December 9, 20169 yr Possibly some leftover CDs being discounted to shift the remaining stock? Would it not have been Cassettes/records back in 1986?
December 9, 20169 yr definitely isn't charting in top 40 probably around no.50 It's a shame she missed out and I reckon she'll be top 10 on sales. Same goes with Robbie Williams
December 9, 20169 yr Calm down Einstein! Does anyone know why none of the Christmas songs charted in 2006 even though downloads were counting at the time?
December 9, 20169 yr Anyone know why Shaky and his Xmas track randomly reentered low down the chart in March 1986?? Not sure if the full reason here, but I'm sure I recall in those days there were some odd rules for records 76-100 along the lines of they were excluded if had been in top 75 in previous few weeks and had to have a sales rise if some sort : so often no 100 was actually nearer 140.
December 9, 20169 yr ! Does anyone know why none of the Christmas songs charted in 2006 even though downloads were counting at the time? Chart rules I imagine. Because their physical equivalents were discontinued way before that
December 9, 20169 yr ! Does anyone know why none of the Christmas songs charted in 2006 even though downloads were counting at the time? At that time only songs were eligible to chart as long as it was physically available at the same time. Edited December 9, 20169 yr by zenon
December 9, 20169 yr ! Does anyone know why none of the Christmas songs charted in 2006 even though downloads were counting at the time? Download only songs without any physical (re-)release were only allowed to chart in early 2007. Edited December 9, 20169 yr by N-S
December 9, 20169 yr Does anyone know why none of the Christmas songs charted in 2006 even though downloads were counting at the time? I can't say this with 100% certainty but I know there was a period of time where downloads only counted if a physical was in production too - when the physical got deleted, the downloads stopped counting (hence Gnarls Barkley falling out of the entire chart from the top 10, for example), so I guess they didn't have a physical being produced at the time and therefore couldn't chart! :o EDIT: ah looks like I was right going by N-S's post!

December 9, 20169 yr ! Does anyone know why none of the Christmas songs charted in 2006 even though downloads were counting at the time? there was a rule (until 2007) that they had to have a physical CD as well to count for the chart, but songs were allowed to chart the week before the physical was released (Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' famously was the first to enter at #1 without any physicals).
December 9, 20169 yr Okay thanks, I knew there was some rule that got changed in 2007. IIRC 'Love Me Like You' had a #13 peak at this time in December just like 'So Good' has now, so I'm holding out hope for a shock climb to #11 the week after Christmas :D

The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in 1991 due to drinking problems but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacy on vocals before breaking up in 1996. The band reformed in late 2001, and has been playing regularly ever since, most notably on the US East Coast around St Patrick's Day and across the UK and Ireland every December. The group has yet to record any new music and, according to Spider Stacy on Pogues.com, has no inclination to do so. Their politically tinged music was informed by MacGowan and Stacy's punk backgrounds, yet used traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, cittern, mandolin and accordion. The Pogues were founded in Kings Cross, a district of Central London, in 1982 as Pogue Mahone—pogue mahone being the anglicisation of the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse". - Wikipedia Top 100 Chart History The Pogues 1985 72 Pair Of Brown Eyes -1- 1985 51 Sally MacLennane -2- 1985 62 Dirty Old Town -3- 1986 29 Poguetry In Motion -EP- 1986 42 Haunted -OST- 1987 08 The Irish Rover (The Pogues & The Dubliners) -NAS- 1987 02 Fairytale Of New York (The Pogues feat.
