First of two Alan Walker tracks in the Top 20, he's had a huge year being one of the most notable breakthrough producers with 'Faded' and the follow-up 'Sing Me To Sleep', which is in a similar style but different enough for me to get on board with it again. It became one of the most underrated tracks of the year too as it entered the UK chart at #95 and then was never seen again. It at least got over 100m streams on both YouTube and Spotify. Walker has a great unique production style and proves that a low BPM can really work for a dance track, and if 'Alone' is anything to go by he looks set to have a great 2017 as well. We'll see him again shortly..

(also let me point out that brilliant chart run, 7 weeks at #4 and 4 weeks at #7 *_*)

Commentary

This was the song that got Danaelanda its first top 3 finish in BJSC and is still our most successful song to date. It's got a lot going in it and it's all amazing. The orchestral intro, standout melody, pan flute section, the vocal breakdown... it's near-perfection in a song really, expertly produced and structured and the song that really made me take interest in TheFatRat, and vocalist Laura Brehm too to a lesser extent. The pair released a follow-up after this which did even better in my charts though, more on that later..

Hey Dan, my top 40 faves so far are:

Alone - wow, yeah, this would have been huge in BJSC, it's like a more commercial version of Emoji

Aber - Now this was a great entry, I'd heard it before you sent it and thought it was fantastic! Didn't deserve to DNQ for you

Sing Me To Sleep - just glorious, that drop is everything

Monody - see above, just beautiful

Crazy For You was a very unique sounding dance song, I've never heard wobbly synths quite like those!

I never really got into The Ocean, just nothing particular exciting about it. Much prefer Inside The Lines, more upbeat.

Work is a tune of life tho :music: great how long that stayed in the charts for.

Sing Me To Sleep is marvellous, far superior to Faded IMO. Also really loving Alone now too, I want an album!

Lastly well done with the success of Monody. It wasn't my fave of your entries last year but it stood out very well & it's definitely something I'll be returning to.

Mike Posner got himself a surprise hit early last year with 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza' spending four weeks at #1 in the UK. I also like to think of this as an honorary #1 for Avicii as he was the inspiration behind the song. Anyway it's a well written song about how Mike is living life as a forgotten popstar but it's the SeeB remix that really does it for me (and most people), they've really shown themselves to be great this year after seemingly coming from nowhere with this remix. More on them later as 'Breathe' is yet to feature.

This one I loved instantly when it was a BJSC entry but kept on growing after giving it another chance and eventually made my top 10. Sadly it didn't take off in the UK in a similar way but it was a huge Eastern European hit. The production is so upbeat, and reminiscent of the kind of eurodance that was smashing years ago. Despite it not being on trend (which is why the UK didn't give it a chance  ) it sounds very fresh. Imany has quite a nice voice but once again it is the remix that takes all the credit here, the original version is boring.

This really should be in the top 10 but unfortunately the cut-off date was the week this song finally left the top 5. It's definitely one of my big faves of the second half of the year. From the moment I first listened to this properly I had a good feeling it would be a future number one in my chart, and it did get there of course spending five weeks at #1, which would've been ten if Calvin's 'My Way' never got released - very impressive. It has such an insane and unique drop, in fact everything about this is amazing - even the sampled Charlie Puth vocals, and I hate Charlie Puth! Unsurprisingly this got a lot of Radio 1 airplay and it even made the UK top 40 for a few weeks although peaking criminally low (#29!). I really want another song from him now, it's been a while - though we at least got a few remixes in the meantime.

This was lucky enough to be my EOY #10 last year as it wasn't based on points, otherwise it would have been far lower. Anyway, from this year's points it makes another appearance this time at #14, helped by it having the first five weeks of the tracking period at number one, and in total got eleven number one weeks (one week behind the record jointly shared by 'Waiting For Love' and 'This Girl'). This is by far Sigala's best song anyway, it's a proper 11/10 moment of a song and one of my favourites of the decade. I was so glad that this had great longevity on the UK chart as well, I think it finished in the UK EOY top 100. It's also one of a few on this countdown to be a Danaelandan "million seller".

Monody BANGS SO HARD :music: It really hit me in like, May, and I still spin it sometimes. Definitely one of MrSuicideSheep's best picks for me (I'm not a FatRat fan so that's the only thing I associate Monody with lol)
Charlie Puth slaying here *.* :kink: Trouble is pretty great for a song of its kind, it's a shame it never took off more on streaming because it deserved a better run than it got in the official top 40.

Yeah 2 fantastic remixes there that really are in a different league to their original counterparts. Fantastic to see Imany as high as #16, not too far off from where she is in my list!

I did tire of Trouble pretty quickly & don't really return to it much now, it did make the top 10 in my Chart however.

