I think Katy is doing well so far, about what I expected.

I always think of Katy more as an artist that appeals to the everyday music buyer anyway. Her hits were hits because they were so catchy and everyone heard them on radio and bought them, rather than because she had a massive hardcore fanbase who would buy the song right off the bat.

I think the song will be a hit when more people hear it. Not sure it will be a #1 or her biggest hit by any means. I'm getting 'Teenage Dream' sized hit from it, rather than it being a 'Roar'.

I think this is spot on. Katy's never seemed like someone who relies on a huge fanbase to get her straight to the top, she just releases radio friendly tracks that are surefire hits and they get there on their own merit. Chained to the Rhythm is bound to be massive in the long run, and I think I expected it to be doing a *tad* better right now but it's certainly doing fine still.

'Cloudbusting' also doesn't scream 'hit' either. I quite like it but it's too complex for the GP I reckon.

I don't really like 'Cloudbusting', it was much better as a dance tune as 'Everytime It Rains', it had a disco house style climax which was different to the original 1985 song between 1:12 - 1:42 on this version. I don't know why they got rid of that, it was the best part of it imo, now it is just a straight cover, it really didn't need to have all the lyrics of the original song in it!.

Never been this disappointed by a re-arranged release before :(

It was CLEARLY much better as this:

Just heard that new Katy Perry track for the first time, I think it's garbage. It might be a grower but that wasted zombie line is horrendous!

That was way different to the original, Something Good '08 was good too. 'Cloudbusting' just doesn't really add much to the original imo, 'Everytime It Rains' did though, why did they have to change it?

Agreed!

I expect Katy will stay stable at #2 and maybe climb to #1 on Sunday night.

 197. Just Us - Cloudbusting

Keep climbing please!

Not sure if Radio 1 will play this considering it sounds a lot different to Everytime It Rains, which was the version they played before (different climax, was more of a remix of the original, had less vocals and wasn't a straight cover like this one).

Pretty sure they'll still support it, the last version was literally just a rip from a live mix set so there were always going to be adjustments made to the song!

Katy Perry managed to grab a number 1 in Australia with Rise through fan base buying
Tbh even allowing for her possibly not having quite as dedicated a fanbase as similar artists, I am still a little surprised she's not getting to #1 on iTunes easily here when she did so with 'Rise'. It's not really important though, the song sounds like one that will be big in the long run.

Also she apparently has a banner on Spotify purchased until June or something like that, and it has been placed as the first song in many of the big playlists.

They are really pushing this to be a streaming giant.

It's just sad they took the best bit for me of the live rip out though (1:12 to 1:42 in the Tiesto radio play I posted). Maybe Kate Bush herself wanted it more as a cover than a remix and wanted her original verses in it, or they thought it would be more of a hit with more verses (with Kate Bush fans like Liam liking it more too because it keeps the original structure :D ). But with Radio 1 getting on board with the live rip version, I think they should have just released that (maybe with the covering vocalist singing Kate Bush's parts) as it was obviously well liked by Radio 1 in that form, and also was more distinctive from the original I think.

Same thing as with Sia - Move Your Body, also changed to an inferior single mix imo (although the Alan Walker remix was the most popular online iirc and that should have been released here imo)

Cloud 9 is a good tune, thought it might sample the Bryan Adams song before I played it :o . Production wise it is a bit like the style of Get Lucky, but better imo.

I'm surprised by this too. Both UK and US. I think part of the reason is Rise taking the 'Wow, new Katy for the first time in years' thunder a few months back, (and then that was received poorly) as that stormed to #1 in both countries.

Rise was an Apple exclusive though, so unless you had Apple Music you had to download from iTunes to hear it. It wasn't even on YouTube.
