January 15, 20169 yr Hopefully? With a Brit awards performance and several more singles to come, you think there's a chance this won't be able to shift another 500k copies. This is Adele we're talking about. It will scrape 500k sales this year at best.
January 15, 20169 yr ^do you realise it has already sold 43k, which is almost 9% of 500k, in one week? And most likely another 29k this week, which should put it on 14% of that 500k in two weeks. So of COURSE it will cross 3m mark. I'd say another million for '25' this year, maybe several hunderd thousands more if they handle the Q4 promo properly.
January 15, 20169 yr If its sales have ALREADY collapsed to 29k and most fans already HAVE the album or bought it as Christmas presents, I don't see why you all think more than 500k is likely?
January 15, 20169 yr ^^Well, in the exact same sales week of 2012, Adele's 21 sold 23,831. Since then it has sold over a million further copies.
January 15, 20169 yr Exactly. By Jan 2012 it had sold 3.8m, all its singles had been released, and it was selling less than 25 on a week to week basis. Yet it still sold almost 800k in 2012. So chances are 25 will easily pass 500k this year in my opinion.
January 15, 20169 yr But it had been on sale much longer by that point. If you want to act like 25 is somehow a flop, then fine. 21 may have been on sale longer by the point it reached 29k sales, but you have to remember that 21 never went above 300k sales in a single week. 25 had five consecutive weeks where it sold a minimum of 350k, and for three of those weeks, it sold over 400k. 25's sales were far more front loaded than 21's, so it isn't in any way a surprise that it's total sales dropped of quicker. You say most fans already have it? Most fans already had 21 at the beginning of 2012, yet it still sold more than 500k for the rest of that year. Plus you say its sales have already "collapsed"? Selling 29k in its eighth week when it's already sold over 2.5 million is not a "collapse". It will sell a large amount the week of the Brits, we still have no idea how many singles are to come, plus the album will almost certainly still be Top 15 come Christmas, when the sales will be higher. So of course it will hit 3 million this year. Edited January 15, 20169 yr by andeeeeyhart
January 15, 20169 yr If its sales have ALREADY collapsed to 29k and most fans already HAVE the album or bought it as Christmas presents, I don't see why you all think more than 500k is likely? Subsequent single releases and promotion. I'm thinking she'll do 100k+ the week of the BRITS with a performance of "When We Were Young" and her carpool karaoke got an album track to #3 on UK iTunes. All she needs is to push more singles and promote to do very very well in terms of sales. So I think she'll easily pass 500k this year alone. I'm thinking it'll do more along the lines of 1-1.5 million.
January 15, 20169 yr I don't believe that 25 will sell as many for the simple reason it is not quite as good.
January 15, 20169 yr It's better. However 21 is her defining album so of course 25 won't sell as many.
January 15, 20169 yr If its sales have ALREADY collapsed to 29k and most fans already HAVE the album or bought it as Christmas presents, I don't see why you all think more than 500k is likely? Because look at the response with a tiny bit of promo - She sung a minutes worth of 'All I Ask' in a car with James Cordon so not even a proper performance and it's sent the song Top 3 on iTunes - And has boosted her entire back catalogue, A few key performances throughout the year on the Brits/Grammys etc will ensure the album at least sells another 500k - Radio will support any tracks she releases and exposure will be high for the world tour. January 15, 20169 yr 3 million is amazing! How could that be a flop?? I just find it hard to believe you think Adele will struggle to sell 500k in almost a year.
January 15, 20169 yr Adele has produced the two biggest selling albums of the 21st century and we seem to be acting like 25 is a failure
January 15, 20169 yr I feel like if she wants to a 21 esque era, she needs to stop relying on Hello and supply the public with other iconic hits-to-be from the album so they're actually interested for a sustained period of time, I'm pretty sure she promised a When We Were Young release months ago?

It's being pushed in February. Likely with a BRITS performance. Can anyone shed any light on what 21's sales were at this point? 21 was on sales of 1,340,426 in its 8th week - 25 currently more than 1 million sales ahead of it in its 8th week (~2.57 million). January 16, 20169 yr I just find it hard to believe you think Adele will struggle to sell 500k in almost a year. Me too - I'm shocked people think it will struggle to do 500,000 - That works out to an average of 9,615 sales a week needed to achieve it. There are at least a further 2 singles to be pushed and she could have a few 80k weeks with the Brits - I think everyone is underestimating the power of Adele.
January 16, 20169 yr It's the fact it's only been out for two months and people seem to have expected it to have matched 21's sales already! Hello is still in the top ten and hasn't left since release and all I ask is doing well so guys give it time ! Even if it doesn't match 21 success so what it's still broken records in the meantime !
January 16, 20169 yr I have learned to never underestimate what Adele is capable of. Having only released one single, I think it's too early to be saying with any certainty that 25 won't outsell 21. Given the colossal sales of 21, it does have a long way to go. However, Adele's promotion always seems well planned and with plenty of potential single choices who knows what the album is capable of selling. Personally, I think there's definitely the potential for plenty more sales. Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran both sold well over 800,000 copies last year, having been out for a while. I imagine Adele will remain top 10 all year and easily sell another million copies of 25.
