Hi again Joseph

This latest era from Selena has definitely been her best yet, her whole album was really strong and she definitely picked the best tracks from it as singles. KEWK was probably my least favourite of the lot so not that bothered it didn't do as well but the whistling definitely gets stuck in your head.

IKWYDLS is really underrated, I wish it had been a bigger hit in the official charts. What a mess at all this 5H stuff going on at the moment, she was always kind of annoying though so I can actually see them doing better than her in the future! We'll have to see :o

Niall has always been my joint favourite member of 1D with Harry but his solo track was so disappointing, not much really wrong with it but it was so just so dull and slow that I got bored listening to it after about two plays. Zayn's and Louis' tracks have been a lot better!

:D

Hey Joseph :D

I kinda think the release and promo strategy for Body Say was a total mess, such a shame as it is a pretty decent tune and could have been a good sized hit had the label not totally screwed it all up. :( I hope she gets more success out of her next era.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is great, was unfortunate to see that not do much in the charts. I do far prefer Treat You Better and Stitches to it, though, but it's better than Mercy. The whole 2016 Shawn era has been flawless so far though tbh.

Kamikaze is great! I feel like a broken record when I say it should have done better in the charts etc at this point :heehee:

Kill 'Em With Kindness is the only Selena song to chart on my Personal Chart! (albeit with a run of 39-39-OUT :kink: ) I think it's actually got a decent message behind it.

After The Afterparty is alright but Charli's certainly done better.

Cake By The Ocean is a great hit. Very fun and catchy but overplay has slightly put a damper on my enjoyment of it.

Desire is easily Years & Years best song. I prefer it without Tove Lo though.

Kill Em With Kindness is my 2nd favourite song from Revival. I was delighted it went top 40, she's been so successful this era.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is the only Shawn song I like. :kink: This is a great pop song and Camila is great on it.

IKWYDLS is definitely better for Camila than Bad Things, although I like that too. She needs songs with a bit more to them such as Summer as her voice isn't the most powerful or dynamic

Hey Josh, thanks!! :D

I agree, Revival has seen Selena at her very best I think, what an excellent album. KEWK could be my least favourite of the four too but I still really love it!

The 5H situation is a mess indeed, I feel a bit for Camila though! I doubt she was an angel in the whole situation but it does seem like they hated her

I do get why people would say This Town is dull tbf, but I love the charm it has!

Hey mdh! :D Thanks for commenting!

It really was a mess, although I guess they weren't intending for it to be more than a promo single. Shame really, a wasted opportunity!

I'd give you my order of the Shawn singles but that might spoil a bit of the countdown later on! :kink: But IKWYDLS is sadly his weakest for me, even including Life of the Party and Something Big which came before his breakthrough!

6 Tom Odell

I must admit, I never expected to be such a fan of Tom Odell! I'd heard of him around the end of 2012 but didn't bother to take a listen or anything. I heard a snippet of a song on a music channel on the TV but it sounded offputting - it was literally a tiny snippet though. I then heard Another Love in mid 2013, the music video was played in the O2 before Paloma Faith took to the stage for her tour, and I was really impressed, it hit the spot instantly. I checked it out when I got back and fell in love. Funnily enough, it was just a few days before its proper single release and about a week later it made the top 10! Another Love actually remains the biggest #3 hit in my chart, blocked by Delta Goodrem and Cody Simpson, which makes sense I guess considering they were "bigger names" at the time - who's laughing now eh? (not that Delta's done badly at all recently)

Anyway, I loved his debut album and it's the longest running album to date on my chart still, so I was incredibly hyped for the follow-up, and it had to be good after a three-year gap. Promotional single and title track Wrong Crowd showed a new sound, and a lot of promise, a fantastic track. The official single followed a bit later, and it gave Tom his second #1 in my chart (following Real Love in 2014). Magnetised was exactly what I wanted from him - a stormer of a track, strong hooks but also containing some great lyrics - I think it must be the only song I've heard with the word "pheromones" in it, not once but twice

The album followed later, and it was all I listened to for a little while. It would be difficult to say it's better than the debut album but I don't think it's worse either, which is great. Songs like Here I Am and Still Getting Used to Being On My Own hit me instantly, while tracks like Concrete and Jealousy took a few more listens to click, and fourth single Silhouette only hit me recently with its radio push, which shows there's life in the old dog yet!

I had the pleasure of attending Tom's album signing for the album on the day it got released, followed by a meet & greet and album signing! Tom performed only a few songs but in such an intimate setting, it was so captivating. Meeting him afterwards was even better, such a down to earth guy and was really easy to talk to. He complimented my t-shirt - which funnily enough was a t-shirt of him that I bought in 2014 when I saw him live the first time! - and we got this picture together. I went to see him live on the proper tour and once again he was excellent. Hearing Real Love performed live (as a special surprise too, he didn't sing it on any of the other tour dates) was such a special moment, one of my favourite songs of recent years, particularly when mixed with the John Lewis advert it accompanies. Basically, 2016 has been a total triumph for Tom, he's managed to pull it out of the bag once again and even topped it off with a Christmas EP which is currently #1 in my album chart. Here's to hopefully another single or two in 2017 before he gets to work on album 3!

