'Beautiful Liar' is really overrated. So bland! The Freemasons remix saves it, but even still, that in itself is overrated. 'Work' by Kelly Rowland is saved by Freemasons as well, but is overplayed for me now. 'Issues' has always been one of my favourite Saturdays songs. So under appreciated.

'Try Sleeping...' is seriously STUNNING. One of my all time faves. Along with 'Bad Boys' & 'Bad Romance'. 2009 picks were great all round though, save for 'Love Story' which is "ok" at best for me. I'd have opted for 'Fight For This Love' or 'My Life Would Suck...' over it, but it's still good. 'Battlefield' and 'Untouched' are both forgotten gems <3

Made it so my fave got 6 points etc... So here's how I rank the mods choices (with my fave of each of their choices next to them)

+41: TIM: 'Hurt'/'Umbrella'/'Hallelujah'/'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart'/'What's My Name?'

+32: CAMERON: 'Too Little, Too Late'/'Bleeding Love'/'Issues'/'Battlefield'/'Perfect'

+32: LIAM: 'SOS'/'Listen'/'Run'/'Bad Romance'/'A Year Without Rain'

So yeah. Tim is slaying right now! Bolded are the songs which got the most points. However, Liam will be getting bonus points for being more inspired at the end. I might add a point for each "inspired"/unexpected choice. Irregardless of whether I like the song or not.

Tim's Picks:

Ke$ha - Blow

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

I said it in 2010 and I'll say it in 2011; Ke$ha was on a damn roll with these era's. Blow was the 2nd single from Canibal

and a certified smash. In my opinion it is a lot better than We R Who We R, which started grating on me after a few months.

Meanwhile this still sounds like a proper tune when I play it now.

Back in the day I remember hearing it when I went out, despite it flopping in The Netherlands (RIP Dutch ha taste).

The video was played on music channels alot tho and I remember going crazy when it came on.

Yes I was THAT much of a stan. Kesha is Queen, Kesha is Life xoxo

Jennifer Lopez ft. Pibtull - On The Floor

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

On The Floor – Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull

After a flop attempt at a comeback with Louboutins (which was erased from the internet as much as possible), Jenny from the Block

came back with this ICONIC piece of art that was On The Floor. It's remembered as one of the biggest comebacks in recent times and

hit top 5's around the world. The songs first performance on American Idol shot this to the higher regions of the iTunes chart.

I remember how it was literally EVERYWHERE that time. It was in the clubs, on the radio, on TV and people were obsessing over it.

It was the ultimate party song and the iconic "let me introduce you to my party people" was quoted many a times. Even right now

it's impact is felt with appearances in games like Just Dance. This song and it's album are still amazing, too bad the album and its singles

after On The Floor kinda flopped.

Despite that On The Floor inspired Jlo to remake it every now and then with Dance Again and Live It Up

Cameron's Picks:

Beyoncé - Best Thing I Never Had

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Oh my goodness, for me this is one of my favourite ever songs by Beyoncé. I feel that it is often overlooked on this site because it wasn't a massive hit like some of her other material. I really don't know what it is that I like about this track. It just feels quite different from her usual stuff. Of course, Bey looks INCREDIBLE in the music video, which I guess is another reason why it has over 200 million views on Youtube! I really cannot praise the track enough. I also love the added sass in Bey's voice which I think really gets the message of the song across. Let's be honest, no one will be able to sing it like she does. wub.gif

Christina Perri - A Thouand Years

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

I really struggled to pick just one song by Christina Perri for this countdown. Those who know me will be aware of how much I adore her voice and songwriting skills. She is just so incredibly talented and it upsets me that she still seems to be incredibly underappreciated in the world. I was originally going to go with Jar Of Hearts but I soon realized that I love A Thousand Years so much more. The lyrics are incredibly beautiful, as is Christina in the video. I actually forget that this song is off of the Twilight soundtrack. Speaking of the soundtrack, I urge all of you to listen to Part 2. It really is something special and the song makes an even better duet which I never thought would have been humanly possible. This again is another song that I just cannot praise enough and I do hope some of you love it as much as I do.

