I love Mel and Sue and I love cake. The world just won't be the same without them all. :(

Oh and Alan Carr would be dreadful, he'd be the wrong side of smutty. Plus he'd just balloon as he clearly doesn't have the metabolism for it.

rip bake off
Rumour has it that the BBC will not be insisting on a one year break, so we could get a full series next year (as long as Ch4 can find presenters and judges).
I'm very glad they've stepped down, they make Bake off wonderful and definitely don't deserve to be associated with the mess it will become!

Not Mel & Sue leaving Bake Off :( Disappointing that it's moving, but I guess the production company would be silly to turn down a deal worth £10m more than the BBC were offering.

Yeah I agree, I like Alan Carr on his chat show and stuff but I just don't think he'd work for Bake Off. I can't really think who would work, Mel & Sue are so synonymous with Bake Off and it's quite a specific sense of humour that could come across quite forced if new presenters tried to do it.

that's the thing. i would take the deal if I was them. but i wonder how they can offer so much when they don't really know what advertisers will actually offer because a change of channel will surely make advertisers wary of paying too much incase no one actually crosses over and watches. tho I guess maybe they know it will cover the costs and anything else is a bonus.

No Mel & Sue

The only other presenter I'd welcome would be Jo Brand, she is amazing on Extra Slice and has presented the Comic Relief specials and did well.

Rumours are Jo Brand has been approached already with a big money offer!

Anyway, very glad to see Mel & Sue jump ship. I think there's still a good chance Love Productions might do a u-turn. Surely there is a cooling off period in the contract that will allow it to be terminated? Channel 4 have come across really badly in this. They've basically paid a ridiculous amount of money for a basic inexpensive format without any of the previous onscreen talent (I highly doubt Mary & Paul will remain with the show). Like Top Gear, this will start with a decent-ish figure but down a lot on the previous highs and then plummet as everyone hates it.

It's been crazy to watch the rise of this show in the ratings and now how quickly it's all unravelled! The real winners in all this are ITV who will benefit from their main rival having lost its biggest show and their main commercial rival having bought a poisoned chalice. :(

Utter disgrace. As an Accountant i understand the pure financial motivations here but this shows a complete and utter lack of business sense and basically is just pure incompetence by Love Productions. There is so many intangible aspects of the GBBO experience that have made it what it is today that are wholly reliant on it airing on BBC. It's lack of commercials and no product placement being stand outs.

They've chased a bigger pay day here without even remotely considering 1) what it is that has made the brand so valuable and 2) the effect on the brand of the change.

Given the backlash they're getting C4 must be having some serious buyers remorse.

Even though Channel 4 is the next best option to the BBC, it is such a terrible decision to launch with a Stand Up to Cancer celebrity special. The celebrity specials have been a nice edition but they don't showcase what the show is about and it means that all the interest of the move will go into that rather than the actual 'normal' series.

This has all been a massive error of judgement. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Hopefully this doesn't end up like Big Brother did when it move to C5, where C4 just use the celeb and give 0 f***s about the normal one, the celebrity one is nice once a year but I agree if that's going to be the first thing they show then all the hype of the move and the relaunch is going to be absorbed by that and when the real series comes I fear it'll have a more muted reception.
Channel 4 have reportedly commissioned 40 hours yes 40!!! hours of Bake Off and its various spin-offs to air each year!

I really can't see Mary and Paul doing it. It's bad enough already. M&S intro the show every week, even when one of them is missing it feels weird. They might have the same music and tent but it'll just feel wrong now. Also, with adverts it'll have to be 20 minutes shorter so we'll lose some of the depth and detail.

Davina to host?

I fear being on C4 we will get things like double eliminations, public votes, constructed drama etc.

I'm privately thrilled about this because I've never understood the insane hype Bake Off creates when it is on, so if this means that this is the beginning of the end then that delights me! :heehee:
