January 5, 20178 yr The video is brilliant, one of her very best for sure. The song itself is OK, good single choice but not a Katy highlight, I find it a bit too generic sounding.
January 6, 20178 yr Author Obviously the video is one of her best and the track itself is incredibly catchy but there's just something about it that is a little, idk, childish maybe? that means I can't enjoy it as much as some of the other singles from the Teenage Dream album. Still a massive tune and I sing it with all my heart when it comes on the radio  but yeah, ultimately not one of her best for me.
January 7, 20178 yr The video is superior and is what really sold the song. The song just feels too demo-y for it to have smashed on it's own, imo. It's catchy but it just feels a bit, empty to me. EXACTLY how I feel about 'Birthday' too, but 'Birthday' feels a bit more whole and I can see why radio ate that up etc..
January 7, 20178 yr Was this a US no.1?? The video and promo and social media presence for this song were spot on but it doesn't 'feel' like a no.1. In fact it feels more like the majority of Spice Girls songs which got to no.1 on hype, not merit, and this is probably along the same lines.

Yep, I believe this was its US run: 67-x-63-31-4-4-4-3-2-2-2-1-1-5-10-12-13-15-18-25-30-37-38-39-x
January 9, 20178 yr Another firm fave of mine, I remember when I first listened to the album and this was one of the songs that stood out for me, it's just totally fun, silly and bouncy with that awesome sax solo in the middle of it all and along with that fantastic retro music video, this song was just awesome. I also remember at the time that after '.E.T.' I didn't think that there would be any more singles, considering that was the 4th, but then this was announced and I thought YES.... Although I do find it strange that this got to #1 in the USA, while over here in the UK it only managed a respectable peak of #9. But that was probably thanks to the momentum of 'E.T. & 'Firework' which both reached #1 there, otherwise I doubt this would have topped the charts without them keeping up the hype.