Liam's Picks:

Demi Lovato - Skyscraper

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Undoubtedly one of my absolute favourite songs ever  It came out at a really hard time of my life, I remember that particular day I stayed off school pretending to be ill because it was going to premiere in the daytime  It struck me so hard, as it gave so much raw emotion right from the first note and it really pertained to Dem’s struggles at the time. It’s still as stunning as ever, despite taking a battering so Sam Bailey’s foghorn cover that stripped the song of all meaning and emotion. The vocals on this are supposed to be fragile like Demi’s, on the verge of breaking through all the pain. The stick this gets physically hurts me </3

2NE1 - I Am The Best

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Onto happier times now, with an absolute banger from one of the world’s best and most talented girlbands. This was the song that truly made me sit up and take notice of K-Pop, it could rival anything that Girls Aloud, Sugababes and The Saturdays could ever have put their name to in the 21st Century up to that point. A huge electro-house influenced track, in English this could have made them the first Korean girlband to break through and been a pioneer for proper K-Pop worldwide (Gangnam Style doesn’t count).

I'd say I love A Thousand Years as much as you Cam - indeed even better than Jar Of Hearts which it's hard to believe she could ever surpass.

I agree with Tim too, Blow is one of Ke$ha's best and certainly better than We R Who We R!

Idk why but "Lights" will always be a 2012 song for me

It did take aaaaaagesss to cross over the Atlantic

Tim's Picks:

Alexandra Burke - Elephant

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Oh Alexandra girl what has happened. This song was my everthing in 2012 and I don't even care about y'all judging me.

I remember her giving hints at the single very subtle. For instance, her birthday cake was an Elephant and she was wearing an elephant necklace.

I think this was meant to be released around august time so she could perform on The X-Factor but her flop label delayed it and it was

debuted in January at least.

I remember being so hyped about this and even tuning into Radio 1's Dance Programme or whatever to hear its remix premier. Turned out

it was some lowkey premier that nobody but fans woulda noticed and they even credited Eric Morillo as the main artist. Shady bitches.

But it was released and against all odds this did reasonably well in the UK. It was a hit, despite Capital blacklisting her and R1 giving minimal backing.

It was the beginning of her downfall. Follow-up single Let It Go limped in at a disappointing #33 (altho with only KissFm backing it I wouldn't ven call that a horrendous

showing) and the album sold less than 20k in total. Alexandra was dropped and is now doing musicals rolleyes.gif

ANYWAYS like I said this song was my everything back then and it's currently my 3rd most played song EVER. Alexandra will remain an icon in my eyes :')

Amelia Lily - You Bring Me Joy

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Amelia Lily was a contestant on the X-Factor UK. She got booted off, then miraculously brought back in some weird twist I don't remember (didn't someone

get kicked off cause of drug abuse or something) and bagge ehrself a recording contract. A career was born. Well career? This song was born and her 2 flop singles that followed it.

You Bring Me Joy contained everything that I loved about Girls Aloud their singles. It was catchy, upbeat and exploded into something incredible.

Wot a flawless bop this remains. I remember people were asking me what the song was when I played it to them and they loved it as well.

It's a shame she wasn't pushed outside the UK.

Cameron's Picks:

Cover Drive - Sparks

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

I was originally going to write about Kiss The Stars by Pixie Lott, but I thought that this song was just too good to miss out so I switched it last minute. Although the green eye makeup >>>>>> Where do I begin with Cover Drive? They had so much potential after I adored all of their singles up until the random Dappy edit of Explode. Their debut album is actually really good and I thoroughly enjoy listening to it from time to time. I am actually gutted that they got dropped from their label because they brought something different to the table in terms of pop music. Can we also take a minute to appreciate the incredible instrumental to this track? I adore the random crackling noises within the first minute of the song. Rather creepy but so effective at the same time. Bravo Cover Drive.

Paloma Faith - Picking Up The Pieces

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Yeah... I really don't know where to start with this song, or my love for Paloma Faith. This is arguably her best song, even better than Only Love Can Hurt Like This. The emotion in Paloma's vocals is what really made me start to stan for her. Before it's release, I enjoyed Upside Down and New York, but never really paid much attention to her as an artist or an individual. Now however, I am OBSESSED with her. Anyway, back to the song, this is just so incredible. The music video is also very clever but then again, a tad creepy with a random melting Paloma made out of wax. I would hate to have been the person who had to clean that up!

