August 26, 20177 yr 53 had an absolutely amazing top 5, I think I voted for all of them iirc! I would've rather Dance Our Tears Away (one of my all time favourite discoveries) or Pumpin' Blood had won, but Carli was still great.
August 26, 20177 yr Still regret giving 'Platinum Chains' to Rich, I said I wasn't going to send it cos I thought it would flop... it came 4th whilst I DNQed. That's a brilliant top 3 too, two dance bangers (especially love 'Look Up', glad that won) plus 'Out Of Yourself' (which I'd put above John de Sohn). 'Look Up' winning was a major step forward for dance becoming a true BJSC force at the top end, although we had stopped with the pop dominated top 10s a while back.
August 26, 20177 yr the memories of Trifoski's first 3 contests  Look Up <3333 a majestic banger! Northern Lights is also amazing, BJSC 51 had a really good Top 10 from what I remember
August 26, 20177 yr 53 was my first contest and I remember being *.* at the quality. I still deserved to win tho let's be real. Wallpaper was a bopT
August 26, 20177 yr Author 54. Skall - Supreme - Postiljonen Agnetha Faltskog,Imagine Dragons and Shola Ama were all amongst the finalists while my vote would have gone to Paradise Circus by Massive Attack. Postiljonen won by 12 points ahead of Epilogue I & II : Shadow Of The Sun by Taped Rai (Hendinia) and Colors by Rivaz (FSR Rontvia). This would sound good in the car on a sunny day. It's pleasant enough but a bit too bland to get a high score from me. Postiljonen are from Sweden and specialise in 'dream pop'. 7.9 out of 10. m25Nsa-fvms
August 26, 20177 yr Postiljonen was a FINE winner but I don't remember it nearly as well as the other similar winners of its time (i.e. the Aeroche ones). Would have much preferred to see the gorgeous 'Shadow Of The Sun' winning, but on the other hand this is Skall's only winner so wouldn't want to deny them that! This contest I discovered a new favourite BJSC discovery ever (Mr Little Jeans didn't hang onto that title for as long as I thought) with the absolutely chilling 'So Close' by Ólafur Arnalds feat. Arnór Dan  one I still listen to pretty often to this day, such a good chill song. My whole top 6 of this contest were pretty incredible - FKA twigs' 'How's That' had to settle for 10 points but that's another one I still go back to loads (still my favourite song by her), then my next high points were Kissy Sell Out's 'Gimme Sin', Sir Sly's 'Ghost', Massive Attack and Taped Rai. The latter two would probably jump up to 3rd and 4th if I was voting in this contest today and would have to rank among the strongest top 4s of a contest ever.
August 26, 20177 yr Ooh the production of 'Supreme' is absolutely lush! I have already ranked it as high as top 20 but I feel like it would easily climb up further with following listens, has that grower feel to it. Elsewhere, like you I think I would have given my top points to the absolutely sublime 'Paradise Circus' by Massive Attack as well because that's an all-time favourite  Back to the top 5 and Bray introduced me to the gorgeous 'So Close' thinking I would be a fan, he was so right *.* I would later go on to recycle featuring artist Arnór Dan in BJSC 95, also as a featured artist, for Hugar's 'Waves'. You can't go wrong with Icelandic music most of the time <3 I also know of the Nikki Williams, Amaranthe (mainly due to Iz playing it on plug x), London Grammar and iamamiwhoami songs and they're all good. 01. I'd have had Down On Life to win that contest, what a song <3 I love Alive, Cameron, Rumour and What You've Done To Me from that top 10 too, plus honorable mentoon to the iconic Georgia by Music For Sleeping Children *_* Uncover is defintely my favourite since I posted last in here, I think it was my 12 that ontest but I can't remember between that, Mia Martina - Heartbreaker and Tone Damli - Smash. Still one of my Zara faves <3 Look Up is enough of a bop but I don't think I voted for it massively, I *think* it did but it was one or two points. My 12 that contest was ZZ Ward - Put The Gun Down  Of the top 5 I'd definitely have Pumpin' Blood to win but icr if I even pointed that at the time oops/ Supreme is quite bland imo, never took it to it at all. It's not terrible but eh. Glowing by Nikki Williams should've stormed that but at least it had YBO revenge, it's one of my favourite BJSC entries ever *.*
August 26, 20177 yr Supreme is another fantastic winner <3 clearly takes a leaf or two from the Midnight City book but it's still highly effective
August 26, 20177 yr 'Supreme' was another good winner, though actually my least favourite of the top 3 but it was another great top 3. I gave my 12 to 'Epilogue I & II: Shadow Of The Sun', stunning song ( only, not the Spotify version that's only 2:26) - I just love the way it builds from piano ballad to dance banger.
