omg Ed Sheeran agrees the chart company needs to change their rules *__*

Of course he does now, what is done cant be undone. If they change the rule he will no doubt hold a lot of chart records forever then. Smart boy.

:/ No Steps at the future hit! What a Joke :kink:

Also I for one am all for Ed Domination this week SLAY US *.*

Honestly it's so refreshing that Ed agrees that a rule needs to be changed. He's a great bloke, even if his domination is annoying.

They cut him off but apparently he likes the Doctor Blind rule that DSQs tracks that have <10% contribution from paid-for sales.

Well good for him. It's not like anyone else is going to have this kind of domination anytime soon even if the chart rules don't change.

I just hope it's sooner rather than later so we don't get Ed Sheeran filled top 10s for the next month or so.

I hope OCC agree with record labels on _some_ changes within a week or two tbh. I hope the rules changes will be decent though, as for instance I prefer the current state of chart than "nominating"...

I thought this. At the end of the day our charts are one of our modern cultural heritages. Xfactor all but destroyed the Christmas number 1, this risks destroying the chart all together. Change is required.

Thank goodness Clean Bandit did get the Christmas number 1 at least!

For those that like their pop quizzes suggest they remember that it was The Chainsmokers and Coldplay that prevented a Top 10 Ed takeover, sure to be a question in years to come!

Whether you agree with what happened this week or not there is no doubt it was a momentous Chart that will be remembered for quite some time. Well until next week anyway.....

Well I found something to be sad about because all of the Sheeran has ended Mr. Brightside's longest consecutive run in the top 100, getting so close to Chasing Cars' record too D:

I think people are a bit misguided if they think this wont happen again. As streaming becomes bigger and bigger it will happen more and more. Stormzy (who isn't exactly A-list) had loads of songs in the top 40.

Adele could have easily done something similar but she (like Beyonce and Rihanna to lessor degrees) damaged their opening week streaming potential but as music moves to streaming only they wont be doing in the future.

A spokesperson for the OCC said, on Newsbeat, they "are reviewing the way the charts are compiled" (which they do all the time) and are "not rushing to any kneejerk reaction", so I wouldn't expect anything to be changed any time soon.
Not many artists were ever able to say they have had 15 or whatever number top 20 hits from one album. Surely Ed Sheeran is the first to do this.
Not keen on the Ed dominance but at least he pushed out a lot of the deadwood ie. "Say You Won't Let Go", "Closer", "Shout Out To My Ex" and "Sexual/Sensual"
it's a pity they cut Ed when he was about to elaborate on the double counting :)

Sensual dropped out of the top 40 last week actually.

Meanwhile in Ireland Galway Girl has gone straight in at number 1! And if you think 16 songs in the Top 19 positons is incredible he's done even better in Ireland.....

Nah, only the 9 songs in the top 10.
