Nadine Dorries - culture secretary. Would say it gets worse but the further she is away from health the better.

I like Liz. She's honest, has done her previous jobs very well and is quite popular in my party. Could be next Home Secretary.

Why am I not surprised by any of this?

I don’t care if she’s a centre right or far right she’s a complete moron. That’s my concern. She can’t string a sentence together

Which just proves really that right wingers all share one communal brain cell

 A firm point well made!

???

Delusional

The only thing that’s true here is that she’s, quite inexplicably, popular among Tories. The rest (in the middle sentence) is just a giant lie from start to finish

How has she done well? As for honesty, she is just as big a liar as the rest of the Cabinet.

At least Liz Truss is no longer the dimmest member of the Cabinet.

I generally find with these Tory supporters either the truth doesn't matter to them, or they blindly believe every word that comes out of their mouths.

(Given how he swallows everything Boris Johnson says and takes it as gospel truth unquestionably, I'm tempted to say it's probably the latter)

She can't speak to people though

Glad that Badenoch or Dowden didnt get education and on paper Zahawi is better than William's but everything else today poor especially Dorries (where I was a bit too dismissive earlier about it only being culture secretary). Truss even better placed to take on Johnson. Could be an interesting battle between her and Sunak.

We needed a Foreign Secretary with a brain after Raab and Truss isn't it. Beyond that... Dorries is a laughable appointment, we don't need a culture war secretary. Patel needed to go but despite her horrificness she's doing the job the government want so I don't suppose she was really in danger. Coffey and Eustice could have also done with moving/sacking, terrible for their jobs. Raab should have been sacked completely, very concerned about the damage he could do at Justice, even better placed to work in tandem with Patel there.

Zahawi and Gove aren't completely terrible appointments/moves given they're all Tories - those two are two of the more competent ones (and yes, saying that about Gove is telling) - I also look forward very much for the opportunity for both to disgrace themselves in reasonably tough positions.

I can't think this'll change much about the government going forward, it's still very much the same Johnson project, just a few of the key players moved around a bit. It got the usual journalistic flurry but the focus will soon be returned to the Universal Credit cut I imagine.

Are you rich? No. Are you the lqnded gentry? No. Are you part of the aristocracy? No. Then it ISN'T your party. You aren't invited. By the way, your precious haunted Victorian relic, Reece Smogg, twll, as his Welsh t shirt says, calls you a "plant pot". Why do you slavishly lick the Tories' boots when they say things like that? They are the party of Upstairs-Downstairs, of taxing the poor, of protecting their wealth and keeping "their" power. They aren't YOUR party. This isn't football. They don't represent you.

To be honest Michael and the rest of you, I don't worship them otherwise I'd join the party. I just think they're the lesser of two evils and are best for the country at present. Labour's turn will come again. It goes in cycles.

A party of rich, corrupt liars is best for the country??

See, if I were one of these people who claim to be independent, floating voters, I'd be very worried at one of the parties doing the democratic overreach that the Tories are currently doing, to say nothing of shoving the poor into further poverty and raising taxes on people who were working.

it ain't a cycle if one party rules the majority of the time and the other has to sell out its principles to get a turn (and apparently, now, not even doing that would work)

The Tories are completely the wrong government which we need at this moment when we have a ticking time bomb about Climate Emergency, horrendous inequality (with the gap between rich and poor growing every day) and major problems with public funding been cut left, right and centre.

That’s the problem with British politics it does go in cycles!

General election in 2023?

This news appears to have got buried in the talk about the reshuffle - the government are to introduce First Past the Post in elections for Police & Crime Commissioners, metro mayors, and most notably, for the Mayor of London elections.

It wouldn’t have made a difference in previous Mayor of London elections, although could make a difference in future ones if they are particularly tight.