Very impressive performance from Sweet Lovin'! A slam dunk tune it is

HUGE DANNY *.* his two singles this year really delivered
indeed, he's on top of his game right now.

I think there's an element of stubbornness to it really - I've seen that Joel Adams has turned down like 14 major label record deals in the past year  just keen to show how an independent label can get a song to go viral or whatever, ignoring how they could've made even more impact (and money) by simply sending the song to radio
maybe he wants more creative control of his output, or just doesn't like major labels

• yep, I was never huge on 'Emoji' but 'Alone' is absolutely brilliant.

• I think I just got unlucky, but it's one of my faves so at least I don't regret sending it.

• It has such a good drop!!

• Good to see you were a big fan of this~

Crazy For You was a very unique sounding dance song, I've never heard wobbly synths quite like those!

• It's really good, love how they've got their unique sound out there

• The Ocean is a lot better imo, the follow-up just seems like a half arsed attempt to remake it and doesn't sell itself as much

• Was great seeing 'Work' be such a big chart hit

• 'Faded' has the edge here, though they may as well be as good as each other really. 'Alone' is sounding brilliant right now also.

• 'Monody' being so well received wasn't something I quite expected, I honestly expected lower end of the top 10 at best.

Sing Me To Sleep is a great track, I have to say I do prefer Faded though :)
Faded is yet to come here so stay tuned~

Monody BANGS SO HARD :music: It really hit me in like, May, and I still spin it sometimes. Definitely one of MrSuicideSheep's best picks for me (I'm not a FatRat fan so that's the only thing I associate Monody with lol)
MrSuicideSheep does pick out some great tunes, though you should hear some of TheFatRat's other songs, they're great!!

Charlie Puth slaying here *.* :kink: Trouble is pretty great for a song of its kind, it's a shame it never took off more on streaming because it deserved a better run than it got in the official top 40.
What's a Charlie Puth? but yeah I was quite disappointed with where it eventually peaked, I thought it could've been a top 20 hit.

Yeah 2 fantastic remixes there that really are in a different league to their original counterparts. Fantastic to see Imany as high as #16, not too far off from where she is in my list!

Very impressive performance from Sweet Lovin'! A slam dunk tune it is

• Imany is one that doesn't get old really hence the long run in my full chart, such a brilliant song.

• 'Trouble' is still a proper banger for me, it's really had a mammoth chart run and it's still in my Top 25.

• 'Sweet Lovin' is absolutely brilliant  Definitely deserves that long chart run I gave it.

thanks guys~ :D :jump:

Aluna's final entry is by far her biggest in this chart, and it also helps that it was a real slow burner of a hit. I remember (:basil:) hearing this on Radio 1 thinking, wow this one may be even better than 'I'm In Control' which I definitely wasn't expecting, but as it turns out they had really improved for their second era. Aluna's sweet vocals reminiscing about when she first met her lover and how she wants to relive the experience are complimented really well with the future bass backing, helped by Flume who co-produced the song. As a "dance ballad" it really works, and its emotional value doesn't diminish on repeated listens either. How I would have loved for this to have done something in the charts, but as I've come to realise many of the best songs don't get their chance to become commercial hits.

Great song, definitely my fave of theirs of now just ahead of Attracting Flies, should have been the hit instead of I'm In Control.

A quarter of the top 12 are made up of Danaelandan BJSC entries, and this happens to be the third-highest of the year. Belgian DJ Mickey's 'It's My Man' is a brilliant house anthem equipped with diva vocals (no idea who the vocalist is though) and striking piano, very much one reminiscent of the 90's but sounds very much like a current hit. Not much to say about this other than what a banger!! This is how I love my house music.

Love the uplifting retro vibes of Trouble and Sweet Lovin' particularly, sound like the sort of lively dance songs that became hits in about 2006.
John Gibbons gave us a great tune with 'Your Love', but he'd eventually come back even stronger with his cover version of Charles & Eddie's 'Would I Lie To You' which would go on to be a Top 40 Spotify and official top 75 hit. It was a very nice surprise that sample-heavy house bangers like these can still do reasonably well, takes me back to 2006 with the structure really although the production is up to date. I did instantly love it but then it suddenly grew on me even more, spending seven weeks in the top 10. I never get tired of a full-on house banger though so this was always going to do well in my chart. Let's not speak further about David Guetta's take on the song though...

Yes it is very mid 00s, and I really liked it, and hopefully it making top 75 shows that more uplifting dance like this could come back in 2017. We are due a 00s dance revival now imo.

Insert yet another 'bangin' house tune' comment here. This one's very funky too though.

Just heard this...really good...instrumental wise a bit like the 'Morjac Theme' track you posted on the 00s dance number 1s thread.
