reassuring that 'love yourself' is still well ahead of 'stitches', with streaming data missing hopefully 'sorry' can stay ahead of mendes as well! ^_^

“Sorry” doesn't have that much of a lead over “Stitches” on streaming - besides Shawn will begin to pull away at #1 now. I think he has #2 (wait for it) ALL SEWN UP. :basil:

Good luck to those doing the old chart back catalogue histories for Friday's chart, should be hard enough :P

^Talk about damning with faint praise. I used to like you Dandy*

Anyway, thinking given the iTunes progression that Bowie could have a significant number of singles in the T40 even as early as this Friday..

As Paul Gambaccinni said today, there seems to be no one song that stands out in Bowie's back catalogue. I'd have said Space Oddity as it was a hit twice and No.1 second time round but yet Heroes is highest on I-Tunes.

MJ spent 5 weeks at no1 in the albums when he died wonder how long Bowie could top it, albeit different times of the year.

*8 weeks (one week with 'Number Ones' in the partial week immediately after his death, then a further seven weeks with 'The Essential Michael Jackson').

I could see Bowie doing something similar, obviously #1 with 'Blackstar' this week then maybe knocking himself off next week with one of his compilations and spending a few further weeks at #1 (maybe not quite 7 weeks). Unsure which of his compilations is most likely to contend for #1, I guess probably 'Nothing has changed.' since it's the most up to date hits compilation and probably the most widely available but I expect 'Best Of Bowie' will be up there as well (that actually only has a peak of #11 to date!)

And his highest compilation on iTunes is for some reason the Best Of 1969-1974 album which obviously isn't that comprehensive at all. I just accidentally contributed a sale to that when I was trying to check its tracklist. There could be worse things to accidentally download I guess

On Amazon it's the Best Of Bowie compilation from 2002 but it's out of stock like most Bowie albums now.

I would've assumed it would be 'Best of Bowie' that had the biggest, most sustained boost just because it's the one I usually see stocked/advertised most in HMV and even the cover is instantly recognisable. It's the one I went straight to this evening anyway :P
Slightly off topic but it appears Bowie's albums are selling out on amazon in the US as well, I wonder if that's happening elsewhere, will be interesting to see how many countries Blackstar get's to number one in

Oh right, so they haven't switched over to the newer one then ~

The newer one has a much better tracklisting, people should buy that :D

Total sales for that one: 128k

Well Nothing has changed. has been in the charts quite frequently since its release, selling 60k+ in both 2014 and 2015, so is clearly stocked somewhere! Best of Bowie charted again following the release of The Next Day but, since the new GH, it hasn't been appearing in the charts. That said, I can see both making an impression, although probably more for the new one given there's about 3 versions of it (I think one with 1 disc, one with 2 and another with 3).

Surely versions 1 and 3 couldn't be counted as the same album - aren't there rules that 80% of the content has to be the same to be counted as the same title?

It will also be interesting to see how the brand new albums sales react.

What a legend. Sounds strange but really want to watch the tv show Life of Mars.

Sales are so low I reckon 7 weeks in total across different albums. Then Brits Adele at no.1, intermittently taking the 1 on low sales weeks until November when it will flop out, ending its chart run on 3.1-.2 million sales.

That's a good point but I'm pretty confident all three editions are combined for the charts; I've certainly not seen any separate chart entries for the album.

You might be right about a long Bowie reign now, but to be honest, I know Adele is performing and will probably win some awards, but I wouldn't rule out another artist getting to number 1 after the Brits, depending on what the performances are like and who's performing them ! Especially since so many people already own Adele's album.

Btw, is Bowie American?

Yeah, 7 weeks is still a great chart run at 1 - the same as Wannabe! So she doesn't really need anymore.

I wouldn't rule out a David Bowie montage at the end of the Brits, to recognise his work to the music industry.

No, he's from London!
