes with the release of the album - now #647 and rising.

#383 on US iTunes now and it continues to rise! :o Lots of pop stations tweeting about Leona today as well. Def Jam really need to send "Thunder" to Top 40 asap to keep building hype/momentum.

Looks like things are picking up again on HAC. Hopefully Def Jam will get a move on with sending "Thunder" to Top 40 radio as it's now #271 on iTunes. With upcoming promotion it should rise more, especially after her performance on Ellen this coming Friday.

Leona tweeted about her GMA performance tomorrow, which we knew, but she also tweeted this,

Another performance with @ElvisDuranShow tomorrow!

Great spot getting on that show, Z100 is big. Hopefully that signals that pop radio adds are just around the corner.

Great performance. I think the production helped here but there just seemed to be a lot more energy with this performance from Leona and the band. Came across really well. Let's hope it equates to some sales!
Definitely!

Up to #157 on US iTunes too, is that a peak so far?

More radio station visits needed!!

The sales boost didn't last long. It's already dropping. Now down to #169.Needs to get top 40 radio support for this or any song to stay steady or rise on itunes.
