Very much agreed here, they've changed the format once (for One Direction) I seem to remember but they need to take a look at positions #20-#25 IMO & skip them instead if they're not new also.

Fortunately there has only been a handful of songs thus far (11 this year) to have peaked in the #26-#40 region so the majority do eventually climb into a playing position :)

poor Tiesto & Sir Oliver Heldens got missed out though because of this

You'd think with Friday now being New Music Friday they'd have changed the format to include full plays of all new entries, but no, because Radio 1 logic.

ridiculous that there could be seven new entries in this week's chart but none of them will get a full play on Radio 1. they really need to change their format :drama:

New entries or climbers from 40-21 followed by the top 20 seems like such an obvious format too.

I find the chart a complete bore now, I haven't listened to it in months and have no plans to start doing so, when I was super obsessed with them in 1999-2002 I used to feel so underwhelmed when there were less than 12 new entries a week! It's not Radio 1's fault of course (though tweaking the chart format slightly and expanding their playlist would help) but more the way that a lot of people that stream seem to take months on end to get over hit songs.

Spotify have a LOT of power in this respect though, if I was in charge of the playlists I'd immediately boot anything off the top hits playlist as soon as it left the top 20.

With the sad news of Prince passing away i expect Prince to be the number 1 album next week. He could possibly get some singles on the chart if people download and stream this evening.

Sadly I can't see Prince having a huge impact on the singles chart, due to the fact he removed all his music from Spotify a while back.

I'd say he could do a Bowie, just reversed, with a greatest hits getting their next week and maybe his new album the week after (if it can overcome Drake).

I did not know he had made such a move in relation to spotify. It is likely his various Greatest Hits packages is what will sell in the coming weeks.

I assume either 2001's The Very Best of Prince or 2006's Ultimate Prince will do best, then Purple Rain after that.

Ultimate Prince is the release i feel will sell the most in the coming weeks.

'The Very Best of Prince' seems most likely of the two, in regards to physicals at least. I see it more often than 'Ultimate Prince' in stores and it's already out of stock on Amazon, whilst 'Ultimate Prince' seems to only be available from third-party sellers on there.

Either that or "The Very Best Of Prince" which was his best performing compilation.

Very shocked about his passing, he was a Legend in my book, he was one of the most prolific of Artists and I suspect he had a lot of unreleased material which I'm sure which will be plundered by his Record company in the months and years to come.

The fact that there will be a full week of sales next week for his back catalogue will mean the best possible Chart impact. Wonder whether he may sneak into the lower reaches of the Album chart this week (let's face it Album sales are low at the moment even 6 hours of Sales may be enough)

Ultimate Prince and The Very Best Of doing pretty well. Sadly tidal is the only one with his back catalogue streaming wise so he's not going to do that well the singles charts
any update on Rihanna's positions?

Anti and/or any of the 3 singles?

'Work' at #11, 'Kiss It Better' is Top 60 and 'Needed Me' is Top 100. Anti is #21 and likely to be a climber this week.

Any change for 'Get Weird' from the Wednesday update?

Their position is in the update.

And Batman at #52

13 Prince Albums in iTunes Top 40 with 4 in the Top 5 (3 compilations and Purple Rain) suggests the impact is going to be huge
