September 23, 200619 yr Scissors is a term for a lesbian sexual position. http://www.slangcity.com/ask_ac_archive/scissor_sisters.htm Well, that puts the Scissor Sisters forum under a new light. Glad to see the forum there though. Only wish there was a Kate Bush forum. Oh well, you can't have everything I spose.

September 23, 200619 yr Their 2004-released eponymous debut album is also poised to re-enter the top 20 thanks to the media buzz around Ta-Dah. It's the only thing that gets people buying records these days, without the media buzz you won't sell, or just have tons of modest selling albums........... Sad but true. So Scissor Sisters is something sexual-releated then?. Erm... That "media buzz" around albums is because they're good? And so someone will think it's good and tell someone else about and other people will hear it on the radio and so on.. the first album sold so well because it was a great album and people bought it because they liked what they had heard and they heard it was a good album.
September 23, 200619 yr lily allen, sandi thom, arctic monkeys... you have to have pretty good word of mouth to get noticed by most people anyway, very rarely do you see a new british act with a massive amount of publicity behind them, usually they build in popularity through word of mouth. only american acts usually start off with a blitz of publicity, or pop acts. any indie kinda acts need to impress the fans first.
September 23, 200619 yr Lily Allen? Of course, having famous parents and slagging people off to seek publicity didn't help at all did it.
September 23, 200619 yr no, that kinda thing doesnt mean you're gonna sell records, having a good album does and catchy songs does. anyway, my point was that she was found on the internet first and got word of mouth behind her, before her songs were successful.
September 23, 200619 yr I'm not believing that, she's had practically blanket coverage before and since 'Smile' and was even billed as "Keith Allen's daughter" in various places.
September 23, 200619 yr yea, but didn't she have something like a million hits on her myspace website before she started gaining any real amount of attention from the media? i know a couple of people who were really into her stuff before i'd even heard about her. September 24, 200619 yr Lilly had excellent word of mouth, which was how I got to hear about her. Granted, some of that was because she was considered 'cool', but without all the positive and negative hype her music is good. However, to transfer her to the mass market has required a hell of a push from her label, who presumably also encouraged all the right journalists to find her MySpace page etc.
