Number 11 in the first set of midweeks.

I know it'll drop a lot but it's pretty amazing they are #11 without a video, physical or performance of it yet! Considering their last comeback single 5 years ago reached #82 I'll take this 'only' making the Top 40!

It is doing well, all things considered. I wonder is they used physical CD like Take That would it have sold?
The video being filmed today means it won't be out for a while surely. Either way I can't see them being an act to benefit much from a video effect.

The video's out on the 7th April.

I'd imagine they'll use that to coincide with the first performances to push promo for the album release on the 21st.

They need to get thi onto a prominent playlist or radio station, why the hec not?
Video being filmed today with a new dance routine :kink:

It would be wonderful if the video can give it a boost.

Sacred of the Dark drops 7 places in the midweek update for today, now sits at number 18.

This had the potential to do better but the promo has been crap. Why appear on several TV shows and not even perform? To the casual viewer of Saturday Night Takeaway they'll just assume it's a nostalgic reunion rather than new material.

Then there's radio, I've heard it twice on radio, once was the premier on Radio 2 and the other was the UK Hot Top 40. Radio seems to be completely ignoring this. http://comparemyradio.com/tracks/Steps/Scared_Of_The_Dark

I'd imagine they're hoping for better album sales so will probably push it more then. However the single will be a lost cause by then no doubt. They should have been the music guests performing this on Saturday night takeaway and on this morning. Every little helps. They'll be making their money from the tour which is selling well.
I suspect no-one involved in the single would have ever thought it would get to #1 on iTunes so good promo for the single was just never planned and it was just too late to make alterations like them singing the single on SNT. I hope the video will gain attention what with a new dance routine being promised.

They're performing on This Morning closer to the album release I think. OA/OS releases are tricky for acts like Steps to handle effectively when also trying to manage a successful album release. They're very unlikely to get much airplay and so the peak is likely going to be in the first week. However, if they focus all the promotion for then, it leaves nothing for the album release which means that will be unsuccessful.

As Liam said, I'm sure no one expected it to go to #1 on iTunes, especially against Ed Sheeran but they probably should have booked at least one performance slot. Although, again I guess they couldn't when they didn't know the dance routine yet. They have been good on the promo front elsewhere though, helping to sell the tour which I guess is also the main focus at this point.

The single will go top 40 which is probably an outcome they will be happy with. I do understand they are putting the main promo into the album. Its good they are doing promo though as its a good reminder to people they are back which is selling the tour for them and hopefully the album. The fact the ultimate collection is back in the charts is showing signs they are gaining interest for the public and also that the single even got to number 1 on itunes is all very positive.

I'd usually agree but I think SOTD could get a boost from the video, them and their team have been amazing at social media - if they push the fact this is a new dance routine etc., it could generate interest and nostalgia and generate single/album sales.

The video will likely gain interest as people who remember Steps will want to see it just for the dance moves alone which was a huge part of Steps in their heyday.

A shame, but quite inevitable. Tbh though, this time last week I was doubting their ability to even make the Top 100, so I'll still be pleased if it ends up making the Top 40 (presumably it'll make it)! #1 on iTunes was just a bit of a tease. They've still done excellently!

Really looking forward to the video! :D

A listed by Radio 2 (Although I'd take B list at Capital over it! )

Added to the 'A List' playlist on Apple and 'The Pop List' on Spotify

The decline has slowed down, in the mid week chart they are number 30 today. Top 40 officially, looks very safe for them tomorrow.
