People form 'freindships' based upon similar tastes and personalities, it's always likely that we'll all be drawn towards the entries of those that we tend to agree with and get along with the most. I mean, I'm always conscious that I have rarely (or possibly never?!!) voted for Bellamia and every contest I listen in hope that this will be the one... but then I hear it and think 'NAH'! :D It's not a reflection of bias or anything, I like Joseph as a poster and can see what he does for the forum but out tastes are often just poles apart - I wouldn't ever to expect to be giving them points in the same frequency as some of the more indie/alt nations like Aeroche, PRoJ, NDNTN, Persephonia etc and nor would I expect them to be giving me points all the time for exactly the same reasoning.

Your loss that you can't see the amazingness of my entries :coffee:

Seriously though, it's absolutely right, I always kinda expect to like an entry from Ramrynia for example more than one of N DNTN, purely because my taste matches up well with Ryan's a lot of the time (shame this doesn't extend to TV presenters, poor Emma Willis) whereas 152chris and I seem to have very little in common (although I liked your song this month x). It's nothing to do with posters, just whose taste corresponds with whose.

Oh and there's no doubt that the points were changed without Joe's knowledge :heehee: I think Joe's felt bad enough already tbh and that's punishment enough.

I agree with this. I expect to like entries from certain countries and I hope I can vote for countries that I don't usually vote for like Unovia or Bellamia. There has been the odd occasion for example where I absolutely love what Joseph sends.

It's funny cause our tastes seem to correlate quite well going by our personal charts, but it's rare that we actually vote for each other in this

yes, all of the above comments are true for me too. I have preconceived expectations of a good 15 or 20 nations that I expect to be impressed by, and usually am, which is why I like the mp3 packs as I can edit out the names and just listen to the tracks without bias just in case I'm assuming one poor soul is going to be errr challenging, unfairly.

I'm so fair :puke2:

But in all honesty, I am probably guilty of friend bias in this. I mean it's not deliberate, but I listen to their potentials before the contest so they have longer to grow from the outset and I hear them a lot more. Plus, as has been said, friendships on here are often based on shared musical taste so it definitely all adds up.
See I purposefully don't listen to my opposite semi so it all feels fresh in The Final. Like I think if I listen to the opposite semi the final I'm more likely to points people from that semi rather than sticking to what I've already heard. Idk if that makes sense to any of you but it does to me.
I do agree that I think most (very much including myself), or those that have been in the contest for a while, are somewhat likely to have countries they vote for regularly and so when they hear a song from them they think 'ooh this country has generally great taste, so I'm looking forward to this' and may give their songs more time/chance to grow than countries they very rarely vote for, ofc. a great song is a great song whoever sent it, but this is just a subconscious thing that can't really be changed. I do somewhat prefer the voting system of Unknown Pleasures where you don't know who anyone is when voting, though I don't think that would work as well over here.

Yes. I've just added that one on for you. ^_^

aww thank-you! that was very prompt :)

I confess to paying more attention to songs which have trusted labels like 'Persephonia' and 'Aeroche' next to them rather than countries I've never heard of with uninspired-sounding names and boring artist names to boot. You don't have much to go off before hearing a song in BJSC (or any song at all) so it's normal to judge from small details like that.

Unless you wanna make it anonymous then I don't think there's a way round it.

I just put them all in my own playlist, copy and paste the document into Word and start rating & ranking them. That way, whilst I'm listening, I'm unaware of who sent what and if I like it, I like it! No matter who the country is. I don't take notice of particular countries just coz it's certain countries or whatever, am I expected to prefer Rontvia's entry over NDNTN's? Of course, but it doesn't always work out that way.

yeh I confess to taking more notice of countries with names I remember / like the sound of lol. + ur always gonna give friends songs more attention / like them more due to similar tastes - I know that when songs are revealed I listen to particular countries' first just to see what they've sent knowing in the past I've usually enjoyed their entries. I don't think it effects much overall tho cos at the end of the day / end of listening to all the entries if you like a song you like a song and I don't reckon anyone's rly that staunchly loyal for the lesser good to just vote for friends regardless eg. I pretty much always vote for chris it seems but thought his song was shit this contest (srysry✌🏻️) so didn't get any of me precious points

Titles are often more important for me than countries I find. Bland titles with bland artist names (a given name that screams 'basic pop' or a common one-word band name) really suffer with me a lot of the time unless they can instantly hit me. I think that's because as far as taste goes, ignoring my propensity to rock, I'm placed somewhere in the happy medium between Bellamia and N DNTN so I can like things from both sides. Sometimes I vote for very few of my friends, sometimes they fill out my top points.

Of course, that's not to say it doesn't exist with me, it certainly does, and I'd love it to not so I could make everything absolutely equitable and give everyone an equal chance with me but there are definitely small effects that I try to combat by giving every song an equal chance as much as I can and trying not to take notice of country names.

Iz I'm coming for your points this month *.*
i always thought i was a bit predictable with votes but i've realised that i've given my maximum score to a different country each contest this year, so it shows that the best songs r the best no matter who

all of this throws so much into doubt so much. can any lounge mods confirm how the rate was added up, how do we know no tampering occurred during this? i think pressure has been applied in the past also as some quite interesting results have occurred. as i always say, in life you HAVE to be your own person. never let somebody else dictate what you think or feel because what do you have otherwise?

i full expect lee will lose his lounge mod position now? because a. with every crime there should be a punishment and b. how can anybody ever trust him again especially as he's taken no ownership and sort of laughed everything off with my remorse and instead laughing at everyone in a manner of speaking?

Is Lee actually ok? Because this behaviour's a bit...sad really.

His popularity contest PMs are the stuff of legend too, so this really brings other things into doubt as well.