91 Iggy Azalea - Team - 9-2-4-5-9-14-23-30-37-X (9 weeks)

92 Ellie Goulding - Army - 25-24-27-X-15-9-8-16-27-36-X-33-24-31-X (12 non-consecutive weeks)

93 Margaret - Cool Me Down - 5-10-15-24-36-X (5 weeks)

94 Ben Weighill - Time After Time - 33-14-12-11-14-10-18-25-31-X (9 weeks)

95 The Chainsmokers - Don't Let Me Down (feat. Daya) - 8-16-20-16-5-10-15-21-30-X (9 weeks)

96 Laura Mvula - Ready or Not - 6-12-19-… (3+ weeks)

97 Benjamin - Rush - n/a

98 Mollie King - Back to You - 14-1-5-17-30-36-X (6 weeks)

99 Fifth Harmony - That’s My Girl - 23-31-X-11-8-16-11-13-20-27-33-X (10 non-consecutive weeks)

100 Ellie Goulding - Still Falling for You - 17-4-7-14-23-32-X (6 weeks)

The quality just continues to increase as we go up now, and this section sees both Ellie Goulding songs in this countdown drop out together. Still Falling for You is out first, it made it to #4 in one of the busiest weeks of the year, in which The Tide fell a record breaking 1-7 to make way for six new songs to enter or climb high. The song matched the peak of Ellie's previous soundtrack single Love Me Like You Do, although it didn't end up with quite as much longevity. #1 in said really busy week was Mollie King's Back to You, which now feels very weird because it's the second lowest of all the #1s in my countdown and actually has the shortest chart run of every #1 hit this year. Nevertheless, it's a nice song, and I wish it became a hit, even if it was doomed from the start. Anyway, back to Ellie, and she's out at #92 with Army too. It initially got off to a slow start but hit me later on and notched up a very decent 12 weeks in the chart, re-entering after I saw Ellie live in March (she was excellent!).

The first of three Fifth Harmony singles from 2016 drops out at #99, and it's the only one that didn't make #1. That's My Girl had a solid chart run and extended their top 10 streak to six (out of seven possible singles, Miss Movin' On missed out at the start). It's a storming pop anthem, with an excellent video, so it was great to see it become a bit of a hit in the UK although it deserved much more! Also deserving of way more than it got chart-wise was Iggy Azalea's Team. Whilst it doesn't hit the heights of all her previous singles for me, it's still a solid track with a catchy hook.

Benjamin's back with yet another album track - Rush wasn't a huge favourite as such on first listen but it has an undeniable chorus and some pretty good lyrics too, what's not to love? It's the highest song to not make my top 40, and there is only one song left that didn't make my top 10 in fact! Laura Mvula's cover of Ready or Not, for this year's House of Fraser Christmas campaign, drops out just above. It's only her second top 10 hit, following #3 hit Green Garden, which made the top 15 of my 2013 EOY! Laura's cover is really fun, helped a bit by some slightly odd pronunciation :kink: Also featuring in an advert campaign was Ben Weighill's Time After Time, a Cyndi Lauper cover. It hung around in my top 20 for a little while before finally cracking the top 10 for a week. It's a really lovely cover, one that you can still hear on the Dreams advert right now in fact!

Finally, we have a couple of #5 hits left. The Chainsmokers had an excellent 2016, and the song that really kicked things off for them in the UK was Don't Let Me Down, their first top 10 hit (following #16 hit Roses a little while before, and we don't talk about that #11 hit they had in 2014). Featuring vocals from Daya, the song instantly stood out to me due to its unique drop, something I've enjoyed in a lot of songs this year because I was getting very sick of samey washing machine-style breakdowns! It's my favourite track of theirs to date. At #93 is pop gem Cool Me Down by Margaret, a song that I expect could've been a UK top 10 hit without the Eurovision link. Such a shame, lots of wasted potential there, but it's excellent nonetheless and I wish it won its national selection!

didn't like either of those Ellie songs, she can do better :(

Cool Me Down and Don't Let Me Down are good though. (lol the Down consistency)

Hi Joseph

Yeah, I do feel a little for Camila but she does seem a bit annoying too, the other members are far more likeable imo

Yay at another fan of Team, I don't think there are many of us on the forum but I think Iggy's output has been pretty consistently great and the hook in this was well catchy, shame it just completely flopped in the charts.

I always found Mollie a little annoying out of all The Saturdays members and she probably had the weakest voice so I was surprised at how much I liked Back to You, it sounded unexpectedly polished and her tone really worked for the track. Hope we get some new stuff soon!!

