Points Charts

I compile my points chart weekly, using a system of 50 points for #1, 45 points for #2, 40 for #3, 38 for #4, then 36 for #5 right down to 1 for #40. This is NOT my final EOY chart, just an indicator that helps me compile my official one! It can vary a lot from the final chart, or not vary at all, but the main reason I don't use it is that newer songs do not get a good enough chance to build up points, so Louisa Johnson's So Good for example does not feature in my top 40 here.

SINGLES (position - points - artist - title - [peak])

01 871 Frans - If I Were Sorry [01]

02 744 Joel Adams - Please Don't Go [01]

03 684 Shawn Mendes - Stitches [01]

04 523 Ryan Lawrie - If Only [01]

05 496 Fifth Harmony feat. Ty Dolla $ign - Work from Home [01]

06 488 Tom Odell - Magnetised [01]

07 474 Troye Sivan - YOUTH [02]

08 465 Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better [01]

09 457 Ariana Grande feat. Nicki Minaj - Side To Side [01]

10 445 Major Lazer feat. Nyla & Fuse ODG - Light It Up [05]

11 436 All Saints - One Strike [03]

12 418 Clean Bandit feat. Louisa Johnson - Tears [01]

13 410 One Direction - History [02]

14 396 Maty Noyes - In My Mind [01]

15 395 Little Mix feat. Jason Derulo - Secret Love Song [01]

16 394 Meghan Trainor - NO [03]

17 394 The Tide - Young Love [02]

18 386 Major Lazer feat. Justin Bieber & MØ - Cold Water [01]

20 384 Shawn Mendes - Mercy [05]

21 373 Benjamin - Body [03]

22 373 Fifth Harmony feat. Fetty Wap - All In My Head (Flex) [01]

23 366 Jesper Jenset - High [02]

24 353 Hailee Steinfeld & Grey feat. Zedd - Starving [03]

27 341 Delta Goodrem - Dear Life [01]

28 339 Frans - Young Like Us [01]

29 339 The Tide - Click My Fingers [01]

30 334 Charlie Puth feat. Selena Gomez - We Don't Talk Anymore [01]

31 330 The Vamps - Rest Your Love [01]

32 330 Ariana Grande - Into You [03]

33 324 Zara Larsson - Lush Life [05]

34 314 Benjamin feat. Sweet California - Man On the Moon [03]

35 308 Cheat Codes & Dante Klein - Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On) [01]

36 302 The Vamps feat. Omi - I Found a Girl [01]

37 296 Delta Goodrem feat. Gizzle - Enough [01]

38 295 Tinie Tempah feat. Zara Larsson - Girls Like [08]

39 293 Lukas Graham - 7 Years [02]

40 289 The Vamps & Matoma - All Night [01]

Last year's points chart #1, Trouble by Iggy Azalea, got 808 points so Frans has achieved a higher total than that! Iggy only finished at #4 in the end though, so will Frans fall at the final hurdle?

2016 ALBUMS (position - [overall albums position] - points - artist - title - [peak])

01 [02] 886 Benjamin - Fingerprints [01]

02 [04] 483 All Saints - Red Flag [01]

03 [05] 456 Tom Odell - Wrong Crowd [01]

04 [07] 446 Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman [01]

05 [08] 408 Charlie Puth - Nine Track Mind [01]

06 [10] 326 Fifth Harmony - 7/27 [01]

07 [11] 325 Shawn Mendes - Illuminate [01]

08 [13] 313 Britney Spears - Glory [01]

09 [15] 272 Delta Goodrem - Wings of the Wild [01]

10 [16] 257 Isac Elliot - A Little More - EP [01]

PRE-2016 ALBUMS (position - [overall albums position] - points - artist - title - [peak])

01 [01] 1239 Troye Sivan - Blue Neighbourhood [01]

02 [03] 562 The Vamps - Wake Up [01]

03 [06] 453 Shawn Mendes - Handwritten [01]

04 [09] 389 Justin Bieber - Purpose [01]

05 [12] 316 Britney Spears - The Singles Collection [01]

06 [14] 300 One Direction - Made In the AM [01]

07 [18] 178 Little Mix - Get Weird [02]

08 [19] 166 Ellie Goulding - Delirium [01]

09 [20] 161 Conrad Sewell - All I Know - EP [03]

10 [25] 124 5 Seconds of Summer - Sounds Good Feels Good [01]

As you can see, the 2016 albums chart has 9 of the exact same albums as the official one had, with Britney being the notable difference as Glory is 6 places lower, but remember both Glory and Illuminate are newer than those above it so have had less time to collect points! The only difference is that Isac Elliot's EP has crept in instead of Little Mix, who are 21st out of 2016 albums only and 35th overall.

