I actually quite like Break Up Every Night as it has a faster beat and is vibrant throughout. The rest of the songs are slow and dull in comparison imo.

The reason The Chainsmokers get so much 'hate' is because of Selfie. A lot of people could not take them seriously and it definitely affected their credibility. For what it's worth I think they make incredibly catchy pop songs. Another reason why they get a hard time is because they're two really rich white kids. A lot of people don't like them for that very reason.

They are supposed to be dance though, not pop, but yes a lot of their stuff sounds more pop, rather like Martin Garrix's two recent singles.

I don't really mind Selfie and I don't care about their background, I care that their music is incredibly dull  That's why I hate them. I just think their music is so basic, formulaic and boring, and as I've said his voice is absolutely horrendous.

I do agree with most of what Liam said. I'm a big fan of 'Roses' and 'Don't Let Me Down' and a minor fan of 'Closer' initally but that's been killed to death. Where they went wrong is where Drew started to sing, he literally has the worst and flattest voice in music chart history. The production has also become more and more watered down too.

The reason why they're doing so well is that they're getting the melodys spot on, both the verses and the chorus and full of melody. But my problem is, its now become such a basic melody that's verging on each song being like a Nursey Rhyme.

The One is one of those songs where I honestly can't believe it's enjoyable to anyone. I just can't

Most of that song is dull imo and sounds like a Gary Barlow album track , but I like from 1:46 to 2:43 in the Spotify track with the trancey sounding synths, if only that would have been more in the rest of the song.

Well they don't have to stay in the dance genre just because they started that way. :P

They certainly seem to be a pop act now anyway, not that I've listened to the album but the two singles are more pop than dance.

Also I think people have largely forgotten Selfie, more people would associate The Chainsmokers with Closer, which itself got a lot of hate for being basic and overexposed.

Electronic dance music is mostly dead now in the American charts, so its probably a reaction to that that they have gone more poppy.

i don't think anyone is really mad at them making chilled out songs, it's just its getting lazier the more and more the genre is saturated

take this for instance

INCREDIBLY charming, but not a complete far cry from what they're doing - it's just executed so much better and has so much more to it - a lot of it is to do with the vocals! drew is a complete charisma vacuum.

My only concern with them is that their songs are average at best. Of course that's a personal opinion, but I've never really got what made them so popular, I don't even find their songs that catchy and I'm usually here for chill music.

You break my heart by reminding me of this song. It's hard to deny that the vocals steal most of the fun the album could have potentially offered.

Omg Lew I rememebr when you had a Chainsmokers thread and it seemed like they were such a new exciting name in music, seeing that remix reminded me of that, it's sad to think you fast forward and THIS is what they're putting out :drama: That must have been a fluke
I do agree that the album could be SO much better with less vocals from Drew - but I really don't think he's that bad as a singer. Not the best admittedly but I know a hell of a lot of people that loads of others WORSHIP that I find awful.
I think its not just the vocals imo, the production is just dull, some of the drops are good but its the whole dull buildup that I don't like.
Listened full album on weekend couple times. On my taste good 2 songs - My Type and It Won't Kill Ya. Others I don`t even remember.

Something Just Like This (Remixes)

OUT April 28th

1. Alesso remix

2. Don Diablo remix

3. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike remix

4. Jai Wolf remix

5. R3hab remix

Just to weigh in, as a longtime dance/EDM fan, I don't think Chainsmokers are hugely creative or original with the music they're making right now...

...but I also don't think that matters. Someone's thrown them a rope and said if they keep making accessible crossover pop, they'll be the next big thing, and so they're making the kind of music people want from them. If I had those skills and that kind of demand, I'd do the same.

Also, the Jhene Aiko track on the album is excellent; but a lot of that is down to her. There's a real honesty to everything she sings, which comes across really strong on a track like this.

I'm pretty sure they're self-aware, given they started off with a highly taking-the-p song like SELFIE.
