January 30, 20179 yr Re Neon Jungle, Braveheart is my favourite girlgroup single probably ever. Hope the vid for Shape Of You keeps it at #1 for the forseeable future (well, helps keep it somewhat).
January 31, 20179 yr Another thing in 2017 - is the music video as powerful a tool anymore in the UK where the TV stations are happy to show lyric videos? Unless it's an absolutely massive video, or released at a time where the song is growing, I'm not sure it makes much difference anymore. I.e. Calvin Harris 'My Way' continued to fall despite the video release a few months ago.

Calvin has huge casaul appeal but I wouldn't say he was a fanbase act, which goes to show why, one of the highest selling songs of 2016 'This is What You Came For' didn't even get through round 1 on the Brits video vote. Certain acts, will always get big video boosts, no matter how dull the video is. Acts like Taylor Swift, Little Mix, Beyonce etc. Zaylor's video boost was huge worldwide, it rose to to #1 in the US and climbed about 15 places here too.

January 31, 20179 yr Noticed it has climbed a lot on Spotify too after the mv release It did! And it wasn't exactly a very exciting video.
January 31, 20179 yr Calvin always releases his videos too late, the video for This Is What came out when no one cared about the song anymore the Zayn/Taylor video is having a big effect right now
January 31, 20179 yr Calvin always releases his videos too late, the video for This Is What came out when no one cared about the song anymore the TIWYCF video getting a billion YouTube views "No one cared about the song anymore" Does not compute
January 31, 20179 yr Hmm but the movie is about to come out which I think is much more contributing to Zaylor's upwards trend. It was already back in the top 20 before the video came out.
January 31, 20179 yr I think fanbase artists are more likely to get a video boost than any other artists tbh. Take Little Mix for example, they had a big boost when the Touch video came out similar to what's happened to ZAYN - both of them have big fanbases so therefore are more likely to care about a video release whereas artists like Calvin don't have a massive fanbase, they appeal to a more casual range of listeners. February 1, 20179 yr 'Big' boost? It's not like it rose to challenge for number 1. It's not reached a new peak or anything. Neither has ZAYN. Edited February 1, 20179 yr by Lenny
February 1, 20179 yr Author Touch did have a big video boost, it was never close to #1 anyway and I don't think anyone ever expected it to contend. but it's back up to its #4 peak (and ahead of everything it was behind before) so I'd say that's a great result. Zaylor are set for a comfortable new peak this week as things stand.
February 1, 20179 yr Zayn/Taylor had a big effect, the song was down at the bottom of the top 40 and it's just outside the top 10 now I disagree with Calvin, fans will watch it and would have an effect, but you have to sync release and video and put the video out at the right moment, if they had done it for the Calvin/Riri song, it would have been a #1 but waited too long and only put the video out when the video was already dropping in the charts after weeks and weeks challenging for #1
February 1, 20179 yr 'Big' boost? It's not like it rose to challenge for number 1. It's not reached a new peak or anything. Neither has ZAYN. They released the video far too late for it to content for #1 and Ed has huge leads on them anyway. 'Touch' was looking to fall to #7 or #8 the week the video came out, instead it got loads of dark green updates (both versions) and climbed from #6 back to #4 and has kept the song much more stable than it was looking to be. And film or no film, the Zaylor video effect has been quite undeniable. I definitely agree with Bjork about "the right moment". For example Zayn's 'Like I Would' video came out really late, and it rose from about #200 to about #70 on iTunes, which didn't really help with it's chart life, but showed that the video effect was in full force.