In the pre-2016 albums chart, Troye is the clear leader, setting a record total for the points chart #1. Blue Neighbourhood was my #1 album of last year, and it came right at the very end, so no surprise to see it dominating this year! A lot more on Troye still to come throughout the rest of this countdown.

NEXT: the top 250 singles countdown begins!

Thanks Harry, glad you like both albums! Femme Fatale is solid albeit a tad distant from her, and Britney Jean kinda takes the piss despite having some fab songs as it's not really a Britney album Lol

241 Kate Nash - My Little Alien - 18-27-… (2+ weeks)

242 Jacob Whitesides - Lovesick - 17-30-X (2 weeks)

243 Trevor Moran - I Wanna Fly - 17-24-X (2 weeks)

244 Marcus & Martinus - Elektrisk (feat. Katastrofe) - 12-30-X (2 weeks)

245 Smilo - Young Again - 25-40-X (2 weeks)

246 Dakota - Long Hot Summer - 18-35-X (2 weeks)

247 Zedd & Kesha - True Colors - 19-29-X (2 weeks)

248 IVAN - Help You Fly - 40-20-X (2 weeks)

249 Hilary Duff - Little Lies - 16-28-X (2 weeks)

250 Conor Coughlan - Sun Don't Shine - 14-35-X (2 weeks)

Kicking things off with a bunch of two-week wonders! Most of these songs probably aren't of interest to the majority of you guys but I'll talk about them anyway. Kicking off the top 250 is Conor Coughlan, a British singer/songwriter. Sun Don't Shine is a nice acoustic track, but the thing that still bothers me now is his singing accent - it's possibly the weirdest one I've ever heard? Just above it is the TRASHIEST song of the year, courtesy of Hilary Duff. Little Lies is a cover of the Fleetwood Mac song, with Hilary's vocals over quite a basic dubstep-influenced backing track. It's all part of its weird charm though! IVAN's Help You Fly is the lowest of NINE Eurovision-related songs in this year's countdown, it's another one that I have varying opinions of really but I generally like it I'd say.

Moving on up again we have Zedd & Kesha's collaboration True Colors. I expect this wouldn't have gotten any higher if it wasn't the first new music from Kesha in a long time, it's great to hear her voice again but the track isn't the strongest for either. Zedd has a much stronger song still to come! Also with a better song still to come is Dakota, whose debut solo single ends up at #246. EDM influenced 'boyband' Smilo are at #245 with Young Again, a decent track but nowhere near as good as Melodifestivalen entry Weight of the World, which is much higher!

From one BJSC entry to another - Marcus & Martinus are at #244 with the weirdly great Elektrisk. Trevor Moran appears twice in this countdown, first with I Wanna Fly, and later on with #1 hit Let's Roll. Neither song has held up as well as I expected them to when I discovered them in the first week of 2016, I must admit! Jacob Whitesides is someone who generally has yet to capture my imagination but Lovesick was a good effort. Finally, Kate Nash has two songs in this countdown with the first at #241. Neither song lives up to the heights she reached in 2007 with the Made of Bricks album but nonetheless, My Little Alien is a fun little track.

Recommendation

from what I know, the Dakota song is lovely although we can both agree 'Fast Car' is better! Not big on that Zedd song, Kesha's vocal is nice but the song falls flat for me it doesn't really go anywhere.

The thought of Hillary Duff covering 'Little Lies' with cheap dubstep-lite production is very offputting  fortunately I don't have to listen to it. :P

Quite liked that Smilo BJSC entry, though not enough to chart it.

