Another year gone by and another countdown to drag on forever. I'm glad to say my chart did not reflect the official one this year but some of the big hitters will be featured here as well as some unfortunate flops. This is all from points accrued from my chart and so is not a completely accurate representation of my ranking but close enough!

100. LADY GAGA - Million Reasons [uK Peak - 39] [My Peak - 1]

99. CHVRCHES feat. HAYLEY WILLIAMS - Bury It [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 5]

98. ALEX NEWELL - This Ain't Over [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 5]

97. THE WEEKND feat. DAFT PUNK - I Feel It Coming [uK Peak - 9] [My Peak - 1]

NO OFFICIAL VIDEO. SOZ.

96. FERGIE - M.I.L.F $ [uK Peak - 56] [My Peak - 2]

So we kick of with Gaga going a little bit country and it pays off - a lot of people aren't keen on this transformation but for me the material is far stronger than ArtPop :puke2: We follow that with everybody's favourite electropop band CHVRCHES with a little help from Paramore's Hayley - can we have the new Paramore album this year please?! Rather embarrassingly we have Unique from Glee with a massive diva banger - a guilty pleasure if you will. The Weeknd continues his wave of momentum with a slightly poppier take on his sound that definitely does it for me. We finish with a headline grabbing video from Fergie - that song went off as quick as the milk in the video and there's still NO ALBUM. Worst trend of 2016? Delayed albums.

95. THE 1975 - The Sound [uK Peak - 15] [My Peak - 8]

94. DRAKE feat. RIHANNA - Too Good [uK Peak - 3] [My Peak - 10]

NO VIDEO. PULL YOUR FINGER OUT DRAKE!

93. THE XX - On Hold [uK Peak - 34] [My Peak - 3]

92. GRIMES - California [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 10]

91. IGGY AZALEA - Team [uK Peak - 62] [My Peak - 6]

The 1975 returned with a triumphant and more electronic take on their sound and this was their biggest hit from that album, although 'Somebody Else' remains my favourite. Drake had an absolute terrific year but a combination of over-saturation and 'Too Good' being a poor imitation of 'Take Care' it only managed to peak at number 10 on my chart. A late entry to the chart, The xx's comeback has already made waves and the album is set to be high in 2017's best of lists. 'California' is the third single from the amazing 'Art Angels' but failed to recapture the success of the previous singles. Iggy flopped badly this year which is a shame as 'Team' is alright really. Doubt we'll be hearing from her again.

90. JASON DERULO - Get Ugly [uK Peak - 12] [My Peak - 6]

89. ONE DIRECTION - History [uK Peak - 6] [My Peak - 2]

88. SHAWN MENDES - Mercy [uK Peak - 15] [My Peak - 8]

87. YEARS & YEARS - Meteorite [uK Peak - 72] [My Peak - 5]

86. EMELI SANDE - Hurts [uK Peak - 22] [My Peak - 8]

Jason's reign of hits took a stumble this year but this still managed to stick around - like the majority of Derulo's songs it's good at first but will eventually drive you insane. We lost one of the more consistent and enjoyable boy bands when One Direction took a break at the beginning of the year but their solo material is beginning to pop up - some faring better than others. Shawn Mendes finished off a stellar year with a gritty ballad that at least sounded a little bit different to his two big hits. I'm still surprised that 'Meteorite' fared so badly in the official charts. All signs are pointing to Years & Years falling victim to the second album curse. Speaking of, here comes Emeli Sande who is struggling to live up to her debuts success, although her album is still doing well in the current climate.

85. NEIKED feat. DYO - Sexual [uK Peak - 5] [My Peak - 10]

84. KANYE WEST feat. TY DOLLA $IGN & POST MALONE [uK Peak - 50] [My Peak - 4]

83. DANNY L HARLE feat. CARLY RAE JEPSEN - Super Natural [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 6]

82. MIKE POSNER - I Took A Pill In Ibiza (SeeB Remix) [uK Peak - 1] [My Peak - 2]

81. ALAN WALKER - Faded [uK Peak - 7] [My Peak - 8]

A very dancey section here! First we have the infectious 'Sexual' which I did a huge u-turn on as I hated it at first. Kanye had a very turbulent year but thankfully 'The Life Of Pablo' was a fantastic album and this track is destined to be a club staple. Everyone's favourite flopstar Carly Rae goes for Eurohouse - I hope 2017 is the year that PC Music finally takes off. We finish with two massive hits - Ibiza was one of many tropical bops to dominate the airwaves but 'Faded' offers an alternative and more atmospheric take on dance music.

I'm enjoying these picks and your format! Completely forgot about some of those releases though - Y&Y, Iggy's Team, Hurts and the Derulo! Others though I'm well familiar with although they weren't official chart hits. Super Natural seems to've been very popular as an indie hit this year with a lot of folk!

