Not gonna act like I can add anything constructive here but since we're on the issue of the framework, if anything I think the whole idea of the 'trifecta' needs revising as well as the demographics of BJSC that lead to the introduction of the Framework isn't as scandi/pop/scandipop influenced any more, plus Pitchfork and Popjustice aren't the big forces as once they were.

I definitely agree with this, I really feel that some blogs like those are given too much weight in comparison to their "power", similar to what Rob is saying about charting songs from like Finland.

I think maybe even a survey or someting could be done to see a sample of BJSC participants find and consume music? Then that could be added to fix the issues with the framework. It sounds like a lot of work for the mods so even a few of us could volunteer could do it maybe?

This was Bonbon's research:

Era Istrefi ~ Bonbon 3

- dnq in LXV 3

- 13m+ Youtube views

- josepvinaixa

- threads on gagadaily, ATRL, breathheavy & ukmix, otherwise it's mainly mp3 links on the first 10 pages of google results

- thread in the Pop forum posted by Addy, had no responses since the weekend (it was top 150 on iTunes)

It was no where near the veto zone but was one we were aware of.

On the framework - this will be quite a substantial overhaul. There things that we are finding are unintentionally harsh or things that are completely missing altogether. It's also going to be restructured to make it clearer how it all links together to make it a lot easier to work out your points.

That is possibly the least amount of points I ever got and it is jow regarded as my cheapest entry *.*

The irony of me agreeing with everything Rob is saying about the dichotomy of "racking up veto points vs how many people will actually discover the song" despite him being a key factor in a lot of the angst i've had with the contest. Songs get vetoed for the most random and useless of things even though no one will have heard them before but others get through despite having followings before the contest begins.

yeah i did the research on that one - i was concerned about its REAL WORLD presence but there was nothing on the framework to support it but 'leww heard this at a house party in manchester and a gay club l8r that evening' into the framework

This is (another :kink:) slight issue I have that I was trying to explain to Ryan. You *should* be able to say "oh this is big in real life so it should be vetoed" even if it doesn't marry up with the veto framework and conversely you should be able to say "even though this gets points for its EP being on a random blog and it charting in xxx country, it should still be allowed because hardly anyone in the contest will have heard it before". I think the mods have (perhaps understandably) become too rigid with using the framework and NOTHING ELSE to judge songs.

I find the fact Highasakite got vetoed last contest over a song top 50 on GLOBAL SPOTIFY absolutely ludicrous because it prevented a sensational song from being heard by everyone here in favour of something we'll all be hearing anyway. That is where my main gripes have come from and if i'd known about the appeal process last contest I would've have so done it but I guess it's too late now~

That is something we will seriously consider Liam.

The important thing to keep in mind about the framework is that as Leww mentioned earlier it's designed to sweep out those tracks that you don't know by name but recognise the second they start playing. So it'll still be very broad in places in order to hit those.

There are also sections of the framework that are there to act more as a deterrent, mainly the AV section granted.

From my point of view the trifecta still serve a useful purpose. They are still great sign posts to what is big in those three communities, but the sliding scale could probably do with a change.

I think the mods have (perhaps understandably) become too rigid with using the framework and NOTHING ELSE to judge songs.

Using our judgment was rather unpopular for a good while and after a particularly relentless and hostile wave of 'criticism' this became much much safer. (and better for staff moral)

I would love to add in a 12 point item that allows us to kill off things we know should be vetoed but the framework won't support. Haven't until now out of pure fear of the unholy backlash it would unleash.

Would an iTunes positions for a few days really be a reason to veto a song? Like obviously if it is top 10p for several days, I'd see it but for instance Bonbon peaked at #134 and fell down v quickly afterwards

On its own? No.

But it would be looked at, in context, to give us an idea of how known the song is and if it's starting to break through, as BonBon did end up doing.

To be honest I'm just basing my 'it's everywhere in real life' perception on equally meaningless things like hearing it going past Rajou's corner shop and getting down to it when things get a bit silly at pres a few times.

But I've never heard other BJSC entries in such situations. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Lmao the corner shop ahead of its time :')

Fair point. Altho would that mean a song that is on the verge of breaking through would also be loked at harsher? Or just ones that are just starting to break through

(I'm just trynna get a clear image for myself here, if it all cleared up in the next veto framework, I'll just wait till then ofc)

Personally I think I'd rather that the mods applied their own views to it and looked at things in context, like a mix ofthe old and the new, because the veto isn't foolproof as we've seen. But then the mods just get even more flack than usual as you've said so the shit the veto gets is preferable :P

I LEFT A COMMENT ON YOUR WALL AS YOUR INBOX WAS FULL!!

Please respond and reconfirm!!

it would be good if we could use the veto framework AND also our opinions in conjunction with each other, because the veto does catch quite a lot of the offenders then for the odd one or two we could say 'oh but wait a minute...' - would people give us flack for that?