Both Ellie songs falling out :(

Pretty much love the rest to some degree too :o

Thanks Harry! :D I'm sure Ellie will dominate with her next era :D

I agree that she can do better tbh, but I still like these! Thanks Dan :D

Ellie is a disgusting person with bad morals and I hate her x

That's My Gworl *.*

Idgi your #96 xx

Poor Ellie x ty Ball (sun)

Cool Me Down was nice, they really should've sent that to Eurovision :(

Army is nice as well!

Thanks Pete! :D

Mollie was always my favourite Saturday so I was excited for this track, it definitely didn't disappoint although as my chart run for it shows, it didn't hold up that well in my affections!

81 Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman - 20-5-8-15-23-32-36-X-29-36-X (9 non-consecutive weeks)

86 AlunaGeorge - I'm in Control (feat. Popcaan) - 5-11-12-16-26-34-38-X-37-X (8 non-consecutive weeks)

87 Sia - Cheap Thrills (feat. Sean Paul) - 34-28-21-16-15-7-7-11-17-26-32-39-X (12 weeks)

88 Tom Odell - Here I Am - 22-12-17-25-38-X-9-11-22-30-38-X (10 non-consecutive weeks)

89 Vaults - One Day I'll Fly Away - 25-3-9-… (3+ weeks)

90 Conrad Sewell - Remind Me - 6-9-17-19-21-26-35-X-18-20-24-35-X (11 non-consecutive weeks)

After coming out on top of my EOY last year and having three further songs in the top 30, 2016's been pretty quiet in comparison for Conrad Sewell, as he only features twice in my top 250 and no higher than #90. Remind Me was picked as the third single from his All I Know EP and got a single remix earlier this year alongside a music video. It didn't hit the top spot like Hold Me Up and Who You Lovin', but made it to a respectable #6 still. It's just below Vaults, who made their chart debut with John Lewis advert track One Day I'll Fly Away, which outdoes Kimberley Walsh's cover, which got to #200 EOY despite a #2 peak. It is, however, far from the highest EOY position for a John Lewis advert song. Tom Odell's Real Love has the highest to date, getting to #11 at the time, no doubt it would've been even higher had it not been only a few weeks old at the time.

Speaking of Tom Odell, he features twice in this section. Here I Am appears first at #88. It's his lowest peaking single since I became a fan (Another Love onwards), but keeps up his top 10 streak with a #9 peak. The track stood out as an instant highlight from the album and almost made my top 10 even before its single push! It was outcharted by the first taster of the album, the title track Wrong Crowd, which got to #2 a few months before the album's release. Wrong Crowd is at #83.

AlunaGeorge also feature twice, and unlike Tom, they do not feature again in the countdown now! First up is the lead single I'm in Control at #86, the first song of theirs I can say I properly loved, and the first song to make my top 40. Popcaan adds a lot of fun to the track and the instrumental is great. Mean What I Mean is higher, at #82, and features great raps from Leikeli47 and Dreezy. Both songs are obviously pretty close in my affections but Mean What I Mean just about has the edge despite a lower chart peak!

Back down to #87 now for Sia and Sean Paul, who surprised everyone with their monster hit Cheap Thrills this year. The original without Sean Paul is good but there's no doubt in my mind that he improves the track. It's his first appearance in the countdown out of three, and Sia's first of two! Benjamin Lasnier makes his second appearance of two, after initially dropping out at #237 with Everythang. Reckless Love, despite not being an official single, did a lot better, and ended up overshadowing Everythang because I only discovered the former about a week before the latter got released!

Finally, two pop females finish off this section. Britney appears first at #84 with recent single Slumber Party, alongside an extra guest verse from Tinashe. The original on Britney's album Glory was always a favourite of mine anyway but I'm delighted it got the full single treatment alongside a top notch video. Ariana closes the section with the first of her three 2016 singles, and it's the album's title track Dangerous Woman. The song is slick and sexy, although it's the lowest peaking of the three tracks in my chart.

Recommendation

AlunaGeorge  the raps in MWIM really do make it better than IIC although both are great. Also a fan of Cheap Thrills ofc.

I like a lot some of the songs that are out of the Top100 (most of my Top30 of the year is there haha) :(

Niall, Kelly, Charli XCX, Daya, Alan, Katy, Meghan :o

Hi Joseph

Dangerous Woman is definitely one of my favourite tracks from the same album. Unlike pretty much everyone else, Into You is the weakest single from the album for me. STS is the best for me too, just so slick. She's been on fire this year though

I don't ADORE One Day I'll Fly Away but it is really gorgeous and it suits the advert very well. I'm gutted that the John Lewis ad tracks aren't doing so well this year because both this and the AURORA tracks have been very beautiful imo :(

Happy Christmas ! x

Hi Joseph!

A lot of goodness here since I last commented. From your top 100, really like Cool Me Down - massive pop banger that.

Don't Let Me Down was also a top track & definitely better than Closer, though not as good as Roses IMO.

AlunaGeorge have always been hit & miss for me, not too big on those 2 tracks but I Remember was definitely a HIT in my book!
