Am I right in saying the only OA/OS releases that got to #1 are One Direction and Justin Bieber? That's very indicative if true, but I bet I'm missing something.

KDA and Diplo are the ones I want to see do well this week. Great to see Shakka/JME on the rise too! Such a boss song.

My House is growing on me too. Sounds like a Macklemore song rather than a Flo Rida one, but it's good to see him move away from the tired dance-pop formula.

That would be correct if we ignore the likes of X Factor winning singles I think :heehee: Sam Smith's Lay Me Down featuring John Legend could also count I guess but I consider it a separate case.

And 'Writing's On The Wall', plus there must be others too I'm thinking

Says it all when that was only 2 weeks ago but has already slipped my mind :kink:

I can't remember who said they predicted 'Second Hand Heart' would have a chart run similar to Olly Murs' 'Up' but oddly enough they sound quite similar too!

Wiz Khalifa 'See You Again' ;)

plus LMFAO (2011), Pitbull (2011), Gotye (2012), PSY (2012), Daft Punk (2013) & Pharrell Williams (2014) from previous years... :)

I only heard KDA for the first time a few days ago but it's SO GOOD. Such an earworm, really hope that can make #1 but I don't imagine its streaming will be up to much.

Don't they mean OA/OS releases that debuted at No.1?

'Twas me that said I expect a similar chart run to Up for Ben and Kelly, it was so obvious that it was going to be modelled on that song without even hearing it.

Oh yeah there are numerous OA/OS releases that made #1 but I took it as meaning a debut at #1 :heehee:
I was expecting a note for note copy of 'Style' based on what people were saying about 1D, and for it to at least have that "new wave" sound Style, Cheyenne and Your Type etc have, but there are only vague similarities at the most. I don't get it.

That's what I took it to mean too, otherwise there are many examples!

Okay, Aly's comments have given me more hope for the One Direction song now I know they haven't gone for the coma-inducing new wave sound.

They're not as similar as that, just when I heard it on the radio, I couldn't stop think of 'Style' because the melody matches pretty well.

With See You Again, I had heard it a bit before it was released and it was already massive in America. I was thinking of songs that were premiered/released on the same day and got to #1 straight away!

My point being, that almost every #1 this year has been a held-back release, even with the OA/OS push. This links back to the whole Peak vs. Sales debate and I still think labels find it easier to promote peaks over sales.

You could also look back to last year. How many 2014 #1s would have also been chart toppers in 2015 under the different release climates? I'd suggest less than half.

oh, ok. just daft punk who shot to #1 on iTunes the day it premiered (although 'get lucky' was released on a friday so only entered at #3 officially).

with the speed at which download sales are collapsing, it won't be long before held-back releases consistently miss the top spot as streaming dominates~

22. Little Mix - Love Me Like You

Hmm... no 'Lightning'? I guess it's album only from the LMLY: The Collection EP then!

Well, it was in Thermo's Game you know. :kink:

Take That up to #27

Delighted with this movement. That said, they need to keep climbing as streaming will be disastrous for them i would assume.

Yes it was. The hand of Cowell. If something is successful replicate it.
