One Dance has dropped out of the top 10 but it's still selling the same, roughly half of Kungs... it was actually selling lower a few weeks ago and his streaming advantage compensated for it

sure I remember some songs made it to #1 thanks to being reduced to 59p, i.e. Titanium
Are number one songs on iTunes allowed to be 59p?

Why not? :P

We will see more and more of the 59p effect as record companies look for different strategies- Dua, Calum and Jonas Blue all achieved a build up in streaming, low/stable chart positions and fan sales then all got a huge 59p boost due to people being familiar with the songs

 Imagine...once #1 you cannot be 59p.

I remember Paradise sitting at #1 when it was 59p for some reason!

Very true, I wonder how low it could eventually go...I guess could keep getting lower until we get to a point in time where music is never paid for :o :o :o

It's crazy what a 40p difference can do, but mentally you do think its a lot more worth it to buy!

I was debating whether or not to buy Perfect Strangers yesterday, then I noticed its 59p price tag and couldn't refuse!
Ah thanks - didn't think you could have a 59p at number 1!

But why? I don't understand. Positions have actually nothing to do with the price tag.

Lots of iTunes number 1s that were 59p climbed to number 1 when they were reduced. Actually all I think :kink:

On the other hand if a song is already number 1 it has no sense to reduce to 59p. Already the biggest seller and although they might win some more sales but the loss on marge would be bigger.

The 2nd and 5th largest contributions to purchases on iTunes today are from songs that are 59p. I said it last night, when it comes to chart money talks!

I'm sure Shawn Mendes was 59p to as well as Coldplay but they increased the price quickly when it was clear he would be #1 regardless.

I also think it makes people impulse buy the songs that they might otherwise have not - And because the 59p price not last for long people tend to get it straight away. I was already streaming Jonas, Dua and Shawn with no intention to purchase but bought them when they went down in price.

Haha I always check which songs are cheaper

Sometimes I wait for a song to get reduced before I buy it :heehee:

So I take it reducing to 59p after a few weeks is the replacement to held back release strategies. Well the record companies had to find a way..

I'm personally for it too if it means more songs entering the top ten
