Yes at Dua! Was expecting No Lie to be higher but either way pleased that she is about to score her 2 biggest hits in the same week with 'Scared To Be Lonely' joining in on the action too :cheer:

Pleased to see Lucy so high! She has really gone for it with her physical bundle packages which has helped - I'm sure it's super front loaded though :nocheer:

So happy for LLL! Must be taking the number 1 this week!
Major Lazer will probably miss the top 20. Not like them considering LO, LIU and CW were all massive hits

We are not in an era where songs are peaking week 1...

Apart from 2/3 of the most recent #1s did just that. And Major Lazer's last single went in straight at #1.

I doubt Cold Water would've entered anywhere near #1 without Bieber's name attached to it so I don't think we can compare Run Up to that. Light It Up is a more realistic comparison, and that took a few weeks to go top 40 so Run Up is looking at a much better debut!

Yeah, it was undoubtedly the power of Bieber that worked for Cold Water, but I think Major Lazer expected to have built up a bigger buzz after a string of huge hits. And they obviously overestimated their chart power, given the fact Ed Sheeran made them move the date originally, they were clearly aiming for higher debutes around the world.

And claims that we're not in an era where songs peak at #1 is just entirely untrue, lots of songs do, and then lots of songs manage to debut between #5 - #2.

Those two tracks were always going to do that! You can't exactly go higher than number 1 if you debut there can you?

The majority of tracks are now climbing to their peaks once promo kicks in.

Exactly, although even just one year ago we hadn't got to the stage we're now at with OA/OS

I know that, but with major artists, you do expect higher debuts. And I'd just about put Major Lazer up there with some of the biggest these days. Chainsmokers, who I'd say weren't quite as big (possibly the same level), managed to go straight in at #10 with Paris and that didn't have any features. #18 (or probably lower) is clearly an under-performance for a song the label at one point hoped would go to #1.

I should imagine Little Mix's album should go back up to #3 quite easily.

Top 5 singles are looking at non movers, nothing new there. The top 2 needs refreshing now

With SOYs first mids sales its set to equal last weeks 120k again this week so the top 2 could be static for a fair bit longer yet!

The only acts that can enter at no1 these days are ones who are huge like Adele or Ed Sheeran and some other artists with a string of recent hits recently usually peak higher with each new release until something they release flops, Eg The Chainsmokers Paris peaked high due to their recent success.

I think if Major Lazer's label was aiming for a #1 with this then their perceptions were hugely distorted by Cold Water and how huge Bieber's name is. Major Lazer aren't guaranteed hits and don't have a particularly big fanbase - Lean On and Light It Up grew to be hits with exposure because they were great songs, but look at Powerful, I don't think that would do any better even now they have numerous hits under their belts because it was simply just a weak track. They've also released some promo singles between Cold Water and Run Up, and they barely made any impact on iTunes, so I think Run Up is doing just fine for now!

Tbh I think last year was worse than it is now for high debuts! We'd go weeks and weeks at a time without a top 10 debut, it's not that bad now.

(although I do think Major Lazer are massively underperforming, but I mostly put that down to their placing on the New Music Friday playlist)

I think people just had unrealistic expectations for the track, like I said, after Cold Water which distorted the field a bit due to Bieber's name. If the track was simply billed as "Justin Bieber - Cold Water", its first week wouldn't have been any different, Major Lazer's name power is much smaller than his, so naturally Run Up isn't doing anywhere near as well!
