July 11, 20178 yr If it achieves a 2nd week within the top 40 it would be wonderful, but, after such a slow climb I am delighted it went on to become Olly's 18th Top 40 hit.
July 11, 20178 yr Song would've been number 41 if not for ACR. They must be happy about those new chart rules.
July 20, 20177 yr Author Olly's said today in an interview with Metro that there won't be anymore singles from '24 HRS' and that he is taking a break after the tour finishes to travel: http://metro.co.uk/2017/07/20/olly-murs-to...acking-6793244/ I had a feeling this sort of announcement was coming, but it still makes me really sad :( I just hope he doesn't leave it long until album 6.
July 20, 20177 yr I think he needs a break tbh. He's released all his albums in fairly quick succession and that might be a factor to him not doing so well anymore.
July 20, 20177 yr He really deserves a break as he has been going non stop since he participated on X Factor. I would hope the break isn't too long as sometimes acts who take an extended break are forgotten about. Now, i believe, would be the the right time to release a Greatest Hits in Q4. He has more than enough hits to release a very stable collection that could do reasonably well in the charts for him and help kepe his name out there.
July 20, 20177 yr That kinda defeats the point of a break thoough. People aren't going to suddenly forgrt him if he takes a good few months out.
July 20, 20177 yr A break probably means calling it a day unless there's huge demand for a comeback tour. Pop is still very judgemental on age. I'm not surprised he's been releasing at such a breakneck pace either, strike while the iron's hot. He wasn't so young when he started out either.
July 20, 20177 yr He's hardly limping around on a walker and despite not doing as well as he once did, he is still selling fairly well.

When he stacked up all the tour dates in the last year I suspected he was giving it one last enormous push to maximise earnings. It's been quite a struggle for all his singles from his last album, he's had to do a huge amount of promoting, never off the TV and the price reductions have kicked in pretty much as soon as they came out. Radio's been very kind to him considering the poor charting which hasn't matched the AirPlay. So I'd suspect he'd have an even harder time returning to pop with new music at 34/35 years old. But I still suspect there's a greatest hits coming along very soon.

Take That were in their late 30s/early 40s when they came back and had three of their biggest selling albums and several number one singles. Olly still has huge appeal and a very loyal fanbase - the crowds at this current tour confirm that alone.

There's no denying people will turn up to see him, it's carefree catchy pop, but surely you didn't think he's got the appeal of Take That in their heyday?!

I never said that so don't put words in my mouth, they're two completely different acts. I was merely using Take That as an example of an older pop act having big success at an advanced stage of their career. As has been said at 33 he is hardly geriatric and if anything has more energy than some acts that are barely out of their teens.

No need to be so defensive about him, of course they're different acts. Take That have been huge twice, though obviously dying down a lot now. Their big return was helped by pure nostalgia and a recipe of anthemic tunes. The fact is that he is getting older, he's having to work much much harder to keep things going and he can't work at that pace forever. If he takes as much as a year off I'll be amazed.
July 20, 20177 yr Would we agree he's a household name? I don't see anything wrong with taking a break and then coming back with a Greatest Hits and going on the back of that to release new material similar to Kelly Clarkson (2012 GH, 2013 album and then early 2015 album). It would definitely give him a break which he needs and the chance for the people to get behind him with the songs they love.
July 20, 20177 yr Nothing to do with Unpredictable but this is the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life http://i.imgur.com/h4XPiT4.gif

He's just bitter that there's a successful reality solo male star that has actually managed to make a name for himself and become just as big (if not bigger) than Will Young. Him and other Will stans have been after Olly since he firat came on the scene. I agree with Sean tbh. I believe he is in a similar position to Kelly Clarkson in all honesty. A break would do him good. Come back with a greatest hits (to remind people of his songs etc..) and then release a studio album soon after.
July 20, 20177 yr Yeah I agree though, a break is hardly going to kill his career. People are here for him in general because he's quite down to earth, likeable, a good performer and works hard for his successes, I think a break is a good idea. He certainly deserves one tbh

Will's in a different league to him though. I don't agree with you about Olly Murs being like Kelly Clarkson (comparing him to Take That and Kelly Clarkson is extremely flattering and more than he deserves) - she is a proper singer and that is always appreciated by people who like music, but Olly Murs isn't, he's at the karaoke end of entertainment for me.