Liam's Picks:

Loreen - Euphoria

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

It had to be this didn’t it? If ever a song summed up how crazy Buzzjack can go for a perfect pop track, it’s this. The minute I heard the clip before she performed in the fateful Melodifestivalen heat, I knew that this was an absolute monster of a song, and I was right. After 9 weeks atop my chart, a Eurovision win and heaps of critical acclaim, Euphoria is one of the most hyped tracks ever seen on Buzzjack. Whilst this site can really go OTT at times, this trancey dance-pop behemoth deserves every bit of praise and more. I still have that incredible feeling I felt on my first listen every single listen, even 4 years later. Without a doubt, this is inside my top 5 songs of all time.

Gotye & Kimbra – Somebody That I Used To Know

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

This is strictly not 2012 as it came out in 2011, but by the time it reached our neck of the woods it was 2012 and it took so long to grow on me I didn’t like it until late 2011 anyway! Written and produced by Gotye alone, Somebody That I Used To Know spent 5 weeks atop the UK chart and 8 atop the Billboard Hot 100 In the US. This was the ultimate slow burner, as I hated it and found it boring at first but it really crept on me and I still love it to this day. I adore the way it builds, peaking, in my opinion, wit Kimbra’s striking verse. It’s a shame that for such a big hit it is comparatively forgotten nowadays

:music:

all of those apart from PUTP are 9/10 choons or above, great choices :D

2012 was my favorite year of the decade so far! Mostly good picks there, although none really defined the year for me except Euphoria and Somebody That I Used To Know. Cover Drive though :')

2013

Tim's Picks:

Samantha Jade - Firestarter

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

It was 2012 when Samantha Jade won the X-Factor Australia and claimed the #1 spot with her winner's single What You've Done To Me.

In 2013 Sammy returned to the stage and released Firestarter, which was an Aussie top 10 hit for her and paved the way for more success and an album release.

Sadly this wasn't the case but let's focus on the positive sides.

This is an UTTER TUNE. It's fierce, it's catchy, it has powerful vocals, it's upbeat and it sounds amazing in the car. In short everything I want from a song. Sammy herself is wifey goals as well.

I was OBSESSED with this and it took my stanning for her to new heights. If you aint heard it yet, check it out as well as Soldier, Sweet Talk and Shake That.

Aussie pop at its finest.

The Saturdays - What About Us

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Aaaaaand there it is... the inevitable Sats track inclusion. This is their 2nd best track but it's definately one of the best tracks of 2013.

This was the girls' first promoted release outside the UK. It reached the dazzling heights of #103 on US iTunes, as well as the official top 30 in New Zealand and #44 in Germany.

Enough of that tho, let's appreciate the fact that this finally became a #1 for them.

I was so obsessed with this. I think it went to #1 in my chart on several occasions and I would play it to anyone who wanted or didn't want to hear it.

Y'all know I am a Sats stan, so y'all understand how happy and relieved I was when they finally got their #1 and broke the 100k barrier at that as well

Cameron's Picks:

Gabrielle Aplin - Please Don't Say You Love Me

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Again, as you all know I love my female singers, especially if they play the piano! ;) I really struggled to pick what Gabrielle Aplin song I wanted to include because all the singles released from her debut album are 10/10's. I decided that Please Don't Say You Love Me would be a fitting choice as it is probably her most well known on Buzzjack other that The Power Of Love. Gabrielle really is such a talented songwriter and I love the tone to her voice. The music video to the track is also incredibly cute and Gabrielle is rocking the fringe (or bangs to you Americans) that is too long for her forehead.

Bridgit Mendler - Ready Or Not

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

This has to be one of the quirkiest songs to come out in the past 5 years. I don't care if some people find it incredibly cheesy and grating on the ears. It is INCREDIBLE. I think out of all the Disney girls, Bridgit is very overlooked and probably just associated as being a one hit wonder. I bet you all forgot her flopping on her bed like a flying squirrel in Hurricane? Both songs are Vevo certified now. SLAY MI HOLE. I really love the middle 8 break-down of this song. It is just so feel good and it makes me want to sing along at the top of my lungs.

Liam's Picks:

Demi Lovato - Heart Attack

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Still her biggest UK hit to date, I still remember hearing it for the first time  This is pretty much the perfect pop song, so catchy and well produced and breezy! Her vocals help this soar and the lyrics, while clichéd, are something which most people can relate to. Whilst I adored her material before and she still hasn’t beaten Skyscraper, I feel that the release of this is when I realised Demi’s potential to be one of the big pop girls, it’s just a shame that hasn’t happened yet.

