+10 Huey Lewis And The News – The Power Of Love (well known 80s anthem, surprised it only made #11, really like this)

It reached 9 as a double-A-side with 'Do You Believe In Love' the following year. But yeah, Huey & The News weren't that successful a singles chart act in the UK considering how big they seemed at the time.

Or maybe people buying records in 1985 were just confused by too many songs called The Power Of Love.?

RESULTS:

Wildcard Round

10. Little Mix - Hair (60 Points)

So Little Mix get their second song through the group stage, however it is clearly not as popular as Love Me Like You as it just scrapes in at #10. This initially charted by itself not long after the album, however a mandatory appearance from Sean Paul got it soaring up the chart to the heights of... #11. Just like their last single.

9. Moby - We Are All Made of Stars (68 Points)

The second #9 in a row for Moby! (which is useful for me as I don't have to delete his name to re-type another) - the first single from his album '18', written after the 9/11 attacks, this song gained an MTV Video Music Award, and reached #11 in the UK - the only country that charted it higher was Poland at #10.

8. Pet Shop Boys - Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money) (70 Points)

I watched them perform this at Leeds Arena, they were AMAZING  This song was released twice, only becoming popular on its second release in 1986. The song is based on irony, with Tennant later stating that 'the people in it are not going to mke any money'. Anyway I'm delighted this is still in!

7. Jason Mraz - I'm Yours (72 Points)

I would say that this is one of the most well-known love songs of recent times, especially since it brings back memories from a time where I had almost zero exposure to popular music. This song was a worldwide hit, reaching #1 around Europe and #6 in America, but unfortunately did not make the Top 10 here! It's at #7 now though, just missing out on a Top 5 position.

6. Huey Lewis and the News - The Power of Love (77 Points)

And just missing out on a top-5 position (and eradicating any chance of a pre-2000 song in the Top 5) is one of the most popular 80s anthems, The Power of Love. This featured in the film Back to the Future, and eventually reached #9 as a double A-Side, but only managed to reach #11 officially!

Stay tuned ;)

Auto-Qualification

5. Sean Paul - Temperature (83 Points)

Just scraping in is the third single from Sean Paul's album The Trinity. Obviously there's something that makes it click with you guys, but it does seem pretty bland for me! Another song that reached #1 in America but missed the Top 10 entirely here.

4. Idina Menzel - Let It Go (90 Points)

I'm quite surprised this isn't #1 tbh! A song well-known from the Frozen film, sung by Queen Elsa when she randomly runs away and instantly creates an ice palace (yes, I was forced to watch the film). This was one of the most popular songs of the year, however, didn't even make the Top 10, despite reaching #5 in America!

3. P!nk - God is a DJ (94 Points)

Doesn't she look flattering in that thumb! A song from the soundtrack of 'Mean Girls' and from Pink's third album 'Try This', this is a song about living life to the fullest, and you guys clearly enjoy it!

2. Chase & Status ft. Mali - Let You Go (104 Points)

And beginning a dance Top-2 is Chase & Status' official lead single from their second album, No More Idols. The second most successful single by the duo to date, and contrary yo most of the songs I've mentioned previously, this didn't chart anywhere at all barring the UK, where it (obviously) reached #11 - but it's clearly a popular choice on this forum!

1. Disclosure ft. Sam Smith - Latch (128 Points)

And topping this group is Disclosure's 'Latch', showing that you're all truly mad Sam Smith stans :kink: The lead single from their debut album 'Settle', this just missed the Top 10!

Oh no at Latch at number 1, never liked it at the time, and still don't, much too chilled and sentimental for my tastes.
