Tell me about it! It's so annoying having a bright light flashing in the corner of your eye when you're trying to watch a film at a cinema and today it must have happened about every 10-20 mins. Most of those people had their phones on silent but there was a guy on my left who was speaking on the phone at times and he was main person responsible for the continuous bright light in the corner of my eye :drama:

It was OK 7/10 being generous because my childhood/teen hero supergroup are finally on the big screen. Zack Snyder needs to move on though, enough is enough of his fairly friction-based superheroes punching a lot.

Nice to see Lois Lane, Spiderman's editor as Commish Gordon, Terminator's dead future-chip man not getting killed for a change. The heroes? Superman and Wonder Woman are so right. Batman does not, and never has, meet challenges blasting superguns left right and centre. You dont need a bat costume for that and that goes against the whole ethos of the character, just SO wrong - and he's been around for 80 years!!

 

 

Cyborg, although it's an annoying angry-young-black-man cliche these days, is at least consistent with the comic character from the 80's (though he's a New Teen Titan not a JLA character for me), albeit suped-up. Aquaman looks very right in the part, but the dialogue was awful for the comic book moral cool King Of Atlantis. This was a juvenile, albeit fab suped-up powered, walking cliche from every schlock action movie. The Flash was unrecognisable as Barry Allen. Grant Gustin does a great job on TV, should have just moved him over, instead we have a wise-cracking insecure genius Jewish kid cliche. Not even close to the comic version.

 

So, room for improvement if they dump Snyder. Not as good as Wonder Woman, better than Supes V Bats.

Batman started out as a gun-toting vigilante who was not shy of killing with a gun or other methods (neck breaking, even hanging!) and whilst it has become accepted as canon that he doesn't use them a significant number of writers have simultaneously embraced and broken that rule or simply ignored it. Batman: Year Two even has him use the same weapon that killed his parents as he attempts to take down The Reaper. Whether or not you prefer him without guns (and I agree it's the preferred ideology) it's unfair to treat Zack Snyder's take as unique. He's included an in-universe explanation, and the reaction to him using them probably says more about society's opinion on gun usage than Batman and his history (but that's a whole different conversation - not the batman we need but the batman we deserve etc). I don't recall any complaints when the bat-fans accepted favourite screen Batman, Michael Keaton, was burning villains alive, strapping bombs to them or using the 2 machine guns on his Batmobile in the late 80s.

Yeah my fave Batman was Adam West, oops! The classic Batman for me is 90's Batman Adventures animated and the more cerebral detective versions in the comic decades leading up to that. A gun-toting vigilante is just wrong (to me), though you are right it is in tune with current violence-obsessed adult arty male-aimed comics that wouldn't in any way get sold to children in newspaper and supermarket stores the way they were when comics sold multi-millions rather than barely tens of thousands to hardcore fans. So why not have all of the Justice League have massive guns and just shoot everyone super-fast - winner being those with the biggest guns? Because that makes a dull plotline and superheroes just the same as any action movie gun-toting redneck. The attraction of super-heroes is that they have moral codes and have to use their powers in ways to reduce death tolls, moral dilemmas, and plot twists resulting from them. Batman shooting over a huge building to fall on an apartment building is a Batman who err, has very fluid morality if it suits (even if he is distracting flying hellmouth corpses for his buddies) :lol:

 

My criticism of Zack Synder is that his films come over as angst-ridden extended fight-scenes on the whole. The best scenes in this one were the smaller ones, between Lois and Mrs Kent for example. More plot and plotting, better dialogue would help change my mind. As I say a good 7/10 though.

 

Definitely being a bit harshly reviewed by critics in my opinion. Marvel are definitely leagues ahead in quality films at this stage but I still massively enjoyed the action and most of the characters too. Wonder Woman is the real star and she completely draws your attention to her in any group scene but I liked Superman a lot in this too and Aquaman was my favourite new character (The lasso of truth gag was probably my favourite one in the entire film. Mera looked really cool too so I'm excited for his solo film even more now).

 

The plot is thin and some of the dialogue utterly dreadful ("you smell nice" delivered dead seriously by Lois made me cackle) but there are loads of fun moments and action scenes to make it a decent watch.

OH yes Kevin Conroy is Fab! Julie Newmar is a childhood goddess too :) I'm still traumatised from the episode when she let go of a rope dangling in a pit (and apparently fell to her death - I was still naive and very young!) :lol:

 

This was a pretty great film. Not as excellent as Spiderman Homecoming and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, but a bit close. My favourite parts were the storytelling involving the Mother Boxes and how the Atlantians, Amazonians and humans hid them from Steppenwolf and the final battle near the end. One small complaint I have was the overuse of slow motion scenes, some of them were pretty awesome though.

Just watched this today and I thought it was OK. Reviews seem a bit harsh once again.

My main flaws with it are it could probably have benefited from being a tad longer to help develop the newer characters and some of the re-shoots are obvious and a bit jarring at times (and Cavill's moustache CGI wasn't as bad as I'd heard but was a bit weird). Additionally some of the humour is terrible but mainly the witty one liners (which are particularly detrimental to Aquaman). I'd prefer Bruce Wayne's ageing body to have been dealt with in a more thoughtful way and Steppenwolf needs more development - Darkseid gets one flippant mention that most will miss. With all the brief references to Flashpoint, Green Lantern, and tons of clunky exposition regarding Atlantis it just feels like there's too much crammed in for anything to breathe properly.

If Snyder does have a 3 hour cut I'd be intrigued to see it.

Yes, if that's accurate then a great movie has been spoiled as it addresses a lot of my criticisms, adds much more human interest and morality, character backdrop, throws in guilt as a motivating force and no doubt a lot of better dialogue.

 

Should have given the whole script to Joss Whedon in the first place, nobody does character, plot and humour better....

Rumour has it there is a planned solo Batman movie for 2020, Ben Afleck has reported no longer reprising his Batman role in the next Justice League movie, names going forward Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Ben.

 

Superman: Man of Steel 2 not going to happen for some time yet, DC are just concentrating on the Flashpoint, Cyborg and Aquamen movies, with a possibility

I can't comment on the treatment as I never read Marvel, but his TV series and movies are a cut above - Avengers is juggling a lot of characters, villains and plot structure and is the template on how to do ensemble super-heroes properly. Buffy, Angel, Firefly all have the ability to go from dark drama to smart one-liners, musicals to horror, sitcom to dialogue-free visuals, and to make you genuinely care for characters, both the good ones and the bad ones. In a movie, there isn't that freedom to have such a vast canvas, but the structure is usually flawless (given the studio constraints on what they allow and what the franchise-holders will allow).