Tove Lo - Habbits

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Strictly the original thanks. The remix is great in itself but the original is so majestic, it’s a shame that the remix completely took over in most territories about the US. However, this hedonistic anthem was a massive hit in the US, peaking at #3 and selling 2.6 million copies. The great thing about its success was that it kind of came from nowhere, and I love when that happens! One minute she’s just charting in Sweden, being a bit of a blog success, the next she’s smashing it in the US <3 The upbeat and happy sounding production is a juxtaposition which creates a unique sound for an easily identifiable pop song, I just wish more people knew the original  Hopefully her second era makes her even more of a star with more hits.

My rates out of 10:

xx Samantha Jade - Firestarter

10 The Saturdays - What About Us

8 Gabrielle Aplin - Please Don't Say You Love Me

9 Bridgit Mendler - Ready Or Not (this gal needed another hit tbh, Hurricane was also a tune  )

10 Demi Lovato - Heart Attack definitely one of her best, if not best :music:

Tove Lo - Habits (11 for the remix, 8 for the original)

great picks again from ha mods :cheer:

YES @ Liam picking Sir Gotye  'Habits' is also very good, and 'You Bring Me Joy' I like a lot more than I did at the time
Ready Or Not is the biggest jam and I'm not even bothered *.*

I remember someone in another forum dropping "Habits (Stay High)" out of NOWHERE and everyone just FAWNED over it. We did a Danger Zone BJSC hybrid contest (with only songs that didn't make the Hot 100) and it came third.

Clearly my 11 goes to that

2014

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Tim's Picks:

Pitbull ft. Ke$ha - Timber

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Timber

One of my favourite tunes ever! This song pretty much defined the first half of 2014 for me and even during my holiday, this'd be all over the clubs.

Such a catchy tune and Pitbull really did right getting Ke$ha to be on this. Shame on Rihanna for passing on this, but she didn't need the exposure.

Ke$ha however did, so I'm glad it turned out to be a worldwide #1 hit, as well as an 11-week #1 in my personal chart.

Selena Gomez - The Heart Wants What It Wants

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

It's Queen Selenur with her hit sang The Heart Wants What It Wants. This song is just magical and I loved this from the moment it was released.

Coincidentally this defined the second half of 2014 for me

Her AMA performance of this is absolutely flawless and you can see the raw emotion. It's a song that goes along, but it work.

It doesn't have that explosion most ballads have but Selena's humble (is that the right word) really work in a song tlike this. Absolutely flawless and to this day I still adore it.

Cameron's Picks:

G.R.L. - Ugly Heart

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

It's time for another girl band, surprise, surprise. Alas, this will be one of the only songs to be released by G.R.L and is actually their last single to feature the vocals of Simone Battle. The death of Simone really hit us all hard here on Buzzjack. The band had so much potential to become the next big girl band after this song blew up worldwide. The quirky video also helps make the song enjoyable, as does the Ukulele used throughout. Sadly G.R.L split last year after releasing the tribute track Lighthouse to Simone. I am still gutted about that, but I guess they didn't want to keep living in the past sad.gif

The Vamps ft. Demi Lovato - Somebody To You

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

I really wanted to include a Demi track and was looking at my 2014 End Of Year chart and remembered how much of a tune this was. I am not normally a fan of bands like The Vamps and 5 Seconds Of Summer purely because of their obesessive teenage fans jumping down your throat if you point out a flat note in a live performance. This song, however, is very good. I loved it before the Demi feature was announced, and obviously, Demi only added to it with her incredible powerhouse vocals and snatched weaves from all across BUzzjack with it.

Liam's Picks:

Ricki-Lee - Mirage

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Ah, finally time for Australian local flop :kink:f Ricki-Lee has steadily been having hits to a varying degree since her stint on Idol in 2005 ended with a shock elimination in 7th place. Despite two platinum singles in 2012, she hasn’t had a top 20 single since 2012, but the most criminal flop is this gem of a ballad, which bafflingly missed the top 100 entirely. Easily her best vocal performance since she tackled Whitney’s I Have Nothing during Idol (in fact, this surpasses that), Mirage is a towering ballad of epic proportions which to be quite honest a lot of the big pop girls would struggle to tackle. The absolute pinnacle is the middle 8, which explodes with immensely powerful vocals I didn’t know Ricki was capable of! Truly, this is one of the most effortlessly stunning mid-tempo ballads I have ever heard! I didn’t give myself a sore throat once by trying to sing the middle 8 for nothing.

