Decided to jump aboard the Countdown thread and reveal my favourite songs of 2016! Only gonna do a Top 50 because of time constraints and want to give the songs I choose justice. Will get the first few up very soon.

Any predictions?!

50. Shakka - Don't Call Me

Peak Month: December

Only a Soundcloud version of this one for now, as it's so new but has made significant impact on me already! Shakka is one of those artists blessed with a rich, expressive voice which is fairly unique in the UK music scene right now. Been around for a few years, even made a chart appearance singing on Wretch 32's 'Blackout' in 2013. 'Say Nada' is still surprisingly popular too and was a favourite of mine towards the end of 2015. This song here is a great 'moving-on' anthem with an empowering chorus to fill the listener with defiance.

49. Majid Jordan - Make It Work

Peak Month: July

Majid Jordan you may remember from featuring on Drake's mammoth hit 'Hold On, We're Coming Home', one of my favourites of the decade, and the released their self-titled debut album at the start of the year. Initially, my attention was drawn to the Drake-featuring 'My Love' and the ultra smooth 'Something About You', but after hearing this on the radio during the summer I was instantly hooked! Takes a little while to build, but again this is a song to fill you with defiance and hope and responsibility as the lyrics portray the need to work on a failing relationship. Deceptively good.

48. Yungen - Comfy

Peak Month: March

After being signed to a major label at the end of last year, Yungen has had a big year this 2016. Summer anthem 'Take My Number' features the buttery vocals of Angel, although my major memories of that song include May showers and attending the last game at Upton Park! While less mainstream the song I've picked, 'Comfy', is an intoxicating grime track that is great to work out too. Think this was originally intended as a Chip diss track before taking on a life of it's own. All the best grime songs have a chantable chorus too, which Comfy undeniably has. Essential UK track from what has been another impressive year for the grime genre.

47. Ty Dolla Sign ft. Joe Moses - Wavy

Peak Month: March

Big club song from an artist who appeared to be featuring on every other track coming out of America this year. Produced by DJ Mustard, this is relentlessly catchy and that chorus demands you to break out into a strut, inflating your ego! By March, a DJ Mustard produced track was unlikely to turn any heads for originality and Ty Dolla Sign was featuring on the Fifth Harmony song that blew up but this is nevertheless one for the urban heads to enjoy.

Shout out to 'Saved' as well, a video was released for it about this time but alas enjoyed no radio support.

46. Jeremih - oui

Peak Month: January

129 million views on this video, wasn't expecting that!

Familiar to UK audiences for his more clubby R&B tracks (Don't Tell 'Em, Somebody, Freak Of The Week etc..), this was a return to more traditional R&B for Jeremih, released of his Late Nights album at the very start of this year. Didn't hit me as instantly as the aforementioned songs, but it's subtle earworm of a chorus eventually grabbed me and found me singing along as 2015 became 2016. Very sexy song this.

Hi ML Hammer!

Can't say I recognise anything from your top 50 yet but there are plenty of tracks just below that are fantastic. My favourites probably being Often, One More Time, Too Good and Black Beatles. Must admit that I Got the Keys is a bit of a guilty pleasure too

Looking forward to the rest :D

45. Kid Ink ft. Jeremih & Spice - Nasty

Peak Month: June

Not the best song Kid Ink has been associated with (Show Me ) and to the untrained ear this sounds identikit to his previous hits but there was something about this I couldn't stop playing during the early Summer. Perhaps the 'Ohhh's' in the chorus are too catchy to resist or the sweet vocals of Jeremih or the nod to Dancehall with Spice's verse towards the end. Not going to be particularly memorable I'd have thought but a catchy summer song nevertheless.

44. DJ Khaled ft. Drake - For Free

Peak Month: June

The first appearance here for Drake. As correctly predicted a few posts before he is particularly prominent in this countdown. Not just in terms of appearances but in terms of influence too, his pawprints all over the likes of Bryson Tiller, PARTYNEXTDOOR and Tory Lanez to name a few. Here he is with frequent collaborator DJ Khaled, who creates almost the perfect summer hip hop beat here. One listen and I'm instantly transported to sunnier climes than winter in Manchester. That beat allows Drake to do his thing, even if its a notable departure from his useful sensitive rhymes (which I for one associate with). The main reason this is so high is that beat though to be honest, inspired.

Shakka I do really like him and I was he was bigger :( need to check out some of these songs such as Majid Jordan

Also from the missout section I like:

43. Tinie Tempah feat. Zara Larsson - Girls Like

Peak Month: April

Probably the first song everyone would recognise in this countdown and the first UK chart hit, dominating the Spring months this year as it did. This didn't quite live up to Not Letting Go in my affections but this is another very infectious effort from Tinie. Produced by KDA, this house song mixed with trap influences sounded a surefire hit, featuring one of 2016's must-haves Zara Larsson on the hook and his signature unique rhyming skills (read: cheesy). My primary memories of this song are of being in the gym or circuit training rather than nights out as you'd expect!

So many tunes missed out on your top 50. Black Beatles, Fade, Man, Often, Run, Timmy Turner, Too Good & Wanna Know being the biggest of the tunes. :D

Comfy: This will probably just miss out on my top 100. I'm not a massive fan of him but this is good.

For Free: Such a tune. It's a shame this kinda got overshadowed by the shower of Drake songs this year. It's so catchy.

Girls Like: Another decent song from Tinie. He hasn't released a song that I properly love since Till I'm Gone.

Excited for the rest of your countdown.

Hello :D

Girls Like is indeed the first one I recognise! It didn't live up to Not Letting Go for me either (which is still such a massive tune, shame it's relatively forgotten) but was still a catchy tune, got bored of it after a little while and the future Zara singles have overshadowed it for me. Hoping for something really good from the upcoming Tinashé collab after the disappointing Mamacita :(
