Do It Right, another amazing single by Solveig! There's something infectious about his music!

It's seriously good, I've been very impressed with his songs recently. Although 'Places' is a bit of a letdown from 'Do It Right'.

I think I'm the only one here who prefers 'The Calling', but it really is definitely my favourite of his.

'Bonbon' is just brilliant, I was disappointed the English version never got pushed.

We'll just have to find out what my opinion is soon.. :P

Commentary

 

MK and Becky Hill are both amazing in their respective areas of music, so when they got together for a house anthem I was definitely going to love it, and it's now my favourite MK song, beating his amazing 'Look Right Through' remix which I thought he'd never top. It's effortlessly produced and all six minutes of it are absolutely brilliant (there was a radio edit yes, but I prefer the full version). Becky has such a great voice as usual but it particularly stands out here, very much fitting the lyrical theme of getting over a break-up. It's also the second time she is the guest vocalist on an EOY #2, following 'Gecko (Overdrive)' being the #2 song of 2014. This song isn't even close to being my favourite song of the year though, that was always going to go to one song in particular...

Commentary

 

It's hard trying to pretend there's an unpredictable battle for the EOY #1 when this is by far my favourite of the year. I even like it MORE than last year's EOY #1 ('Waiting For Love' by Avicii, so that's saying something). Everything about this song is just amazing though, it is fully deserving of taking the EOY crown. Initially climbing into the top 10 as a result of its appearance in BJSC (although I did like and chart the song even before then), it seemed like #9 would remain its peak for a while. However following the UK release of the song it rapidly grew on me again and ended up spending 12 weeks at #1, a joint record with 'Waiting For Love'.

 

It was a real summer anthem and very big on the charts and the radio which really helped it, and I'm still amazed that it was such a huge chart hit because it's such a standout unique song. Credit has to be given for Cookin' On 3 Burners for writing the song originally in 2009 but it is of course Kungs' reworking that really gives it the extra energy it needs. The trumpet breakdown may well be based on one single note but it works so well and gets me bopping every time. It has a very interesting chord progression and the sound overall is very refreshing for dance music in 2016 (even the retro-sounding vocals). Shame is all Kungs future releases will be held up to this impossibly high standard, and sadly he seems destined to have no future hits, but this is a proper 11/10 tune of life.

This Girl did better in the UK than pretty much everywhere else, right? That was cool to see, even with it being stuck at #2. I'm very surprised to like it as much as I do, it's just that irresistible I guess! It stood out so much on the radio over here :wub:

It went to #1 in Belgium, France, Germany and others so not exactly. :P Was good to see it made the US top 40 also although it wasn't as big as it should've been.

Oop didn't actually comment on the winner, fantastic stuff - one of the few big dance hits from a previously unknown producer last year, shame they're so rare nowadays but at least the odd few escape through the net.

 

A solid runner-up too, great Countdown as per!