Ella Henderson - Ghost

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Moving from a pretty unknown track to one of the biggest hits, it’s Ricki-Lee’s fellow shock talent show elimnee Ella Henderson. She finished 6th despite being the bookies favourite for most of her stint on the show, and subsequently took 2 years before she hit us with any material – and boy did she hit us! With help from Ryan Tedder, this young girl from Grimsby unleashed a veritable pop monster. This garnered critical and commercial success, peaking at #1 in the UK, #3 in Australia and even #21 in the US. It just goes to show that a monster pop song can be really all you need, as people expected Ella to be forgotten about having taken longer than the standard year after X Factor to release. Her career even spawned its own Buzzjack troll loon, the infamous Mirror Man, which is of course when you know you’ve made it.

2015

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Tim's Picks:

Selena Gomez - Good For You

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

2015 definitely was the year of Selegend for me. She got out of her contract with Hollywood Records and signed with Interscope.

She came back with her album Revival, which is one of the best of 2015. The first single Good For You showed a newer, sultrier and more mature sound.

The A$AP Rocky assisted track became her first top 5 hit in the US, as well as another top 20 in the UK and an 11-week #1 in my personal chart.

I've been obsessed with this song since it was released and have annoyed so many people with it, but it was worth it

Fifth Harmony (ft. Kid Ink) - Worth It

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

When Fifth Harmony were on The X-Factor US I never expected to like a song by their so much. They were such a cute popgroup that was never gonna make it.

Boy was I wrong. Thet came out with their biggest hit to date Worth It, including a new and sexier image and a more urban sound.

This song really blew up in the 2nd quarter of the year as I started hearing it in the clubs A LOT.

This song is absolutely amazing, despite it's relatively cheap use of the trumpet sound. It's definately in my top 20 songs of the decade so far.

Cameron's Picks:

Zara Larsson - Lush Life

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Before I start I will just state that 'Lee Wallace stanned Zara first' before he comments telling us that. :kink: Lee actually did introduce me to Zara when he played Uncover on Plug one night and I was like oh my god who is this queen. But this is about Lush Life. Oh my lord, what a song! It is currently blowing up here in the UK but obviously those of us on Buzzjack will know it from 2015. It is so catchy and I feel the video is so simple but effective. I wish I could spend 3-4 hours dancing in front of a green screen. I really don't know what else I can say about the song because I feel by now you will all be sick to death of me praising every single song that I have listed here so I will end with a thank you.

Carly Rae Jepsen - Run Away With Me

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

I feel like I can't really pick a favourite song from 2015 because it was so recent and still seems too new to me, I did, however, go with this track in the end. What an incredible way for Carly to introduce us to her new album. I Really Like You done very well worldwide, but Run Away With Me is the real highlight of the album. it just defines a perfect pop song. I really cannot praise it enough and I know that any of you who listen to it will be hooked as soon as the chorus comes in. The added 'Ooo Oo Oo Oo' during the chorus just adds to how infectious the song is and really is a highlight of the track.

Thank you for reading this thread and thank you for supporting the pop forum and indeed pop music for the past 10 years :wub

Liam's Picks:

Fleur East - Sax

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

The first time I heard this I knew it was a smash! Coming soon after Ben Haenow’s career pretty much died on arrival, Sax blew everything at the time out of the water with its bombastic instrumental and Fleur’s brash, confident vocal performance, blending rap and singing seamlessly. Admittedly, this isn’t the most unique song ever, but I defy anybody to not sing along even if you don’t like it :kink: Syco put everything into it becoming a hit with two X Factor performances and an omnipresent Asda advert, and that proved t be a successful strategy as this peaked at #3 with a healthy run in the top 10. Fleur East, the rightful winner of X Factor 2014 *.*

Little Mix - Black Magic

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g297/Hitcruiser/Third/SeparationLine.png

Finishing things off with yet another X Factor alumni – they’ve been slaying the past couple of years *.* The best girlband since Spice Girls (soz GA/Sugababes), Little Mix hit their peak so far with this incredible pure pop stomper. With more than a hint of the 80s, and a video inspired by 90s cult classic The Craft, Black Magic serves us a throwback while remaining fresh at the same time. The melodies, production and lyrics are all on point and all in all this is just an incredibly fun pure pop song, and it was incredible to see a song like this smash so much!

So that’s it for our journey through the best of the last 10 years of pop for me, thanks for reading and commenting guys!
