June 24, 20169 yr Well my sister, who's an Electrical engineer, is furious and predicts a huge recession, house price rise, inflation, mortgage rate increase. All scaremongering. Won't happen. The Sterling has taken an unprecidented nose dive wiping off so much value from our GDP that we have Swapped places with France on the ranking of world economies. It's only been 3 hours since the final declaration. You're an idiot if you think that this is scaremongering. This is real consequences and we are already facing them
June 24, 20169 yr Cameron has announced his resignation. Great... I just hope we don't get that imbecile... Boris Johnson :manson:
June 24, 20169 yr British?! Scotland will leave the union (don't blame them!). There is no Britain to take back. Even if they do, it'll be years before they could get back into the EU on their own.
June 24, 20169 yr And that responds to Jesters actual point how? Britain as we know it is over. We're not going back to the good old days!!!1! we're going into darker days
June 24, 20169 yr Even if they do, it'll be years before they could get back into the EU on their own. No, it won't. Such breathtaking arrogance. Oh yes, everything will be fine. No changes! Silly me! La la la.
June 24, 20169 yr This morning I have to keep reminding myself that we are no longer part of what was an organisation I was always proud to be a part of, an organisation that, while it had its flaws, they were no more so than any particular British government and brought us a good deal of benefits that our own governments have been too selfish and short-sighted to grant us. And all because of a short-sighted decision made by one of those governments, the world thinks us an inwards-looking people, our economy is tanking and we're never going to get it back. I feel entirely sick, I don't want to be part of this country anymore if this is the decision it makes on such an important issue, built on lies and flashes of feeling. What's left of the UK just took a very strong step into the dark and everything will be changed FOREVER. It's completely f***ing shit.
June 24, 20169 yr It is frustrating to me that anyone can be happy over what's happened this morning, even people who dislike the EU. Sure, you got the "independence" and "freedom" you wanted, but can't you appreciate the cost at all? You've destroyed the United Kingdom and created a country so divided and in such a violent way. You've upset so many people, both British and otherwise, while making thousands of hard-working people feel unwelcome just because they didn't happen to be born here. And in exchange...? The people who voted to leave are still going to be unhappy and will eventually realise that the EU wasn't the source of their unhappiness. Unqualified people who left school early will still be clinically unemployed and a new scapegoat will be found for that eventually. Nobody is actually made happy by this. Leave voters might feel joy now but it's completely fake and won't last. Eventually things go back to being the same as ever (i.e. apparently shit) for them while the people who wanted to stay have lost their European citizenship and an economic collapse they have to actually interact with (it makes a difference if you actually had job prospects beforehand). Shameful selfishness defines the campaign. Disgusting country.

What's left of the UK just took a very strong step into the dark and everything will be changed FOREVER. It's completely f***ing shit. This is where I am too. It's just as much people's questionable motives, morals and reasoning for voting leave than the actual fact we've left that's upset me and made me feel so...sick.
June 24, 20169 yr No, it won't. Such breathtaking arrogance. Oh yes, everything will be fine. No changes! Silly me! La la la. I wasn't being arrogant, I was being practical - 1. It'll take at least 2 years for Britain to get out. 2. The Scots will have to call & win another independence referendum, then it'll take quite a while to finalise the withdrawal settlement 3. The procedure for a new country joining also takes several years. Even if 1 & 2 could take place concurrently, it would still not happen overnight.

Violent how? We chose to leave via the ballot box, not the gun. As for the 'cost' - ask any American if they think the Revolutionary War was a price worth paying for *their* freedom...
June 24, 20169 yr Still feel absolutely sick. Scotland did all they could to remain in Europe, hopefully we're invited back in and became independent very soon. I'm also expecting independenen from Northern Ireland. This country is f***ed. Never been so happy to be Scottish:

Division. Uncertainty.
June 24, 20169 yr Violent how? We chose to leave via the ballot box, not the gun. As for the 'cost' - ask any American if they think the Revolutionary War was a price worth paying for *their* freedom... That's not comparable. Britain is still a sovereign country, so it's not the same.
June 24, 20169 yr Violent how? We chose to leave via the ballot box, not the gun. As for the 'cost' - ask any American if they think the Revolutionary War was a price worth paying for *their* freedom... How is this comparable to the American Revolutionary War? There will be no United Kingdom left in a few years once Scotland/NI leave. Our economy is crashing. Jobs will be lost. Is this really "freedom"?
June 24, 20169 yr Violent how? We chose to leave via the ballot box, not the gun. As for the 'cost' - ask any American if they think the Revolutionary War was a price worth paying for *their* freedom... I didn't say the means of leaving was violent, I said the division was violent. You have essentially split the UK into people with the ability to think and relate to concepts beyond the scope of their own back yard and those willing to throw anyone under the bus for the illusion of improving their own situation. There is a reason there are so many people who are ashamed to be British this morning - people like you have confirmed that to be British is to be selfish (even failing to acknowledge Scotland's desperate wish to remain part of the EU) and to pay no thought whatsoever to the consequences of your decisions on other people ("Hooray, independence! What do you mean dozens of economies are impacted negatively by this?"). That's a pretty foul national identity and it's one 48% of Britain don't wish to associate with. I promise you that you will be no happier with the state of your country in a decade's time. Maybe then you'll realise your ignorance.

I wouldn't hold your breath if I were you. :teresa: As for the issue of 'breaking up the UK' - what else did the SNP call a referendum for, 2 years ago? I wish there was a like function for Umi's posts. Like the Mail Online has?

Oh you read the mail. What a non shock. The referendum 2 years ago was in a different political landscape. Things have significantly changed now.
June 24, 20169 yr I agree. Thinks have changed get drastically and I think it is only right for another Scottish Referendum to be called. I don't see why Scotland, Now of all times would reject independence and if it can be done before the next pm comes into power and the UK gives Europe Article 50 we might be able to remain a part of the EU.
