Kathy and Marg could have easily overpowered him....you know, AGAIN.

DTC really hyped him up but Friday is DTC's last episode then something needs to happen in the next 2 or else Gavin will be forever cemented a flop.

Gavin is a terrible character, flat, no impact on the show at all. The character is empty.

I know! Marge is hard as nails and with back up from Kathy, they could have easily battered him. Gavin looks like he's about to keel over at any minute

I was watching an interview with Gavin/Paul and it felt to me like this was the end of the storyline and he'd be killed off. That is, at least, until they asked at the end as to whether he'd come back again to which he replied "we'll see" or something along those lines, but even that could just be BS to keep his death secret.

At this point, I don't care about him proving himself, I just want him gone.

I thought he left ages ago and then he keeps popping up

But they've bigged him up too much in the writing too.

Kathy: you don't know what he's capable of!

No, we don't, because he does f*** all.

Marge: you're not still going ahead with that are you! It's INSANE!

What is? What's the plan? Lure Kathy to a big house?

Threatening people with a lighter and offering them a drink is the worst he's done, he may as well be in my Year 9 tutor group.

Thank god pathetic Gavin is gone. DTC has gone out on a whimper after his superb first 18 months. I can't believe this is the same exec producer who pulled EE back from the brink in 2014/early 2015.

Where did it all go wrong? It seems lack of planning after the Live week was his downfall. Everything up to then was superbly planned and paced. Even the Summer lull didn't seem that bad compared to usual. Given the show fought back to some superb ratings in Live Week, they should have worked super hard to keep that audience with the type of quality we were getting in the early days of DTC. Even Lorraine Newman had some mildly good work to end her stint (the Michael vs Janine storyline was fantastic and was the only thing to save her tenure from disaster), yet DTC goes out on a whimper with a disappointing series of episodes killing off one of EE biggest legends and centring around his flop storylines (Gavin and the Cokers blackmail). I except the Summer lull will continue as Sean O'Connor's work doesn't come on screen until September. Here's hoping he has a BIG Autumn planned (something on the level of the superb Slater House fire / Phil & Sharon's Wedding / Linda's rape storyline block that came to kick off Autumn 2014).

Sorry I went on a bit :P Basically DTC had a lot of promise but he's undone all his good work over the past year and now I'm glad to see the back of him.

"Oh no, poor Libby" teas from Sharon in regards to Margaret at the beginning! I enjoyed her scenes after that though, even if the material wasn't really up to scratch.

I'm pretty sure DTC was involved in the October/November 2013 stuff which still had Newman's name to it - in fact, I think most of the time there's a month or so crossover, apart from in the case of SOC taking over from DTC (there seems to be a bit of confusion as to why DTC left relatively quickly after confirmation of him standing down).

Unfortunately, I have to agree that I'm glad DTC has gone. He had all of late 2013 to Live Week perfectly planned out which meant storyline ran smoothly and remained at a constantly high quality, plus each character had something to do. Then it started to go down hill, but I could deal with that because the Autumn looked huge with Kathy's return to the square, plus the show did pick up at points during the summer, like the Bobby storyline starting to progress with Ben's arrest and Max being put under the spotlight, Kathy and Sharon's reunion and Shabnam's storyline. However, the Autumn stuff did not live up to expectations at all - Kathy's return was handled terribly with unrealistic reactions from her family and the no-one cared about the Mitchells vs. Hubbards because it relied greatly on backstory, which resulted in a poor Christmas week. 2016 has been pretty good, the beginning certainly so with Stacey's storyline, but a lot of DTC's bad habits like story-blocking and history retcons remained and I'm so ready for fresh blood.

A big problem with DTC is that he's too much of a fan-girl of the show. In the latter part of his reign, he was trying to recreate classic moments of the past instead of making new iconic moments and I think, as much as you need to be passionate about your show, you need to also keep a level head and plan things properly. I'm really hoping that SOC's involvement in 2000-2002 storylines is proof that he can return the show to its former glory and sustain it.

Urgh, why couldn't Margaret inherit Gavin's ability to survive multiple head wounds?

What a load of old shit. Gavin was a nothing character. We're supposed to believe this guy was with Kathy for 15 years and has been mentioned in show since 2000 and is Sharon's father? What a complete waste of potential. He had no personality beyond evil and it just makes Kathy seem even more thick.

I suppose it's fitting he went out with such a whimper, for such a bland character. They really pulled his life support themselves but never showing this evil side Kathy went on and on about, with Archie (why on EARTH they made that comparison I don't know, that just highlight how shit he was) you saw it all, what he was capable of. With Gavin all you had was Kathy seeming mildly scared of him, and slight threats to Claudette etc. for money. He was like a bog standard recurring villain who Warren Fox would cross like twice in Hollyoaks at best and I'm more than glad to see him gone. If he'd been a serial killer or something, maybe the hype compared to Archie wouldn't be so bad, but wow... Even his exit was just "oh ok".
This, along with everything else, continues to make that Mother's Day week really odd since none of it was ever followed up properly. Claudette being yet another person who can survive horrific injuries. Maybe Fatboy isn't dead after all.....

Friday's episode of EastEnders was utterly bizarre... like a terribly acted B movie with a nonsensical plot. It just fell completely flat (like Margaret x). The biggest cringe (and there were many) was Gavin shouting "Sharonnnnnnnnnnnnnn" upon getting arrested. :')

I feel like the Buster/Kathy thing is extremely forced too, not in the slightest bit natural/believable. I'd go as far to say that Kathy is a character really isn't working this time around, which is such a shame. :( I hope this can be addressed, as I'm sure there's still potential there.

It's funny how when Billy is babbling on about Les being a pervert, Pam seems to forget those photos of Lucy she found under his fridge.

Michelle's letter is blatantly about Mark Fowler Jnr's paternity. Fancy story lining this right after Peggy's funeral and her dying without ever knowing the truth.

Like when Mick was quick to judge Jay despite the situation Mick found himself in with Rainie a couple of year back. People have short memories.

If the letter is in regards to Mark Junior (which it seems very likely to be), I can't work out how much/how little Sharon knew about him prior. She must have known about him beforehand because of the amount of times she's visited Michelle in the US (and I recall her mentioning how the both of them couldn't make her and Phil's wedding in 2014) but I'm guessing she might not have been aware Grant was the father. If she had only found that out from the letter, she seemed pretty passive about her best friend sleeping with her ex-husband. Also, why would Michelle feel inclined to tell Peggy just because she was dying? She travelled half the world away just to stop Grant from knowing about Mark and has kept it up 20 years, why would she risk him finding out?

I can't remember who knows how much tbh. Sharon definitely didn't know the paternity because she was one of the reasons it was hidden. She was still married to Grant at time of conception. I believe Mark knew and I've heard that Martin knows and that he told Pauline before she died but my memory is hazy.

Yeah, I had heard similar in regards to Pauline, Martin and Mark. Hopefully this will be cleared up if this is the storyline resulting from this letter.

Big news here: http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/eastenders...-news-hospital/

I have a feeling that the lack of details and how sudden this spoiler has been revealed suggests there is more to it. I personally think that

the doctors may believe the person is Ben because he has something that has his name on (like some sort of ID without a picture) but it's actually Paul, as rumours spurred from teasers have suggested Paul's exit was in fact his death).

Yeah I think it's definitely Paul and he has Ben's ID or something. I've noticed spoilers on one site deliberately stop at Phil and Ian identifying he body, because it'll be that point they'll be like "nah that's Paul". Idk where Ben will be but he's probably just in hospital and Paul somehow has his ID or phone and Ben has nothing so they haven't ID'd him yet.
