How does it hold up today?

 

 

A song I’d discovered years prior, I thought it apt to send it to the first contest I’d end up autoqualifying for but I likely needn’t have worried about its chances of going through the semis anyhow as it was another top 10. One of the few really great cheesy high tempo Eurodance tracks of that time and already had got some notoriety online but wasn’t known to most of the Buzzjack audience. Alan Walker would end up sampling it for ‘Play’.

The winner of that contest I’d hosted and to be honest the track that holds up the best from this bunch as well, a great dance tune that had chart hit potential but nothing became of it.

How does it hold up today?

 

 

One of the very best dancepop tracks I ever found for the contest, a track I’d held back on sending two months prior as ‘Saving Light’ was more of an obvious hit though this still did reasonably well for itself. The sax break works really well here and it’s a track that has held up very well from its era, having a bit more life to it than a lot of the hit chasing dance tracks.

How does it hold up today?

 

 

Perhaps not a vintage Danaeviia entry but this stood out to me as a synthpop track and I thought I’d go something a little bit different. It is very good anyhow even if not quite so much as my first 4 entries of the year which were all top-tier. It has a real punch to it in the production.

How does it hold up today?

 

 

A great taste of Summer here back in the peak tropical house era and one of the tracks that has aged the best from the time for me also. Helped of course from taking the melody of the trance classic 'On The Move'. It's a song that deserved a lot better than it got but was perhaps too pedestrian sounding for some. This is the best kind of generic summer fun though.

One of the best straight-up dancepop songs I ever did send, and partly the reason I don't often go for these types of songs anymore is well I've already sent a lot of the very best back in the day and dancepop songs this good are hard to come by now. Deserves to go down as a Danævii classic and I'm pleased to have it amongst my list of top 10 hits.

One of the rare DNQs of my peak era and an undeserved one if I say so myself. It's a very quirky electronic pop track which definitely still sounds rather unique in the Danævii list and in general. Shame that Vitalic's more recent material hasn't really done much for me.

Well I thought it apt to send a song from '99 to BJSC 99 and what better to send a lost trance classic which only barely made the UK top 40. It had a rather decent finish for what it was actually, I suspect it wouldn't get so high today. This remains one of my favourite trance songs from the genre's golden age in both the vocal and instrumental forms.

For the special occasion of the 100th contest who better to send than the dream team of TheFatRat & Laura Brehm with the track they followed up 'Monody' with, which I think is ever so slightly better though both are amongst my best entries. It's a very well written song here which had impressive staying power in my personal chart and still holds up as one of his best productions now. A position of 15th in such a highly contested final was very pleasing too.

During these 20 songs I definitely felt like it was a high point in the nation’s history. It was also incidentally during this time that Zanmatony joined the ranks of BJSC and became a frequent points-giver to the Danæviian nationals. No entries from this time went on to become big UK hits, but there were certainly some that deserved to such as DJ Licious, Tobtok and Oliver Moldan. It was great remembering pointing many of these entries in their respective finals, and it is also very pleasing to see the first ever awarded points to Zanmatony in BJSC 97. The tracks from Mr FijiWiji and also Leon Else are what I’ve rated lowest here, whilst the highlights in this section are Avicii, Basto and DJ Licious. One day I hope I can be inspired by the quality of this era to send an entry that Danæviia would be proud of (and give 18 points to! :lol:)

Tu Conmigo deserved much better. Preferred that to most of your qualifiers that year!
Well I did prefer most of my qualifiers to it but certainly it deserved better, particularly as 2017 was the closest I ever got to having a full calendar year of Qualifiers which I don't think I'll ever have the chance of doing so again.

A reasonably well known name in the world of EDM but I hope some of you who don't follow melodic house so closely are able to get a discovery out of this. It is taken from 'Reviver' his 4th album and my favourite album release of the year so far, featuring regular collaborator Arctic Lake who provides a very lovely vocal. He is also the label boss of This Never Happened where I took last year's undeserved flop 'Where You Are' by Embrz from as well as 'Reflections' by Archaellum for Club Bizarre. WHYDTM? has a slow build so do give it a bit of a chance for it to get going and don't turn off before the last-minute beat switch. If you enjoy the song then remember to vote for it in Semi 2.