August 27, 20177 yr Author 55. Caerfyrddia - Bring It Back - Marcel Woods featuring Vanbot A first win for Caerfyrddia as Marcel Woods won by 20 points with Chordashian's Cold Nights in 2nd place for Aeroche and Fall For You by Young Galaxy in 3rd place (Mdice). This is how I like my dance music. There are lots of big swirly flourishes on this one,it's all very energetic. It goes into my top 10. Marcel Woods is a Dutch DJ. He retired in 2014 to spend more time with his family after his young children complained about him always going on trips around the world. 9.45 out of 10. 5rbp_Q_zYeA
August 27, 20177 yr 'Bring It Back' was another pretty good winner, I remember being a bit sad that 'So Close' was only Ghosty's biggest hit for all of one month  but was still good for him to sneak in a win shortly before he disappeared from the site. In contrast to the last contest, there are very few enduring favourites from this one for me, I gave my 12 to a song I knew before the contest (Boards Of Canada's 'Reach For The Dead') and I've not listened to it for quite a while. Chordashian is probably the one that's stuck with me the most (my 8 pointer at the time). Even my own entry is one I don't care for particularly much any more.
August 27, 20177 yr Still think my best time in BJSC results was that time in 54 when Amaranthine, my favourite ever entry and not a usual BJSC hit besides, was winning halfway. Shame it had to go down to a comparatively weak winner (and 4 other songs too), I love Skall's 2nd placers but their winner is actually a bit underwhelming. 53 was a really strong contest and a great winner, Look Up is so infectious. And Bring It Back has a great narrative behind it, especially with So Close being so close the month before, Caerfyrddia have one of the best complete narratives of a country in their final few entries.
August 28, 20177 yr Author 56. Trifoski - So High - Ghost Loft A close final with just 4 points separating the top 3 and the next 5 countries not far behind either. Ghost Loft finished 2 points ahead of Korallreven representing N DNTN with Sa Sa Samoa while Run On Love by Lucas Nord featuring Tove Lo was 3rd for Hendinia. So High is not the sort of song I would expect to win the contest. It's very laid back and chilled out. A year later.it was used as the backing track for Wiz Khalifa's song of the same name. 7.6 out of 10. uy8MfFvFEEY
August 28, 20177 yr 'So High' is definitely one of the most shocking winners ever - Seven himself actually said from the start that it would win IIRC, in stark contrast to him usually predicting himself to DNQ :P but unsure how serious he was with that prediction. Lovely song though. Another one that got low points from me (most of the winners of this era did). There are three incredible entries that have stuck with me from this contest, my favourite now is Team Rockit's 'Aura' which I somehow only gave 8 at the time, such a hypnotising track  however still a ton of love for my top 2 at the time, my 12 went to Thomas Azier's 'Ghostcity' which as I posted in the BJSC 98 thread yesterday when we thought Kylienips had gone astray os my favourite Kylienips entry, and my 10 went to 'Sa Sa Samoa', it was incredible to see that coming so close to winning as well. (It would have lost the tiebreak if I had given it my 12 instead so I don't have to feel too guilty about that). Also, here's another convenient excuse to bring up the most iconic and impactful DNQ of all time, my entry to this contest... d5BdyIGtYcg :D
August 28, 20177 yr By the way, a heads-up for your next post, the BJSC 57 winner would be hard for you to find online as it got removed by the artist but it has been re-uploaded here.
August 28, 20177 yr Author Quite extraordinary. I'm sure I would have given it a few points if I had been here. And thanks for the link for tomorrow.
August 28, 20177 yr So High's win was pretty much the greatest moment in history (you'd have had to be there to fully appreciate it), in part thanks to some expertly crafted presenting from Ghosty <3 a stunning track, it'd be cool if we could get another winner like that someday Seven himself actually said from the start that it would win IIRC, in stark contrast to him usually predicting himself to DNQ :P but unsure how serious he was with that prediction Not even really sure why i said that  never thought i'd *actually* win. Being a six-month old nation just coming off 3 DNQs how high would our confidence really be? :kink: (naturally, i ~predicted~ Given The Chance's victory also)
August 28, 20177 yr Also forgot to mention that Ghost Loft's win was so momentous that it attracted the attention of former holder of most viewed YouTube video ever, Wiz Khalifa *_* uvLSj4gRq-Q Quite extraordinary. I'm sure I would have given it a few points if I had been here. :D I mainly sent it because of the bizarre video but I have grown to really enjoy the actual song as well.
