February 26, 20178 yr I think so. It sold 490k in 1992 and has achieved at least 200k since, which would put it at 690k as a minimum. I would have thought it would have received another Silver certification in regards to its downloads and streams but it hasn't; I'm unsure whether it would receive a Platinum certification if it went on to sell 600k downloads and streams. How do you know its sold 200k? Oh I thought a song could not get a lower certification than the one they had already achieved.

However it wouldn't get an additional Silver certification for downloads and streams as the BPI database for pre-1994 releases will only award / upgrade a certification if sales since 1994 take the track to the next certification level from whatever was originally awarded.
February 28, 20178 yr Author How do you know its sold 200k? Oh I thought a song could not get a lower certification than the one they had already achieved. A source revealed it wasn't far off back when it re-entered briefly in 2014. As for the certification thing, I've never really known what the BPI would do, but Robbie has explained in the above post.

'Where Them Girls At' sold 438k in 2011; 162k sold since. 'Survival' sold 53k in 2013 (excluding its one week of ineligible sales); meaning ~147k sold since (the Silver certification includes the ineligible sales). 'Basket Case' originally peaked at #55 upon release in 1994 and re-entered at #7 following its 1995 re-release. It failed to reach the Top 100 Best Sellers of 1995 and I suspected it barely reached 100k, if that. Its sales only total was revealed to be on 262k in August 2016 which, not accounting for what it has sold since or what its streams were at the time, would suggest streams make 138k of its total. I was actually surprised to see that it's their most streamed song on Spotify. 'Black Skinhead' sold 100k in 2013; 300k sold since. 'Jesus Walks' failed to reach the 2004 Best Sellers list, meaning sales of under 29k, so at least 171k sold since. 'I Got 5 On It' sold 280k in 1996; 120k sold since. 'Shake It' sold 283k in 2009; ~117k sold since. 'Never Gonna Let You Go' sold 320k in 1997; 80k sold since. 'Perfect Gentleman' sold 288k in 2001; 112k sold since. My Head is an Animal sold 225k by the end of 2013; 75k sold since.
March 2, 20178 yr Gaga's Fame - UK sales approx 2,940,000 Gaga's Joanne - UK sales approx 100,000 That's quite a diminishing return! A combination of sales interest in Gaga plummeting (for multiple reasons) and the charts of 2017! Still, what should count is quality not sales, and Joanne is a fairly decent album.
March 2, 20178 yr I don't see why Joanne crawling to 100k is something to celebrate. I'm a Rihanna fan and the 200k Anti has done in the UK isn't something I cheer about.

I think when you consider ARTPOP was 3 years ago and was a bit of a slump for her both in the commercial stakes and the fact her reputation was shot to pieces, this has no hits on it and got off to a really shaky start... I don't think 100k is too bad, I wasn't sure if it would achieve that. I know you'll say "your expectattions must have been low". Well, they really were.

I guess but then you have to think 100k with a Superbowl performance, X factor performance, Grammy performance and other award shows, Carpool karaoke and 3 videos. It hardly seems a great return no matter whether it was Gaga or someone random with all the promotion and push.

Most of what you've mentioned regards the US; they'll have a bit of an effect here (which they did) but nothing massive. The promotion did have a huge effect in the US, boosting her album back to #2 and 'Million Reasons' in the Top 5.

The promotion did have a huge effect in the US, boosting her album back to #2 and 'Million Reasons' in the Top 5. With the internet now any big award show or promotion can and does go global. Adele got All I ask to #1 following Carpool. She has done every major promotion she could plus the biggest one of all (Superbowl) so 100k just seems pretty bad to me. I mean I'd just expect anyone with that promo to hit 100k, heck I'd say even an artist like Melanie C should do 100k if she had that promo and exposure.

'Ready or Not' sold 450k in 1996; 150k sold since. 'Faith' had sold over 300k in 1987, putting its total sales at over 500k. 'Billie Jean' sold 645k in 1983; so it is quite comfortably a million 'streller' with to date sales of 1.245m! The 600k sales since 2004 includes 28k from 2006, 39k from 2008 and 120k from 2009. 'She's Electric' was surprisingly never a single - not even a promo single or released elsewhere in the world - but has racked up 200k sales and streams. 'Jerk It Out' reached a peak of #60 in 2003, before being re-released in 2005 when it hit #8 and sold 54k. Let's say it had a total of 60k by the end of 2005, which would suggest sales of 140k since. 'Not Nineteen Forever' sold 20k-30k in 2008, meaning sales of 170k-180k since.

They could have meant Platinum despite it being 1k away (record companies can still request certification updates based on shipments - Kate Bush's Before the Dawn went Gold when it had just passed 90k or something). My usual comments to follow...
March 11, 20178 yr Who You Are is the 5th single from Jessie's debut album to reach Gold, and Lay Me Down is also the 5th single from Sam's debut album to reach Gold! Cool.
March 16, 20178 yr Author 'Still D.R.E.' sold 166k in 2000; 434k sold since. It passed Gold (400k) in December 2014, which works out as ~7.4k per month since (short of 90k sold in both 2015 and 2016 each). 'Little Lies' was #55 on the 1987 Best Sellers list. At #48 was 'Fairytale of New York' which sold an estimated 240k, so I'll say 'Little Lies' sold 230k, putting its total at 430k to date. 'Laid' was only peaked at #25 in 1993, spending only 4 weeks on the chart. It is, however, James' most streamed song on Spotify, so I assume it's also a good trickle seller. Total sales will be about 220k. 'Who You Are' sold 193k in 2011, increasing to about ~250k in 2012; which would mean 150k sold since. 'Fire' sold 218k in 2009; 382k sold since. It had sold 425k by June 2014 when the OCC revealed Kasabian's best sellers. 'This Love' sold 128k in 2004; 272k sold since. It has sold 211k by September 2011. 'Lay Me Down' sold 330k in 2015; 70k sold since. Combined with sales of the original, its total would stand at ~950k. 'Encore Une Fois' sold 470k in 1997; 130k sold since. Passenger's album going Silver means there's 10 #1 albums left to reach 60k.