80. PET SHOP BOYS - The Pop Kids [uK Peak - 128] [My Peak - 5]

79. FLEUR EAST - More and More [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 3]

78. BANKS - Gemini Feed [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 5]

77. OLLY MURS - You Don't Know Love [uK Peak - 15] [My Peak - 5]

76. TAYLOR SWIFT - Out Of The Woods [uK Peak - 136] [My Peak - 5]

Pet Shop Boys returned to form with a brilliant album which is incredible considering how far they are into their careers. Fleur's career disappeared this year when SyCo appeared to give up on her - she's pretty much guaranteed to be on I'm A Celeb in the future. BANKS goes a bit more uptempo than usual and it works for her while Olly challenged Carly Rae for a spin on his normal sound. And Taylor released her 147th single from 1989 but nobody really cared which is a shame because it's better than nearly all the other singles.

75. BRITNEY SPEARS feat. TINASHE - Slumber Party [uK Peak - 73] [My Peak - 2]

74. KDA feat. TINASHE - Just Say [uK Peak - 88] [My Peak - 5]

73. ELLIE GOULDING - Army [uK Peak - 20] [My Peak - 4]

72. M.O - Who Do You Think Of? [uK Peak - 18] [My Peak - 4]

71. MURA MASA feat. BONZAI - What If I Go [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 5]

A double whammy of Tinashe here - First she adds a bit of spice to Britney's best album in 10 years and then she drips sex on the severely underrated banger 'Just Say'. This is the first of Ellie's attempts to recapture the success of 'Love Me Like You Do' - will the other one show up later? M.O finally broke through this year, albeit with a tropical bop which has been the defining sound of 2016. Here's hoping 'Not In Love' can build on that success. Finally 'What If I Go' has all the ingredients of a hit - vaguely tropical, sounds a bit like Clean Bandit - but unfortunately it passed the public by and is now deemed to theme adverts forever.

70. MNEK - At Night (I Think About You) [uK Peak - 87] [My Peak - 7]

69. GALANTIS - No Money [uK Peak - 4] [My Peak - 5]

68. SIGALA & DJ FRESH feat. IMANI - Say You Do [uK Peak - 5] [My Peak - 7]

67. GRACE feat. G-EAZY - You Don't Own Me [uK Peak - 4] [My Peak - 1]

66. HAILEE STEINFELD feat. ZEDD & GREY - Starving [uK Peak - 5] [My Peak - 4]

Following on from his smash 'Never Forget You' with Zara Larsson it looked like MNEK might finally have a hit on his own but alas, it was not to be. He's continued to have a big year as a songwriter/producer and featured artist though. Galantis have completely bypassed the curse of one-hit wonder dance act and had their biggest hit yet with 'No Money'. Their particular brand of euphoric EDM is guaranteed to put a smile on your face (and drive you mad). Similarly, Sigala followed a big 2015 with two more top 10 smashes proving that there is no end in sight for tropical popularity. Hanging over from 2015, Grace's reworking of 'You Don't Know Me' was a surprise hit but she has disappeared since. 'Love Myself' was a favourite of mine in 2015 but she surprised us all with breaking through into the mainstream with 'Starving' this year.

65. SHAWN MENDES - Treat You Better [uK Peak - 6] [My Peak - 6]

64. THE VERONICAS - In My Blood [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 6]

63. FKA TWIGS - Good To Love [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 2]

62. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Can't Stop The Feeling! [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 3]

61. GWEN STEFANI - Make Me Like You [uK Peak - 140] [My Peak - 3]

Shawn Mendes followed up his mega hit 'Stitches' with a song... that sounded exactly the same of course. Elsewhere there was flop comebacks from The Veronicas (at least in this country - in Australia it deservedly hit number one) and Gwen Stefani who FINALLY released a new album but unfortunately nobody really cared. Somebody whose comeback was much more successful was Justin Timberlake. His song 'Can't Stop The Feeling' from Trolls (?!) absolutely smashed the charts and is STILL hanging around the top 40 like a bad smell. Finally FKA Twigs continued to gain critical praise but fly under the radar commercially.

Great to see No Money here! A great dance tune with a really catchy verse :music:

Nice to see In My Blood here as well, my favourite Veronicas single to date :)

60. DJ SNAKE feat. BIPOLAR SUNSHINE - Middle [uK Peak - 10] [My Peak - 4]

59. ELLIE GOULDING - Still Falling For You [uK Peak - 11] [My Peak - 4]

58. THE CHAINSMOKERS feat. DAYA - Don't Let Me Down [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 4]

57. BASTILLE - Good Grief [uK Peak - 13] [My Peak - 4]

56. ARIANA GRANDE - Dangerous Woman [uK Peak - 17] [My Peak - 2]

DJ Snake appears here with the first of his two smashes of the year - that bloody parrot sound would appear in many of the dance hits of the year. Following that is Ellie's second reworking of 'Love Me Like You Do' for yet another soundtrack which Tove Lo helped to write. The Chainsmokers were probably the biggest breakthrough dance act of the year, shame they revealed themselves to be ****s of the highest order. Expect one more appearance from them. Bastille released their second album after an extended hiatus but found it hard to recapture their following despite not varying their sound that much. Ariana began a barnstorming year with the highly seductive 'Dangerous Woman' with no hint of the brilliance yet to come.

