A nice groovy vocal house track, a bit standard from us but it did the job just about finishing top half of the final. I do miss mid-10s house for just casually giving us tunes like these as it does sound great listening to it back for the first time in a while.

How does it hold up today?

 

 

3 new personal bests in the span of five contests, not bad going for us at this point. This contest also marked the start of a new era with the expanded voting system and the most notable new nation addition (although I didn't vote for any of them). Sending deadmau5 to get there was perhaps a tad cheap but he was only the feature so there ya go, but I do think it's a lot better than most of what he was putting out at the time. Colleen really gives her all in the vocal front too which probably made it connect so well with the BJSC audience. I'm happy for it to have been one of my biggest hits although it isn't right up there with my all-time biggest fave entries.

Well this track is at least notable for one thing, to date it is the only main-contest Danæviia entry ever to include swearing!! It is one of the clear weak links of my 2015 anyhow, a bit of a fun tune but like most big room it certainly is very of its time and fairly basic, not the type of track I'd enter now. Vassy's vocal efforts is the clear highlight here with her attitude being the selling point of the track for me. We'll be seeing her again later on too...

Ah before CamelPhat were too big to send to BJSC, shame that this couldn't have been their commercial breakthrough though as it is a great track that sounds even better than a lot of their newer material. They'd of course even at this point been in the industry for a good while so clearly knew their stuff in the way of dance production.

 

And that is the first half of 2015 done...

Now this is still brilliant, sadly another underrated track from us in the contest. Nu-disco isn't a sub-genre we've sent a lot of simply because songs as good as this in the style are hard to come by. Oliver Nelson had previously done a few remixes including Ella Henderson 'Ghost' and Whitney 'How Will I Know' so he was certainly on my radar to find this anyhow though he never followed it up with anything nearly as good.

An excellent track back from when Kshmr had only just come into prominence in EDM. All these years later though I still consider it to be his best. With its India influence in the instrumental helping it stand out amongst all the other big room at the time (plus it being more on the melodic side of the genre) it managed to be my 3rd top 10 hit against my expectations.

The only time we failed to qualify in 2015, and looking back I can't really complain here, it isn't one of our finest moments. Christina's vocal really shines on it but the instrumental hasn't aged so well, being fairly standard and generic for the time. It was a shame to lose what was our longest qualification streak though. We'd eventually send a much better song from her later on and get a hit with it.

Perhaps not one of our most memorable entries, blending in with a lot of the house we sent around this time it is fairly mid-tier in our discography. However I am still enjoying it a fair bit listening back to it now for the first time in a while so it does have something going for it. Very oddly, The Six completely vanished off the face of the Earth after this song which was only their second release.

Now this is still a great track with its airy vocals and melodic synth breakdown, but 29th was probably the best we could have hoped for with it given progressive trance is a bit of a niche. A bit reminiscent of 'Language' too but that clearly didn't translate into a load of big points.

Keeping it classy for our 101st entry delving into a new era of Danæviia we have American country music veteran Reba McEntire, perhaps not someone you'd expect representing us however it is with a dance remix. Her song 'Fancy' was originally put out in 1990 but it has now been danced up by Dave Audé who has been a very notable remixer for quite some time.

Ah I still enjoy the Sigala track but it shouldn't have got past the veto! Hurts could've been somewhat of a hit had it got a radio push, shame that never happened. Glad you still remember and enjoy those entries from us from 2015.

Commentary:

What seems apparent from listening to these entries is that Danæviia are such a diverse and yet special nation. The quality of the music of the era is just fantastic. I truly wish I was around at the time to give so many of these maximum points. Especially Pep & Rash and Oliver Helden’s who both went on to be hits and feature in the Now That’s What I Call Music! series. Many of these artist names sent I would recognise, but I would not have known that they had been sent by Danæviia before. Of these twenty, I was glad to discover Laurel, Shadow Child & Doorly, Mediate and KSHMR. All of these sounded great. I was also delighted to re-discover the entry by Ferreck Dawn that I recognised the sound of but never knew the tune ID until now! On a slight negative note, I think the entry by Full Crate x Mar may qualify as my least liked entry by this fine nation to date.

thanks again! glad that you're continuing to enjoy most of our past entries and that Climbin and Jammu were amongst your highlights for discoveries as two of my big faves from this era. 'Man x Woman' is one of my personal least faves so won't begrudge the low score for that.

A dance remix from a veteran country diva is such a genius entry choice, an untapped market in BJSC for sure unless I'm forgetting something obvious! I think it's a very safe Q for you personally.
