Yeah I feel as though some people send songs they think people will love but don't love themselves. obviously it's their choice but I wouldn't do that

The sweet spot is finding something you think will do well AND something you love, it's always such a good feeling so find that perfect entry even though when I thought I'd hit the jackpot with Topic it came last

Yes getting that is the best, although my taste is all sorts of randomness that people often don't agree with so that tactic doesn't really happen to me  although I have a couple which might, but might not all the same. So I just end up sending my potentials in order one by one :P

Oh that also reminds me I need to look for pottashes outside if dance in which should those do well that result would also come under the rewarding umbrella for me :funky:

Is YouTube views something you look at when discussing potential vetos?

And if the not too much trouble, can I have some feedback on Arigato? Just wondering what your views were regarding the fact most of Buzzjack probably hadn't heard it (it's been mentioned in two threads, this one being one of them).

Perhaps not if you look at Zombie :heehee: (soz Mattias)

Wait is that the W-FU song? That was a potential of mine.

side question: is this the longest confirmations thread ever???

I actually looked up this exact thing a bit earlier :magic:

It is the longest confirmation thread since the advent of PM confirmations (i.e. BJSC29 and on) - some of the earlier ones were longer but that was because everyone's entries were confirmed and discussed inside the confirmations thread, rather than via PM (or Google Form in the last few contests). Beaver breaking the records! *.* (even if these pages are not exactly the most pleasant things to read through (although I've seen worse - we need this top 50 BJSC controversies countdown more than ever!!1))

(I feel like I could copy and paste a post I made a couple of contests back the last time this 'send what you love' conversation came up :kink: but yes, always better to send a song you love than a song you don't love as much but think will do well - 'The Wandering Songstress' was one of the most rewarding entries I've ever sent because I sent it without having any idea how well it would do just because I absolutely adored it. The same also applies to my current entry but I don't see that doing quite as well :kink:)

If it's abnormally high, like 5 million+, then it gets mentioned and taken into account but otherwise no. I think anything too high could use maybe a 3 pointer but it's not something that I think should be majorly part of the framework as there are tons of songs from different countries that gets loads of views that Buzzjack will never hear. Latin and Far East music is especially good for examples of this.

On Arigato, it being a big hit in Norway and being on two of the trifecta to boot pretty much did it in, it was balancing finely on the auto-veto line, I'm not sure which side it officially landed on. Incidentally, I laughed so much at the hook, how is 'Thank you motherf***ers' supposed to have any sort of impact as a hook line, even in another language?!

Yeah I see you've got into indie rock and that could overlap with some others' tastes in the indie bloc and others like myself so that could work in your favour if you find a cool track you like like that :funky:

I was also wondering what the PERFECT BJSC song would be - like is there any specific genre that's sure fire to do well? Idk

the titti genre

Not wrong tbf considering yours and Tim's success rate that's pretty accurate *.*

I don't think so. Although the general dominant genre seems to be female pop there is still quite a broad level of genres. Pop, Dance, Rock, RnB and Indie have all won since I've been participating I think :o

Tbf the turnoverr in winners this year shows there is no specific genre that'll do well. I meam we went from a 8minute instrumental to a cheesy pop song to a more indie sounding pop song in the span of 3 contests
Oh I have been so irked in the past, with Stamp!, with Sonsick, with Megitsune  But with this one I'm mentally preparing myself (to not go on an unseemly rant) in case the worst happens, and if it qualifies, I'll be overjoyed. And when it comes down to it the dangers of losing a great entry to a tough semi are worth the risk that it will do well, better than not caring what happens to it.

To be fair you're right to be irked about Sonsick. Best Séyetana ever.

RnB :o You don't see that too much. What was that entry?

{oh and also my entry is rap so riskqué}

By the time you've figured that out it will have changed for the next contest.

(but certain types of inoffensive electro house or generic fempop always tend to have a good base much to my chagrin)

Successful genre's tend to come and go so it can be hard to predict. Usually when a certain style of song starts doing well, loads of people start entering songs of that genre.

I don't go hunting for hits mainly because the competition element is irrelevant to me.

Are we getting the Semi finals tonight? :o

There really isn't. From the five years I've been in this contest it has changed so frequently and I think the only country who has successfully managed to conquer the past and present is Aeroche! Even the mighty FSR Rontvia who was basically unstoppable has fallen to the victim of a run of DNQ's now :( From my vague memory back then when I joined, pure pop always conquered and the likes of Ricki-Lee's Raining Diamonds type of songs would be easy hits. It then changed to the indie phase (oh good god I'm thankfully that was over) where you have Woodkid's Run Boy Run type of song (the song itself is amazing btw) which then slowly changed into the dance/R&B phase and even now I can see it slowly fading away too into something else. Not to mention 2-3 years ago my Asian songs would constantly be in the top half of the scoreboard and now they just fall flat :(

Female chart-friendly dance-pop seems to be something that has always done well in BJSC, though of course many songs of that genre have flopped too.

No genre is safe really, you've just got to go with a song with wide appeal or strong niche appeal

RnB :o You don't see that too much. What was that entry?

That's why we need Aprogonia back with the $l*t jams

Are we getting the Semi finals tonight? :o

I don't think so, believe we're still waiting on replacement entries.

I think rock also has had a strong performance as of late. I was just lucky to get back-to-back top 10's with the scene punk formula at its peak :P
