Blame big finance for that!

Big finance may have *caused* the 2008 crash, but gov't action in individual countries will have effected how hard it hit.

No gov't, of whatever colour, should be blamed for some people's poor ability to prioritize.

If you don't want your children to go short *don't blow your dole money on cigs/drink/drugs*.

Wow.

This is a pretty low and sweeping generalization, even by your standards.

Hang on, I thought we were talking about a specific subset of those in poverty, rather than all of them?

Right and Labour mitigated it before the Tories got in and smashed the economy with their smash and grab for the rich disco citizens.

Right and Labour mitigated it befoee the Tories got in and smashed the economy eith their smash and grab for the disco citizens rich.

Haven't you realised yet that 'landed-gentry' gets automatically changed to 'disco citizens'?

Haven't you realised yet that the Tories exist only to make the rich richer and protect the disco citizens at the expense of the poor and the working class?

Black Wednesday - Tory

Doubled national debt - Tory

Borrowed more in 10 years (to give to the rich) than every Labour government ever combined - Tory

Presided over the slowest recovering economy in history - Tory

Presided over the worst performing modern economy - Tory

Presided over the worst performing currency in the world - Tory

Facts speak for me.

No gov't, of whatever colour, should be blamed for some people's poor ability to prioritize.

If you don't want your children to go short *don't blow your dole money on cigs/drink/drugs*. Giving such financially incompetent people more money, as Labour aspires to do, will just result in even higher levels of frittering away. Only if you *earn* your money do you learn the value of it.

Do you have any idea how muchdole money is?? The ignorance.

Yes, £73 a week for Job-Seekers alllowance. More for a couple and children.

+ housing benefit (or whatever its called now), etc.

This is true.

The Australians hit the stimulus packages hard and their economy came through the storm without a recession and are now talking about a return to surplus.

We came off the surplus before the packages had run their course and like coming off antibiotics before you finish the package we got absolutely spanked by austerity, barely avoided a triple dip recession and are stuck with an anemic economy, on lower wages than before 2008 and our public services have been absolutely f***ing gutted by a heartless Tory-LibDem administration hellbent on ideological class warfare

The simple fact is that austerity is not now and was not at any point in the past decade the answer to our problems. The Brown/Darling plan was working. Austerity derailed it and has lead to countless billions more in unnecessary government debt

Pork market lady Lizz Truss made a tit of herself today when being interviewed by Andrew Neil. She was hoping to tear apart Labours pledge to undertake the biggest housing project since World War 2. When asked how the Tories 2015 pledge to build 200,000 starter homes was coming along, cheese woman said she didn't have the exact numbers to hand. Luckily for her, he did, and that number was 0.

No, that's not a typo.

These are the people running our country.

You need to remember that a large proportion of people in poverty are IN work.

What makes you think I didn't know that?

+ housing benefit (or whatever its called now), etc.

Yes they get all or most of their rent paid but people in work can get HB too if on a low income. In fact I believe that more people actually in work are claiming Housing Benefit. Also free prescriptions and dental treatment if on JSA.

The ESA Work Related Activity Group is the same amount as JSA as far as I know and means-tested like JSA but ESA Support Group is a lot more and not means-tested.

Edited by common sense

It's interesting that, after being thrust in our faces over the past 18 months, Rees-Mogg has seemingly been ordered to hide away during the election campaign.

Definitely was told to keep a low profile after those Grenfell comments.

Though this doesn’t stop them wheeling Cleverly out to defend their latest technological flout of electoral law each time.
