So if touch goes any higher than 6 it will be their highest post album single so pretty impressive also considering the album almost platinum already

It's Platinum if you count this weeks sales

Clean Bandit look almost certain to get the Christmas No1 but look at how low those sales are going to be this week!

cos it keeps being said about certain people. why doesn't it just effect the whole top 40?

It tends to be the biggest hits of the year too. Especially those from Q3 and Q4.

Great news about 'Underneath The Tree'!

Do you know whereabouts Ariana is with 'Santa Tell Me'? I'm wondering if that will eventually go top 40 at any point in the next few years. It seems to be getting more popular as each year passes

Scott Mills played Santa Tell Me this morning when I was getting ready for work!

Looks like albums will be up week on week but singles around the same level. First Christmas No. 1 ever with less than 100k sales?

Ever highly unlikely but for a long time yes

No it happened in 1993 with Mr Blobby albeit that had to do with the sales period covering the Christmas chart which was Dec 13th-18th, so just about as far from Christmas as it could possibly have been.

It'll be much lower than that though. When was the last time 55K was all that was needed for Christmas #1? 1970?

My records only go back to 1980 so I can't help on that one- but if it's under 92,500 then it will be the lowest in at least 37 years :(

I know there is an argument that if X Factor had not come along then many big acts may have gone for the festive No 1 over the years but without it here's the Christmas No 1 with sales (often the Xmas No 2 but not always....

2005- JCB song- Nizlopi 159,815

2006- Patience- Take That 50,559

2007- What A Wonderful World- Katie Melua & Eva Cassidy 59,680

2008- Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley 80,883- but if we assume this wasn't released if there was no Alexandra Burke version then it would have been RUN- Leona Lewis (72,417)

2009- If we assume no RATM Vs Joe McElderry then it would have been BAD ROMANCE- Lady Gaga (61,677)

2010- What's My Name- Rihanna Ft Drake 104,487

2011- Wherever You Are- Military Wives 555,622

2012- He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother Justice Collective 269,248

2013- Happy- Pharrell Williams 63,858

2014- Uptown Funk- Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno Mars 181,545

2015 -A Bridge Over You Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir 127,490

Arguably X Factor has kept the Xmas sales week artificially high and it would have slumped under 100,000 many years ago without it.

I was just discounting "coronation" singles but if you wanted to remove "Run" then it would have been IF I WERE A BOY- Beyonce (47,092)
Sorry to nitpick but if there was no X-Factor surely Leona Lewis wouldn't have been at 3 in 2008 either?

Rihanna's 'What's My Name' wouldn't have racked up such high sales either...

Also would there have been charity campaigns if people weren't tired of X factors stranglehold

Please advise Susan Boyle's position if still in top 40. Thanks all your info and Merry Christmas to you!