55. LITTLE MIX feat. SEAN PAUL - Hair [uK Peak - 11] [My Peak - 4]

54. MØ - Drum [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 2]

53. ALL SAINTS - One Strike [uK Peak - 115] [My Peak - 4]

52. BEYONCE - Formation [uK Peak - 31] [My Peak - 1]

51. ALUNAGEORGE feat. POPCAAN - I'm In Control [uK Peak - 39] [My Peak - 3]

The first of 3 big hits for Little Mix sees them employ the 2016 tactic of putting Sean Paul on your track to guarantee a hit - I must admit it's not one of my favourites of theirs. MO followed up the magnificent 'Final Song' (spoiler: its still to come) with a bit of a damp squib - full of personality but doesn't go anyway. All Saints returned and provided me with my favourite gig of 2016 and even more surprising, a solid comeback album. Beyonce of course had a fantastic year but I find her album works better as a complete set of songs rather than individually. 'I'm In Control' deserved to smash everywhere - THAT DAMN BEAT - but only just managed to slink into the top 40. Poor it.

49. DRAKE feat. WIZKID & KYKA - One Dance [uK Peak - 1] [My Peak - 2]

48. SHAWN MENDES - Stitches [uK Peak - 1] [My Peak - 1]

47. SELENA GOMEZ - Kill Em With Kindness [uK Peak - 35] [My Peak - 6]

46. DUA LIPA - Blow Your Mind (Mwah) [uK Peak - 30] [My Peak - 3]

We've got 3 of the biggest chart hits of the year here - Cake By The Ocean reigniting Joe Jonas' career with an insanely infectious chorus, the all-conquering One Dance and the breakthrough smash from Shawn Mendes. Selena managed to whisper and whistle her way to a decent-sized follow up to the massive 'Hands To Myself' which is yet to appear. That chart peak for 'Blow Your Mind' seems weirdly low as it was EVERYWHERE and appeared to be popular. Blame streaming.

All of them in the recent section all good to be honest especially Blow Your Mind which is beyond fab!

45. YEARS & YEARS feat. TOVE LO - Desire [uK Peak - 27] [My Peak - 4]

44. P!NK - Just Like Fire [uK Peak - 19] [My Peak - 2]

43. ADELE - Send My Love (To Your New Lover) [uK Peak - 5] [My Peak - 2]

42. ZARA LARSSON - Ain't My Fault [uK Peak - 13] [My Peak - 1]

41. SIA feat. SEAN PAUL - Cheap Thrills [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 7]

Years & Years re-released the song that got me interested in them initially, with a helping hand from Tove Lo who seemed to pop up on a lot of songs this year. I'm really not sure how 'Just Like Fire' managed to get so high as I find it supremely annoying - hopefully P!nk will come back soon with a proper album. Adele surprised me with this bop and also with her Glastonbury set - I was luckily enough to be there even though I'm not really a fan but she completely won me over. Zara continued to build momentum with 'Ain't My Fault' - her only issue is that everything since Lush Life can sometimes err on the wrong side of annoying. I'm surprised how low Cheap Thrills peaked on my chart, it was a welcome change of pace from Sia and ended up one of the year-defining songs.

40. COLDPLAY feat. BEYONCE - Hymn For The Weekend [uK Peak - 6] [My Peak - 4]

39. CHARLI XCX - Vroom Vroom [uK Peak - n/a] [My Peak - 1]

38. DJ SNAKE feat. JUSTIN BIEBER - Let Me Love You [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 2]

37. SNAKEHIPS feat. ZAYN - Cruel [uK Peak - 33] [My Peak - 2]

36. THE WEEKND feat. DAFT PUNK - Starboy [uK Peak - 2] [My Peak - 2]

Coldplay continue leaning to a more poppy sound and it's definitely working from them as 16+ years into their career they are as popular as ever. PC Music still hasn't really taken off which is a shame as VROOM VROOM is so ridiculous that it deserves to be a hit. 'Let Me Love You' is yet another tropical bop from Biebs - he really needs to change his sound if he wants to keep his gigantic momentum. I really though 'Cruel' was going to be massive but like most things involving Zayn it sank without a trace pretty quickly (poor Like I Would). We end with 'Starboy' which apparently features production from Daft Punk but sounds nothing like a Daft Punk song. Of course.
