Ed has bagged the biggest opening week for any artist since Adele’s record-breaking return in November 2015 when she shot straight to Number 1 with 332,000 combined sales of Hello, while Ed has racked up a staggering 421,000 across his two new releases over the past seven days.

 

Shape Of You and Castle on the Hill have both performed strongly on downloads and streaming, with both songs individually smashing the one-week streaming record previously held by Drake’s One Dance, which racked up 8.9 million plays in one week last summer.

 

Shape Of You notched up 227,000 combined sales this week, made up of 137,000 downloads and 13.4 million streams, while Castle on the Hill managed 194,000 combined sales, split between 120,000 downloads and 11.07 million streams.

it's curious that besides the Manic Street Preachers back in 2001, no one has released 2 singles simultaneously going for #1 & 2

 

I remember back in 1994, Lush released 'Hypocrite' and Desire Lines' on the same day but with no chance of going for the top. They actually entered at No.52 and No. 60 respectively.

Must say I haven't enjoyed a chart this much in a long time, the new format has certainly made it 10x more interesting to listen to - nice to know that Radio 1 are actually making effort with it now :cheer:

I liked 'Paris' more on 2nd listen but it doesn't have that thing about it that made their last few hits so addictive. Not that I've noticed yet anyway...

At least they learned their lesson from 'All We Know' underperforming that we don't want a 'Closer' rip-off. 'Paris' sounds very inspired.

Enjoyed the chart today more than I have in ages! So pleased that they implemented this new format, it really was needed.

 

('Paris' is really good :o minus the way he says 'parents' but I shall let that slide x)

Blimey at this chart, I can't cope with five new songs in the top ten in one week :o

 

Jax Jones and JP Cooper are both pretty good but I'll reserve my biggest yassssss for Ed and Starley, three fantastic songs! Starley's song I discovered via Clubland 2017, another example of good foreshadowing from the compiler of that album!

It hardly underperformed. It peaked in the top 30 and spent five weeks in the top 40

Shape of You sounds like a mashup of Rockabye and Cheap Thrills.
