omg I just read this as well. What the hell is happening
Erdogan is out of the country as well, so it's the perfect oppurtunity for them (idk how to say it less positive)

Turkish state television channel TRT has been taken over by the military.

No twitter, facebook and youthbe either. They have been made inaccesable

I just hope they're not IS related or something. I know the chances are very slim for that, but with all these recent events, I can't help but worry about it anyway

the government have said they are still in power so a coup isn't the right word to describe, "those who are in this illegal act will pay the highest price"

i really really hope no more innocent people get injured. i'm so tired of this world :(

So is Turkey on lock down or something I dont understand what's going on

a military group have attempted to seize power

Of course the government is going to deny this and the military is going to say they have control.

As it is now they have blocked 2 birdges between the european and asian part, tanks and jets are everywhere, they put state TV on black, the airport is blocked and its flights are cancelled and social media is blocked

There are reports Turkey's top general has been taken hostage at the military HQ.

Worrying. Erdogan is probably one of the worst people leading a state right now but instability does no one any favours.

This is not NECESSARILY that bad a thing tbh. Last I heard their leader was a pretty bad guy.

I really hope this doesn't result in loads of deaths though of course...

Just saw the headlines on the news regarding this
Oh god, the world is a terrifying place rn :drama:
Mixed emotions on this :/ Turkey are obviously in need of a (more) democratic leader yet the proximity of IS to the area and the instability is worrying, especially as it's the gateway to Europe!
