The 100m is always early in the programme. It allows athletes who are doubling up to get some rest before the 200m heats and leaves plenty of time before the relay.

I don't think Team GB will top the Medals table, last time it was on home soil with a lot of support and I don't think many medals will be won. I probably be watching it more of a filler this time, when there is nothing else to watch on TV, I supported London 2012 and watched most of the tournament back than. We probably walk away with a few golds, but it won't match 2012 tally.
Anything to break up monotony as otherwise people don't care about the majority of these sports. And most medals? A pissing contest.

Lizzie Armitstead has been cleared to compete in Rio.

Something tells me. We haven't heard the last of this. If she was Russian would she have been allowed to complete?

Christine Ohuruogu got a one-year ban for the same thing.

Why is it different for Lizzie Armitstead?

Hopefully all the events we see in Rio are clean. But how can we be sure?

We can't sadly. There'll always be that niggling feeling that undermines athletes' achievements now the spotlight has so firmly been placed on the topic in this whole saga.

Well it has kicked off with Sweden v South Africa in the women's football - Sweden leading 1-0 unsurprisingly - a great shame we couldn't put our differences aside for a Team GB entry as England came third in the recent World Cup. :(

Great Britain are the ONLY country to have won a gold medal at every single summer Olympics since its inception in 1896 (Tennis - Singles and Doubles, and the Weightlifting)! But the best gold of all-time still remains the City of London Police who won the Tug of War Gold in 1908. *.*

So it doesn't matter how much Russia or the USA cheat, they ain't never taking that record from us. *.*

Is anyone going to watch the opening ceremony on Friday night? it's gonna be a late one finishing at about 4 AM UK time.

Definitely. Never want to miss the opening ceremony.

Been watching bits of women's football today and Brazil vs China is looking quite good right now but of course football isn't the main reason I get so into the Olympics.

Brazil v China was good to watch. Could be a drubbing with Zimbabwe and Germany although after 20 minutes its goalless.

Surfing, baseball/softball, climbing, karate and skateboarding will be the five new sports confirmed for Tokyo 2020.

Men's football starts today. All the matches should on the Red Button for UK users.

What is the coverage like for the Olympics for posters outside the UK?

In the past I was always very excited about the Olympics.

I don't know how anyone feels about it this time but I myself am not really interested that much in the events. I don't know if it's something to do with my private life changes since 2012 or just the fact there were so many bad news about the Olympics and Rio this year. It lost a bit of shine. Anyone feels the same or is it just me?

It's just you. (as the next 2 or so weeks will prove)

Yeah I think I work too much and so I will not be able to enjoy the events so much as before

But I don't think the next 2 weeks will prove it.

But I guess the scandals with the Russians, the political problems of Brazil and that strange virus does not help the Olympics.

What I meant is that the Olympic Games will dominate the news worldwide almost every day for the next 2 weeks and it will be a hot topic of conversation for many people just like the games of 2012 were.

They would surely show highlights where you are wouldn't they?

Edited by Hazza Chapman

Yeah that's clear but I wasn't think of that :D Whatever ;)

Of course, I live in Germany, it's a big sport event for the Germans too.

But it's always better to follow the competitions live :D

Yeah that's true. I myself will miss a lot of the events live and will watch highlights but hopefully i'll get to see the track and field athletics live as that's my favourite part of the Olympics.
