January 26, 20178 yr That last section is brilliant. I Feel It Coming, For Free, Starving, Sex & Too Good are all amazing songs. I love the fact that you can hear the Daft Punk influence in I Feel It Coming a lot more than in Starboy. Sex is the only of the old urban song turned dance remix craze that I've liked. It actually makes the song more interesting unlike The Mack & Let Me Hold You.
January 29, 20178 yr Author 20. G-Eazy feat. Bebe Rexha “Me, Myself & I” http://images.rapgenius.com/85561464686bb9b8b7a10d7a5785c8c7.480x270x92.gif This was #1 on my chart in March and I’m still not sure how or why. Both artists are quite average in my opinion, but the song proved to be perfect for driving alone and I recall relating to the lyrics at the time. Not disowning it or anything, just saying it was a surprise #1! 19. Rihanna feat. Drake “Work” I was disappointed that Rihanna didn’t go further in the direction of “FourFiveSeconds”, but forgave her soon enough after growing to like “Work” nearly as much. I think it was easy for people to focus on her saying “Work”/mumbling over and over and thinking “this is stupid”, but if you see past that there’s so much to appreciate. Excellent recovery from the extraordinary floppiness of “American Flopsygen”. 18. Ariana Grande feat. Nicki Minaj “Side To Side” http://2dopeboyz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/giphy-16.gif The impact of Magic! tbh with Ariana Grande and Fifth Harmony both making their own reggae-pop smashes this year. “Side To Side” burned out a little too quickly but it was a nice collab and a long-overdue BIG hit for Ariana, as she falls short of the top 10/top 5 far too often. 17. Fifth Harmony feat. Fetty Wap “All In My Head (Flex)” Every year my song of the summer seems to be one that underperforms in the charts and peaks at #2 on mine. Last year it was Maroon 5 “This Summer’s Gonna Hurt”, the year before that was Katy Perry’s “This Is How We Do”, and this year it’s Fifth Harmony and Fetty Wap. I can hear enough similarities between “All In My Head (Flex)” and “679” that it surprises me to see they had different producers. I’m sure you could switch the backing tracks around and they’d sound just as good. As most of you know I love “679”, it’s my personal birthday jam now; not sure if this will have similar longevity but it did peak higher in my chart and my EOY so we’ll see! 16. The Chainsmokers feat. Rozes “Roses” Could you imagine if “Roses” had been the Chainsmokers’ long-running #1 instead of “Closer”? I can just imagine how incredible it would have sounded at the end of the chart show. The song’s greatest asset, other than the vocals, is how it changes up every eight measures, a lot like “Turn Down For What”. That may explain why “Roses” still sounds very fresh compared to “Don’t Let Me Down” and “Closer”, even counting that the latter two were played a whole lot more. 15. Jason Derulo “Get Ugly” “Get Ugly” is a shamelessly fun song that gets everything right, from the la-la-las to the diddly-diddly-didllies, and the production is fire too. Total ear candy, underrated gem, Jason’s best song in years if not ever. The tempo change at the end *.* 14. Carly Rae Jepsen “Run Away With Me” This was #34 in my EOY last year, but somehow I heard it on the radio more in 2016 than 2015, thanks to a couple stations near me that never gave up on it and hopefully made thousands of Ohioans realize the sheer flawlessness of “Run Away With Me”. That coincided the song being entered into the 10-year anniversary special edition of BJSC, which was probably the cheapest entry imaginable but certainly kept me listening to it well past its run as a single. Then came those “Run Away With Me” memes which I thought would FINALLY make it a proper hit, but alas, no. </3 13. Maren Morris “My Church” ouWQ25O-Mcg (Already did commentary on this, sorry Maren :heehee:) 12. Justin Bieber “Sorry” Just a couple places higher than it finished in my EOY last year. Out of Justin’s three #1 singles from Purpose, “Sorry” seemed to have the most longevity and deservedly so! 11. Kungs vs. Cookin’ On 3 Burners “This Girl” This is the story of an artist with a weird name, remixing a song by an artist with an even weirder name. Another surprise #1 from my chart, “This Girl” is the song that held Fifth Harmony off #1 in July, when it was just starting to get momentum in America. I didn’t expect it to be a hit here at all so that was really awesome, despite falling from its peak rather quickly. Who's top 10? Will this still get finished in January? Stay tuned :o
January 30, 20178 yr Nice to see This Girl here! :music: It really deserved a week at #1 in the UK :(
February 1, 20178 yr Author 10. Twenty One Pilots “Ride” Pw-0pbY9JeU Gosh, I remember hearing “Holding On To You” back in 2013 and thinking Twenty One Pilots were so overrated. I’d written them off even at the start of the Blurryface campaign, when the first song I heard was the lackluster “Fairly Local”. But then came the irresistible “Tear In My Heart”, followed by the ever-relatable “Stressed Out”, followed by the spectaular “Ride” which is basically everything I ask for in a good song. It’s not only reggae-influenced (so of course I’d be a fan), but also made up for the severe lack of rock hits in 2016—in the US, at least. I’ve been thinking too much  9. Brothers Osborne “Stay A Little Longer” zY6cMMtLCcQ At #9 is another duo, but one I’d never heard of prior to this song. Brothers Osborne have the slightest Buzzjack connection as one of the brothers is married to Lucie Silvas, fave of JosephStyles. “Stay A Little Longer” is hugely refreshing amongst the increasingly pop sound of modern country, and just a magnificent song regardless of that. The little jam session at the end is just glorious. It peaked at #2 on my chart in January behind Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” and is the second-highest country song ever in my EOY, behind Thomas Rhett’s “Crash And Burn”. 8. Troye Sivan “Youth” XYAghEq5Lfw 7. Alessia Cara “Scars To Your Beautiful” http://bestfan.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/alessia.gif 6. DJ Snake feat. Justin Bieber “Let Me Love You” I’ve yet to hear a DJ Snake track I didn’t like. If anyone could get me to chart Justin Bieber this high, it’s him. “Let Me Love You” is an obvious descendant of “Lean On”, my #2 song of 2015, and that very much worked in its favor when usually I’d be moaning about its lack of originality. It’s also the highest non-#1 (from my personal chart) in my EOY!
