Well it is teenagers that probably influence the chart the most those days, especially with streaming!

It's kind of always been the case though, teenagers were the principal market for singles. You didn't see much 30yo and over buying singles.

I'd have thought uni students are the biggest consumers of streaming, followed by those doing A levels. Just due to the amount of time is on their hands compared to everyone else! My last.fm chart is still filled with stuff I listened to at uni, at a massively disproportionate rate to what I now listen to!

so people 16-23 basically :D I tend to listen to a LOT of music, my Last.fm doesn't want to scrobble anything most of the time tho :(

You may not be using the most recommended app... although if you're trying to scrobble from a tablet or mobile phone I've always found scrobbling to be a bit fussy.

what do you use to scrobble? it's started working for the last 24 hours or so but unbeknownst to me it had been scrobbling intermittently for the last 3 months

EDIT - It only really scrobbled around 1,500 of the 10,000 or so tracks I've listened to since Christmas :,)

I think it also depends what your operating system is and what you're using to play music... I'm on Windows 10, using the 'last.fm Scrobbler' app in conjunction with iTunes/Apple Music.

 147. 3WW - alt-J

Interested to see how high this will go. It's not at all a chart friendly song, anywhere in the top 100 would be a great achievement for it really. Such a great comeback though, I think it is possibly their best song to date.

Shame streaming isn't better for this one, Ed or not.

Yay at Lorde not continuing to freefall. Hoping she can get back to the top 10 soon.

'Galway Girl' now the highest Ed track *.* (still behind 'Shape Of You' after its millions of versions are combined ik). Has to be the 3rd single.

alt-J still not top 100 D: I guess they're gonna be 100% an albums act now even though they had 3 top 100 hits from each of the first 2 albums. Hoping the album will be another top 5 for them at least.

I don't know why there's no more buzz about Alt J, amazing band and incredible comeback, much better than anything on album 2

One of the surprising things about "Galway Girl" for me is there are 9 writers on the Credits for a 2:50 track!

Was it just a case of everyone in the Studio at the time of Recording got a credit...

It's more likely that there's a sample they used (probably the fiddle) which means they have to additionally credit the writers of the song the sample came from.

Ah thanks, now noticed 5 of the Writers are in Irish Folk Music Group Beoga, nice little earner for them!

Poor little mix they really did choose wrong week I'm hoping they can get time to give it some promotion
