July 6, 20169 yr Blue Monday again. Anyway, it's all relative to what else was around at the time that kept it off the top. A song getting to number one doesn't make it any better or noteworthy.
July 9, 20169 yr In October 2013, the list looked like this: Position | Title | Artist | Sales | Highest Position 1 | I'M YOURS | JASON MRAZ | 732,111 | 11 2 | SET FIRE TO THE RAIN | ADELE | 663,508 | 11 3 | NUMB/ENCORE | JAY-Z & LINKIN PARK | 524,944 | 14 4 | EYE OF THE TIGER | SURVIVOR | 518,554 | 47 5 | MARRY YOU | BRUNO MARS | 510,205 | 11 6 | SKINNY LOVE | BIRDY | 506,747 | 17 7 | A THOUSAND YEARS | CHRISTINA PERRI | 501,764 | 11 8 | GOLD DUST | DJ FRESH | 488,882 | 22 9 | NEED YOU NOW | LADY ANTEBELLUM | 485,655 | 15 10 | HEY SOUL SISTER | TRAIN | 484,941 | 18 11 | SWEET CHILD O' MINE | GUNS N' ROSES | 465,128 | 56 I'm sure it's very different now what with streaming in the mix but does anyone have sales? Let It Go is top on around 1.1m, Radioactive around 900k
July 9, 20169 yr The Killers - Mr Brightside never made number one but this week it spends its 126th week in the top 100. That's got to be one of the biggest successes ever for a non-#1, and indeed it has sold more and is more of a classic than most number one singles.
July 9, 20169 yr How about Summer Of 69 by Bryan Adams, I'm sure that's sold 500k+ but only peaked at #42. All time fav of mine!

What is that list? Sweet Child of Mine peaked at number 6 in 1989. And The Eye of the Tiger peaked at number 1
July 9, 20169 yr I think the point is that Eye Of The Tiger and Sweet Child O Mine sold that amount in the digital era and neither made the top 40 in that era. The list seems to be the best selling songs to miss the top 10 in the digital era.

July 10, 20169 yr I'm very surprised this thread has gone on four pages without mention of the US country rock band Lonestar. Their song "Amazed" spent 17 weeks - virtually the whole summer of 2000 - inside the chart without getting any higher than its peak of #21. I'd say that's a big song cause it was #1 over in America and loads of people still have it for first dances at weddings and things like that.
July 10, 20169 yr I'm a bit late to this thread but I'm astounded that nobody has mentioned Queen. Firstly, their "Greatest Hits" Album is the biggest selling of All Time in the UK and it contains 5 songs that peaked at number 2 and most still get regular plays: "We Are The Champions" "We Will Rock You" (Biggest B-side of All-time) "Somebody To Love" "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" "Killer Queen"
July 10, 20169 yr Although I saw it listed as a number 1 earlier in the thread, I don't think it was and I'd go for Rule The World by Take That. Everyone can sing along (like it or not).
July 11, 20169 yr Definitely for Rule The World! Also: Daniel Powter - Bad Day Shakira - Whenever, Wherever La Roux - In For The Kill Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse - Valerie
July 11, 20169 yr Surprised at no one mentioning El Chombo's 'Chacarron' yet! Can't believe that only got to #20.

July 11, 20169 yr I'm more surprised YOU didn't mention it in the non-English singles thread :P I don't think it can be said to be in any language tbf.
