Team Disturbed - The Sound of Silence All the way. SO SO good.

I so wish this was doing well right now, but it seems house songs are difficult to get into the top 40 now unless they feature a popular vocalist or are by a massive name.

OH MY GOD NO WAY. "The Sound Of Silence" is where HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND comes from?! My mates and I sing that all the time because of Vines, I had no idea it was this Disturbed song!

It's a cover of a song from the 60s by Simon & Garfunkel. Have the Vines using 'The Sound Of Silence' already updated to the Disturbed version?

It makes me a little sad that so many people don't know "The Sound of Silence" is a cover. It's a biased view as I love it so much but I feel like it's a song that everyone should know, and nobody else should get all the credit for

I don't dislike the Disturbed version though. It's not bad and I'll probably like it more the more I hear it. But the original is near perfect.

This performance of it from 2009 (45 years after they recorded it!!!) is EVERYTHING.

Still 10 for me.

is it combined you mean?

Oh yeah :o

Strange how this song in particular keeps stuttering and looking like its about to fall and then making a huge climb that seems hugely improbable by its form

It is the best reinterpretation cover I've heard in months. I'm normally very original-biased in that it's hard for me to like covers and the original song is wonderful in producing this but this cover is far more my sort of thing and the lead singer of Disturbed's voice just really elevates it for me. Seems fairly clear it is a cover to me (although I only learned that it was where 'hello darkness my old friend' came from when first listening to it).

Excellent to see it still climbing.

just checked wiki and looks like Disturbed had a top 40 hit in the UK in 2002, Prayer peaked at #31, they've also had a couple of top 75 songs and a couple of top 100s... two top 10 albums... far better in the US, five #1 albums!!!!

Certainly not as massive as House was throughout 2014 (especially the first half of the year). Seems to have moved from Disclosure style house to Kygo style house now...

Some golden oldies on iTunes today. All trickle sellers.

329 The Sweet - Ballroom Blitz

590 Gerry & The Pacemakers - You'll Never Walk Alone

609 Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up

As was said above about people not knowing The Sound of Silence - prob one of the most famous songs ever made lol

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's one of the most famous songs ever made, I could probably name 100 songs which are more famous. I don't think a casual music fan would know the original tbh, especially a young one.