My thoughts exactly on both Dakota and True Colors! I'm glad we got something new from Kesha this year but ultimately it's one of Zedd's weaker efforts for me :(

 I'm not sure it'd be your thing tbh, Hilary can make some great pop songs but this one is a total mess (albeit a hot one) :')

Thanks Dan! :D

Just read through what you've posted so far and it's great! Haven't heard any songs from 250-241 except for True Colors which I briefly played on iTunes once.

I couldn't ever fully get into Long Hot Summer, just lacked any punch really.

My fave song of your points top 10 is definitely YOUTH, hope that ends up high!

Thank you Cameron! :D Don't worry, there's plenty of stuff you'll know still to come!

Yeah that's why it's not any higher for me really, would be much higher with a bit more of a spark I expect! Still, she has potential so I hope she can put out some stronger stuff in the future.

Thanks Dobbo! :D

231 Isac Elliot - Not for Nothing - n/a

232 All Saints - Puppet On A String - n/a

233 Foxes - Amazing - 36-33-X-36-X-24-31-X (5 non-consecutive weeks)

234 Fifth Harmony - Gonna Get Better - 27-33-X (2 weeks)

235 Lauren Aquilina - Kicks - 16-26-38-X (3 weeks)

236 Tungevaag & Raaban - Beast (feat. Isac Elliot) - 29-20-28-X (3 weeks)

237 Benjamin Lasnier - Everythang - 23-19-25-38-X (4 weeks)

238 Fleur East - Tears Will Dry - 34-X (1 week)

239 Jakob Karlberg - 1990 - 19-23-… (2+ weeks)

240 Elle King - Ex's & Oh's - 34-X-22-30-37-X (4 non-consecutive weeks)

Starting to reach some slightly longer runners now! Elle King's Ex's & Oh's failed to make my top 20 this year but nonetheless scored more weeks on the chart than several top 20 hits, ending up with a pretty respectable run in my chart for a #22 hit. Just above is Swedish singer Jakob Karlberg (spitting image of James Bay except with blonde hair) with 1990, which I read as "nineteen ninety" but he sings in Swedish so I guess that wouldn't be the title :kink: nonetheless, it fails to live up to his two previous hits Fan va bra and Fel på dig, which made my EOY top 100 last year. It does however feature higher than his previous two singles Haltar and Trädgårn, both of which fail to make my top 250 this year. Fleur East also featured highly in my chart last year, with her #1 hit Sax, and now appears a year later with album track Tears Will Dry.

Benjamin Lasnier features twice in my countdown, first at #237 with Everythang (actual spelling), and later on with the much better Reckless Love from his Chill With You EP. Isac Elliot features twice in this section alone, with Tungevaag & Raaban collabortation Beast at #236, and EP track A Little More at #231, which has never actually made my weekly top 40, just like the All Saints album track Puppet On a String which is one place lower.

In the middle of the section are a few more minor hits, with Lauren Aquilina's Kicks doing better than previous single Ocean but failing to match the highs of her 2014 #1 hit Lovers or Liars. Foxes achieved her first two top 10 hits in my chart last year with Body Talk (#7) and Better Love (#4), but Amazing fell short. Nonetheless, it managed a good enough run, and she still has one more song to appear! Finally, it's the first appearance of Fifth Harmony at #234 with Gonna Get Better, expect plenty more of them throughout!

Young Again is my favourite from the first group, I loved that when it was entered into BJSC :music:

Thanks Pete! :D Glad you're liking Young Again!

Kicks, True Colors and Ex's And Oh's are my favourites so far  Hopefully that's not the last of Lauren in your countdown this year!

Thanks Sam  unfortunately that's it for Lauren this year :( not given the album as much attention as I'd have liked to

Hello Joseph, some good tracks dropping out already :(

Amazing was pretty good but probably the worst single from her most recent era, Body Talk especially was so much better. A shame she just completely tanked this era though, hope this isn't the end of her :(

Ex's and Oh's is quite the jam too, stuck around in my chart for a while because I was loving it for ages, love her voice and the track was a lot of fun. Really enjoyed Under the Influence too, even more so probably!

Hyped for the rest !!!

