How does it hold up today?

 

A song that I was so wowed on first listen it simply had to be a BJSC entry even if I'd sent Laura twice before. Her vocal is stunning on this track with the light breakbeat production and strings perfectly complimenting it. If I'm to judge by vocal performance alone, this would be my best entry. The song's certainly still one of my most loved entries and it was especially pleasing to round out the year with this getting a top 10 placing.

Driftmoon is a trance DJ from Prague who specialises in fusing classical composition with trance. You may remember him from Club Bizarre winning entry 'Lights Will Guide You Home' or former BJSC entry 'Genesis'. We now send his best work to date, his newest release 'Nova Imperatrix', a high energy track with intense strings. The track marks the end of our year long hiatus from sending trance.

I knew I was gonna be a fan of this entry of course. Driftmoon deserves another shot at BJSC success after Genesis finished far too low.

 

Aside, 2019 was a brilliant Danæviia year. If pushed now, I'd probably say Rescue Me is my fave ever entry of yours. I revisit it pretty frequently!

Wait your new entry is giving Sexbomb by Tom Jones :thinking:

 

Introducing Hogland & Kiddo with their track "Letting Go", released in 2019 but recently going viral on HikDikDok and having peaked at #3 on Dottify. The pair come from Sweden and were clearly influenced by Kygo and Avicii in the making of this song taking the best bits of their songwriting style. It's a great summery dance-pop tune, and about time again I sent one of these.

Commentary:

It’s been a while since I did one of these, but I was up most of the night with COVID and to cheer myself up I decided to play these 20 songs from an era where I wasn’t involved (apart from BJSC 99). So this was a journey through South Danaelanda’s peaks as they continued to secure a decent Q streak for this time with a whole variety of different sounds. Standouts from the first 10 are the D&B entry from Dimension which did much better than my previously attempt at the genre when I sent Metrik in BJSC 90. The Sonny Fodero track would have been fun to discover in this contest before he became big, and I like seeing BUNT. make an appearance too! The production for Super8 & Tab is good but the vocal is a bit repetitive I found. Sadly I didn’t feel much towards the Yolanda Be Cool entry, it definitely seems like something that I would predict to be a risk in BJSC. Your winning entry for BJSC 113 is a breathtaking journey and I love it (I had never heard it before this review)! A rare rating of 10/10 from me. :heart: Then I gave 10/10 for the entry that followed which is a long-time favourite of mine and am so jealous I was not around to give you an additional 18 points (although I prefer the more chilled Moonwatcher Remix).

a shame that your Metrik entry DNQed, although he had done better songs - while you were away 'Dawnbreaker' from him got sent and finished 13th.

Sonny Fodera was already quite big in the dance world when I'd sent him but indeed clearly more of a recognisable name now.

Bunt were certainly worthy of representing Danæviia too, glad I held out for the right song of theirs to come along as I could have easily sent Take Me Home beforehand (which probably wouldn't have done so well)

I get why you'd find Burn rather repetitive but for me it is a proper anthem and that vocal hook being that catchy certainly does help it.

I did get the feeling Yolanda Be Cool would be risky but I'd been holding back that entry for years and I didn't have anything new I wanted to send that month, still sad that it was such a massive flop though but given the lack of support from elsewhere on the forum I can't be disappointed that it's one of your least favourites from me either.

It would've been great to have you here for my win with 2SFH and subsequent entry then given you rated both of those a 10, glad you finally got around to hearing my winner.

anyhow, hope your covid doesn't last for too long and I'll aim to get the final lot done during this contest period.

Not sure if it happens during the next twenty songs, but when did South Danaelanda rebrand and what song ended their journey and which one began for Danæviia?

Danæviia began with BJSC 111 (Headhunterz - Rescue Me)

I felt it appropriate to rebrand given the absolute flop of Yolanda Be Cool the previous context and I was growing less fond of Danaelanda as a country name anyhow (and also wanted to include a subtle Avicii tribute in my country name)

Yes, I wasn't familiar with the original song but it does seem like a rather inspired sample usage. Hope it can put me back in the final.

We finished in 25th, which was about where I was expecting so not bad.
