I wish Radio 1 would play this underrated recent Christmas song, it's one of my favourites yet you never hear it on the radio.

Released in 2010, though I only first heard it a few years later!

From the BBC Media Pack:

From Monday 5 December, Radio 1 will have its Christmas hat on and will be broadcasting a selection of Christmas mixes every day until Friday 23 December. From 5-18 December there will be party mixes, and from 19 December there will be Christmas songs all the way up to 23 December.

The festive mixes such as ‘Christmas Lights Switch One’ will be broadcast every morning (9.45-10.15am), weekday afternoons (3.45-4.15pm) and weekend afternoons (2.45-3.15pm), warming listeners up for their Christmas celebrations.

When this was released radio 2 only playlisted it radio 1 seemed to only give them one era worth of support. Think radio 2 still give it a few spins every year!

Friendly reminder that the Christmas Mixes start tomorrow. They are like the Summer Mixes, only with a different name! Timings are the same as the Summer Mixes so you will hear them from 9:45am-10:15am and 3:45pm-4:15pm weekdays and 2:45pm-3:15pm on weekends.

They should make these Christmas mixes half 3 to 4 on weekdays so it doesn't interfere with the chart

Yeah thats the way it has always been TMD 24. They ramp it 1 xmas song first week...2 songs week after then 3 songs xmas week

Yeh that's the policy, sounds right too, think of it like the playlist - in the first week they are C listed, week two B listed then full support in the third week and from the 20th onwards they play a song every half hour while by Xmas eve/day they play Xmas songs all day!

Listening to R1 yesterday and they played Step Into Christmas by Elton John :o I know there is a lack of currrent Christmas themed songs around in 21st century but didnt realise it was so bad that R1 have to break their policy about not playing old songs!

The policy doesn't apply to Xmas songs it seems. They also play Bing Cosby, Andy Williams & Perry Como in December and they are even older!

I think I've heard them play 'Santa Baby' too last year, not the Kylie Minogue version either the original from 1953. They always seem to play the classics as that's what the people want.
Yeh and I've heard them play Great Big Sled by The Killers, Leona and Kelly Clarkson in recent years too!

Bit late for Lost Boy isn't it? It was TOTD earlier this year so I'm surprised it's took them this long to start really supporting this...

The first 2 weeks are party songs while the last week is fully Christmas songs. :)

I actually liked that mix! A few questionable choices but I'll take throwbacks like Love Don't Cost A Thing, Lights On, and Bright Lights Bigger City over Christmas songs even in December :P
