July 4, 20169 yr Starships, which is surely a million seller by now (on sales alone). Maybe the OCC are holding out for another million seller to announce it with
July 4, 20169 yr I remember Radio 2 did a countdown after asking people to vote for their favourite #2 and 'Vienna' was the top song. I'm sure it was second place in the official charts to something really naff? Did 'LDN' REALLY get suggested? Indeed! I suppose it's probably more well-known than its chart performance suggests thanks to the advert it's on, but I wouldn't say it was a worthy mention for this thread!
July 4, 20169 yr 64-58-45-34-20-21-19-22-25-25-15-8-4-6-3-3-{2}-2-3-3-3-5-5-7-10-13-16-14-14-21-25-26-31-33-31-34-40-56-64-70-66-55-27-31-29-33-37-52-66-75-> 50 weeks NO!
July 4, 20169 yr Did 'LDN' REALLY get suggested? I was a bit wary posting that one. It just seems like everyone knows it as well as all the lyrics whenever it's on! Even my Gran knows it lol!
July 5, 20169 yr ^maybe a UK thing cos I've never ever heard the song and I kinda like Lilly Allen has Oasis - Wonderwall been mentioned? actually I kinda forgot it hadn't been #1, but that has to be one of the biggest and most remembered #2s ever and probably one that everybody assumes it was a #1
July 5, 20169 yr both good shouts. also does anyone know if Jonas Blue's version has outsold Tracy's yet? Vidcapper's thread puts Jonas on 900k, surely that must be higher than Tracy's total?
July 5, 20169 yr How did I forget Wonderwall?! The third best-selling non-number 1 ever! (after Last Christmas and Moves Like Jagger)
July 5, 20169 yr also does anyone know if Jonas Blue's version has outsold Tracy's yet? Vidcapper's thread puts Jonas on 900k, surely that must be higher than Tracy's total? Tracy Chapman is somewhere in the 950k-1m region I think.
July 5, 20169 yr Vienna was number 2 for four weeks. Woman by John Lennon beat it the first week (since he'd died two months earlier, his sales would've been increasing tenfold for weeks), and then Shaddup You Face beat it each of the other three weeks
July 5, 20169 yr Surprised no one has mentioned Madonna, eg Like a Virgin and Material Girl, most of the public think these were number ones/classics
July 6, 20169 yr was thinking there are a lot of rock indie classics some didn't even got close to #1... Nirvana -Smells like Teen Spirit, Radiohead - Creep, The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony, Pulp - Common People, Coldplay - Yellow some 80s-90s rock like Heart - Alone or even Metallica, Bon Jovi, White Stripes,... U2 have a lot of classics that missed #1, With or Without You, One, I Still Haven't Found..., Where The Streets Have no Name or REM - Losing my Religion, probably the biggest song with the lowest chart placing (#19)