Delighted to see Ariana finish 3rd in your albums chart. Such a great album, certainly did not disappoint.

The Fifth Harmony track is my favourite of your singles so far. I loved their album too :D

Hey Josh! :D Don't worry, there's plenty of goodness still to come, 230 fab tracks in fact!

I'd agree that Amazing was the worst single from the era, but it's a nice uplifting song at least! I wish the whole era did better, Body Talk sounded like a massive smash, no idea what went wrong there :(

Ex's & Oh's really stands out amongst a lot of popular music right now so that probably helped me liking it! Really surprised it became a hit but absolutely not complaining :D

Thanks!!!

221 Jessarae - No Warning - 19-16-25-38-X (4 weeks)

222 Lucie Silvas - Villain - 19-24-X (2 weeks)

223 Ace Wilder - Don't Worry - 14-24-X (2 weeks)

224 Alec Benjamin - End of the Summer - 16-23-37-X (3 weeks)

225 Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Come with Us - 25-24-28-X-38-33-38-X (6 non-consecutive weeks)

226 Fifth Harmony - Write On Me - 13-33-X (2 weeks)

227 The Chainsmokers - Closer (feat. Halsey) - 20-24-31-X (3 weeks)

228 Jesper Jenset - Lies - 13-… (1+ weeks)

229 Alan Walker - Faded - 24-20-28-39-X (4 weeks)

230 Haley Reinhart - Better - 20-24-34-40-X (4 weeks)

Kicking off this section is one of my very first BJSC artists, Haley Reinhart! The former American Idol contestant DNQ'd in my third contest with her debut single Free, a #1 in my chart. Better was the main lead single from her second album of the same name, and it failed to reach the same heights but considering how atrocious one of the preceding promo singles was, I expected worse. Thankfully, that one didn't make the album! I also sent Jesper Jenset to BJSC but much more recently, with High, which finished 9th earlier this year and is still to come much higher up this countdown. The follow-up, Lies, makes a much quieter impact, becoming his first single so far to miss my top 10, and it finishes at #228 here.

In between those two is Faded by Alan Walker, a huge Buzzjack favourite from this year. It didn't make quite as huge an impact on me but it's aged well over the year and nonetheless got a top 20 peak in my weekly chart. Sadly I've been less enthused by his follow-ups which are basically repeating the formula but oh well. Also a huge hit this year was Closer by The Chainsmokers, a huge #1 in fact. It also peaked at #20 in my chart, and sadly at this moment in time I'm feeling very bored of it due to overplay. The Chainsmokers have two songs still to come, while featured artist Halsey has no more.

The rest of the section is made up of songs that didn't chart in the UK. Write On Me was the second instant grat from Fifth Harmony's album, and as a result, reached #13 in my chart. Sophie Ellis-Bextor manages to still make my countdown despite being one of a tiny amount of songs to qualify even with a peak of lower than the top 20! Come With Us got to #24 but nonetheless managed a decent chart run, better than her previous lead single Young Blood. Alec Benjamin looked set for a big climb after charting at #16 based on less than a day of exposure in my chart, but the track failed to hold up for me and it actually sunk the week after. Nonetheless it's a nice little quirky song.

Another Eurovision-related song now from Ace Wilder, whose pop anthem Don't Worry reaches #223, just behind Lucie Silvas' Villain, which charted top 20 following me FINALLY seeing her live in January after god knows how long waiting. Finally, another song that got boosted by a live experience rounds off the section. I first heard No Warning when Jessarae supported 5 Seconds of Summer on tour, and he's an interesting new artist that I need to keep an eye on!

Recommendation

Haley :D Actually just now giving 'Better' a first listen oops, but it's sounding good! She's from the same American Idol season as my BJSC artist Lauren Alaina *.*

Yay for Elle King too, my home state getting representation. Maybe it'll get even more if The Tide is in the countdown....I doubt they'd be in the top 220 though :nocheer: (:kink:)

I also like 'Write On Me', thought it would make a great single but I'm not really expecting it now at this point :(

Faded :music: a great track to introduce us to Alan Walker!

Love Don't Worry as well, didn't hear it until ages after the show though. Really like the piano parts in that