February 5, 20178 yr Author 5. Adele “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” http://www.thebounce.ca/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2016/05/tumblr_o7lyqviR5D1r9dm6no7_500.gif My original favorite back when 25 was released, “Send My Love” was rightfully made a single and rightfully did very well. Just being uptempo was enough for it to stand out, but I was drawn to the harmonies in the chorus as well. The video, of course, was a total eyesore. And it didn’t hold up completely from the inevitable overplay, so I’m taking a break from it but still love it enough to place it at #5! 4. Drake feat. Wizkid & Kyla “One Dance” The last two #1s in my EOY both topped my personal chart in April of their respective year. “One Dance” was my #1 in April this year, so I thought it had a good shot of being the third in a row. It’s the first and only song to top my chart in less than a month of being released, in other words the quickest to get to #1. I was all for its chart domination this year, especially holding Calvin Harris and Justin Timberlake up at #2. Prior to “One Dance”, I’d found it interesting that Drake didn’t have one particular song he was best known for, but there’s no questioning that he does now. And I’m glad it’s this one, as much as I like some of the others this one’s more than worthy of being his biggest hit. 3. Adele “When We Were Young” “When We Were Young” was my February #1 following Adele’s sensational BRITs performance. I especially LOVED the staging! I think it will age the best, no pun intended, out of all the singles from 25. One of Adele’s best songs to date and she makes it seem so effortless!
February 7, 20178 yr Author 2. Alessia Cara “Wild Things” De30ET0dQpQ If there’s one artist in particular who defined the year 2016 for me, it is Alessia Cara without a doubt. I never saw that coming even at this time last year, as first single "Here" was good but not great. Something about "Wild Things" really grabbed my attention and made me take notice of her. I began comparing Alessia to Lorde; thematically this song is most reminiscent of "Team" but I could draw parallels to "Tennis Court" too. The production was unique too, not a standard R&B track but also far from being formulaic pop. It was a little frustrating watching the song underperform, but some countries did make it a hit and I heard it on the radio plenty of times here. Anyway, it was clear she’s quite a gifted songwriter, and randomly one night in July I decided to check out her Four Pink Walls EP, inspired by our own Noahspike who also has pink walls. :kink: Every song on there was a gem, especially "I’m Yours" which I think is what turned both of us as well as Lee into full-fledged Alessia stans. She has so much talent and of course it’s rewarding to see that talent be recognized and translate into chart success. Her voice is beautiful too and I sure hope we’ll be hearing much more of it over the next decade or so! http://s11.favim.com/orig/160627/ariana-grande-cute-gif-Favim.com-4461211.gif 1. Ariana Grande “Into You” 1ekZEVeXwek She was #7 in 2014 with "Break Free". She was #4 in 2015 with "One Last Time". But it’s third time lucky for Ariana, as "Into You" is the #1 for 2016! It was not clear-cut at all, I went back and forth with the entire top four and didn’t make the final decision until last night. "Wild Things" is a more personal song for me and in many ways felt right to put at #1, but focusing on just the songs, free of context, nothing could outmatch "Into You" this past year. I tend to forget the disappointment of "Dangerous Woman" (the song) and worrying how the album would sound, as my first listen of this was more than enough to turn that around. I won’t ramble any further because chances are you already love this and would agree with it being one of the best of 2016. THANKS for all the comments along the way, I really appreciated reading them all and I’m glad to have got this done four months earlier than last year. Here’s a recap of the full top 60 to round this up. 1. Ariana Grande “Into You” 2. Alessia Cara “Wild Things” 3. Adele “When We Were Young” 4. Drake feat. Wizkid & Kyla “One Dance” 5. Adele “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” 6. DJ Snake feat. February 8, 20178 yr Great top 10 I pretty much know all apart from Brother's Osbourne especially love Into You as the number one easily her best this era and I love Here too so much so slay me Jord
February 19, 20178 yr Ride is great, not quite as brill as Stressed Out but those 2 are a lot higher than all their other recent material. Youth is a superb track too, very underrated artist! And fab to see One Dance bossing it at #4, THE track of 2016 in many ways.
