Yeah but in the past, songs that were played/promoted n the X Factor used to shoot up the sales chart, so that is another example of songs being 'spoonfed'

 

The songs have different play counts so there must be some people choosing to listen to them.

It's still different though because you have to actual BUY the track. But there is a point to be made for what you say about being spoon fed but the chart has always reflected broad moderate opinion as that's what it is lol it's not meant to be individual taste unless something comes from underground and blows up in the mainstream - a bit like say Firestarter by The Prodigy if you get what I mean.

 

Streams had to be added eventually as it is still the best if imperfect way of highlighting what is most popular with the public at a specific point in time even if it is hard to transfer streaming into actual sales.

 

Finally it has also led to there being the proper introduction of OAOS which I believe helps to mid the best songs peak highest and makes the chart fairer in the long run.
